There were no stars anymore. Replacing them were fragments of light so bright and orange that they hurt. They burned. Unlike the stars, this light wasn't kind. It was mean and hungry and powerful light intent on gobbling up everything in its path. And it did.
At first, only a few trees were infected. But as more and more were slaughtered, the army grew. Then they started attacking the people. Skin melted, hair burnt and eyes watered. It didn't smell good. Some fore smelt nice, like barbecues and bonfires. This was toxic gas in a room with no windows. This was choking.
Voices overlapped hazily.
