Work Text:
“Ignis,” Noctis whined, “Come back to bed.”
Ignis was across the room looking out the windowed double doors to the balcony as the rising sun glimmered on the restoration of Insomnia. A few years of work had done wonders to bring Insomnia back to its former glory. But still, Ignis found himself waking early every morning to watch the sun crest over the horizon, as though he was afraid that one day it would just stop again. Noctis dragged himself out of bed, wrapped a blanket around himself and padded over to Ignis. Pulling Ignis close, Noctis pressed his face to the back of Ignis’s neck. “Come back to bed,” he repeated softly.
“In a moment,” Ignis answered him, leaning back into his embrace.
“The sun’s not going to disappear just because you look away.”
Ignis tensed at the suggestion and Noctis trailed his fingers down his arm to take his hand, blanket slipping from his shoulders as moved onto his tiptoes to press a kiss to Ignis’s neck; his jaw; nip his earlobe. He smirked at the shudder that earned him. His fingers traced Ignis’s, each feather light touch being memorized into a map. Noctis already knew every line, every curve, by heart but he could never get enough, especially when his fingers touched the ring on Ignis’s left hand. Ignis had begun to relax more, so Noctis alternated between massaging those deft fingers and gently scraping his nails across the skin to make Ignis shiver. When the sun had completely broken over the horizon, Noctis slotted their fingers together. Holding his lover’s hand, he pressed a kiss to his knuckles before he tugged, pulling him away from the window.
“Come back to bed.” Noctis asked again. This time Ignis doesn’t resist and lets himself be pulled back to fall onto the mattress. Noctis pulled him close, curled around his body, and snuggled his face into the crook of his neck. Cuddled together, Ignis realized that Noctis was right. The sun was warm but the bed was warmer.
