Summary:

Ignis and Prompto get snowed in at their cabin in Tenebrae.

For Hug Ignis Week 2021.

Notes:

For Day 6 of Hug Ignis Week 2021.

Prompts: Snow Day | Sweet Surprise

These are super short, but I'm honestly just proud to be keeping up with them!

Next time I do something like this, I might just put them all in a single chaptered fic, but I needed to bulk up my account a little bit.

Work Text:

The mountains of Tenebrae were covered in a thick blanket of snow. Pristine white, glittering like the facets of a billion tiny diamonds as the light of the early morning hit it just right. Ignis took it all in with quiet contemplation. Or rather, with as much quiet as Prompto’s rapidly clicking camera shutter would allow him. Sometimes Ignis no longer noticed the sound, but this morning it was giving him a headache. The irritation was not Prompto’s fault though. Ignis was annoyed at the snow. It had fallen over night, leading to this morning’s discovery, and though beautiful, it denoted a change to Ignis’s carefully laid plans that he was not happy about.

Finished with his photography for the time being, Prompto turned on the television to check the news. Ignis was interested as well, but his lips pressed into a tight line at what he learned from it. All of the roads would be closed until at least the evening as teams worked to clear out the sudden snowfall. Ignis was just wondering what that would mean for his meetings for the day, when his phone buzzed. As though reading his mind, it was an email stating that all of the meetings had been postponed. That everyone who was to attend should enjoy the snow day and keep safe. Ignis sighed loudly.

“Don’t like the snow, Iggy?” Prompto was kneeling on the couch, chin resting on the back of it to look at Ignis.

“My meetings have been cancelled.” Ignis replied, lifting his coffee mug to his lips only to find it cold and empty.

Prompto’s eyes lit up, “Don’t sound so glum! We get a snow day! We could build snowmen, and have hot chocolate. Or, well we don’t have any snowmobiles but I wonder if we could get some… Or-” He stopped, catching Ignis’s still soured expression at the cancellation. Prompto looked away, “Or not.”

He turned away, sinking onto the couch so that the top curl of his hair was the only thing barely visible to Ignis. A sharp pain sparked through Ignis’s heart. He had invited Prompto on this business trip so that they could enjoy this cabin in the Tenebraen mountains together. And here he was, with actual free time to spend with him, making Prompto feel bad for getting excited. Ignis sighed to himself and walked around to the other side of the couch where Prompto had hunched up like he did when he felt like he’d upset someone. Ignis reached out and put a gentle hand on Prompto’s knee.

“Darling,” he said softly, waiting for Prompto to glance at him before continuing. “Give me a few moments to sort out this cancellation and then we’ll go and do something together. How does that sound?” Prompto’s eyes held a sense of fearful hope that Ignis was becoming familiar with. Ignis cupped Prompto’s cheek gently, and Prompto turned his face into it, pressed a kiss to Ignis’s palm. “I promise,” Ignis assured him.

Half an hour later, Ignis and Prompto were bundled up and nearly knee-deep in snow. Prompto was delighting in the fact that it was perfect packing snow and had begun to build a snowman nearly immediately. Ignis was humoring him by working on a snowball of his own to add to Prompto’s, but he kept checking the horizon as though he was waiting for something. Prompto looked like he was about to comment on it, when the sound of a revving engine echoed out through the quiet air. Prompto’s eyes widened in recognition, “You didn’t!” Ignis merely smiled and pointed as a snowmobile crested over the hill towing an empty one. The driver dropped it off and then sped off with a wave.

“I could only get one-” Ignis’s explanation was abruptly cut off as Prompto crashed into him, pulling him into a crushing hug. Ignis softened and hugged him back just as tightly.

Later, pressed up against Prompto’s back and watching the pure joy on his face as they sped over mounds of snow, Ignis thought that there wasn’t a single thing in this world that he wouldn’t do for his sunshine.
