    Hermione Granger discovered she was a witch at the age of eleven - the same day she decided she was destined for more. For greatness. A life not stained by the sister she never wished she had.

    Struggling to navigate a world filled with her shredded expectations, Hermione faced obstacles that challenged more than her skills as a witch. They challenged her character for fairness and morality. And Hermione feared she made a series of bad decisions that could potentially hand the Dark Side their victory.

    Hermione thought she was supposed to be the protagonist of her own story, but her attitude turned the odds against her. Her sister became her most hated rival, the toughest of obstacles.

    And her sister was, too, the riddled central piece of the chess game that was the Second Wizard War.

    Necessary to the puppet masters gambling lives on both sides. And needed by the single player whose loyalty would define the winner.

    Hermione resented her for it.

    If only she knew at the time that the price of her resentment would become unaffordable as time passed and her sister grew.

    As he lay dying in the Shrieking Shack, Snape goes back in time.

     

    Accidentally.

     

    OR

    Minutes passed and Severus waited for the hallucination to end. He was certain he was dead. Perhaps he had fallen into coma? He debated some realistic possibilities within his mind.

    No matter, real or not, he never liked the infirmary. He got up, and decided to take a walk. Perhaps, he thought, if he walked around, something would end this nightmare.

    Of course, if he had heard what the mediwitch had said under her breath, ("Honestly, Potter and his ilk, hanging you by your underwear like that...")

    Severus would have known that this was no dream nor hallucination.

    Summary

    Harry Potter doesn't catch the Knight Bus after running away from blowing up Aunt Marge before the start of third year. Snape finds him hiding out and has some questions about Harry's behavior. Upon discovering Harry is being badly abused by the Dursleys, he sets out to rescue the boy. He never planned on adopting him but what's a potions master to do when an abused frightened boy falls in his lap and his parent's wills say Snape should take him? Well, treat him like his own son of course. This sets in motion a series of events uncovering Dumbledore being manipulative and horrible, Harry and Draco becoming best friends, Ron disowning Harry, and Sirius's name being cleared. Oh, and Lord Voldemort coming back into the picture and wanting a new chance at life. Harry and Severus grow closer together as Severus proves he is worthy of Harry's trust, but how will that change when the Dark Lord comes back into his life? And how will they circumvent the scheming of the Headmaster?

    What happens when Harry and Severus build their own little family, largely of strays, and band together to take down the Headmaster? How do they go about building a new, healthy life?
