Mercy Goldenheart hadn't wanted to join the quest to destroy the One Ring, but somebody needs to protect Frodo and Bilbo is in no position to do so. They wander in Khâzad-dûm, Gandalf leading them through the huge kingdom. They reach a crossroads and while Gandalf tries to remember the way, Gimli and the Hobbits try to retell the quest to retake Erebor to the Men. Mercy gets roped into it and thinks of her husband.
Later in Lothlórien, after Gandalf has fallen, Gimli peers into the Lady Galadriel's mirror and sees a king long dead, whose voice he hears on the wind. He immediately tells Mercy who is less than pleased and then remembers who else is dead.

The usual suspects in a different setting but still having family dynamics from hell and so many grievances. Also, everybody is even younger and more confused than the last time. It is still Arda in spirit and custom but geographically it is more like Earthsea.
Like I feared, this turned out to be a somewhat epic endeavor, with a bunch of children craving attention, mysteries, agricultural problems, battles of different kinds, dreams, omens and portents, Dwarrow, fertility rituals, good and evil Valar and me being unexpectedly lenient towards Kings Thingol and Ingwë. And of course there are dragons, too.
There probably should be more sex, and less meetings, but there is a war to be waged and people to be saved, so busy parents have to take what they can get.
So, Prince Fëanáro is returning to the Isle of Tirion from a bout of island hopping....

The story begins at the same point as the original, but with a new protagonist. Besides having different values and cultural perspective, the new MC has read the original story (mainly the manga) and knows some of the expected events. Some of the original characters are encountered along the way while others are not. Characters beyond the progress of the manga may be encountered but the MC won't necessarily know them.
The privileged language of this world is mapped to the native language of the new MC. As a result, the names of places, characters, chants and monsters may differ from the original and translations.
This work does not include detailed descriptions of "night activities" such as those in the manga. There is some violence but it isn't cruel or overly detailed. The original work isn't particularly dark but it's a world of legal slavery, harems, feudalism and sexism. None of these topics are glorified here but they are present.
