"The...who?" Ren asked, confused. He's never heard that word before, something so strangely familiar yet unsettlingly otherworldly, like its not meant for...ears like his.
"She-She's our Goddess, in a sense. Well, mine." Martyn laughed. "Just-do me this one favour, yeah? It's not much. I'm just...scared we won't be able to...see each other again."
Ren watched him weave another flower into his little crown. "Y...yeah. I can do that. I can do that for you."
Martyn smiled, and placed the flower crown on Ren's head. "Thank you, m'lord."

Look, I had this idea of writing a short story somewhere in the stone age (ambiguous whether paleolithic or neolithic) and so I did.
But I am still a massive fantasy nerd so of course it's still elves and orcs in my stone age fantasy. Take it or leave it.So a tribe of elves gets displaced (I guess there is a weird but specific pattern in my writing) and flees north into the desert.
Originally I wanted to write a bit of a romance subplot into this, but with a short story there isn't really space for any subplot; either it's plot or it isn't there. But I guess you can read a future relationship into those interactions, if you want. (if they ever manage to overcome their language barrier)- Language:

“The Banite will bring you here.” Bhaal’s voice pierces her head. Deidre turns, Enver now standing beside her. A shudder passes through the beast beneath their feet, as a similar current sends a shiver down Deirdre’s spine. Now looking around, Deirdre can see the beast is encircled in a black, thorny ring. A diadem pulsing with red energy hovers behind them, and she can sense it anticipating her every thought.
