In which, Ryan and Min get a cat.

Summary:

Ryan and Min find a new furry friend while on the road.

Pure fluff, spreading the catboy Ryan agenda. I wrote this really late and barely edited it but if I don't post it now I'll forget

Work Text:

Min never thought life on the road would be easy, but he didn’t realize how often things would go wrong.

Like right now, when he was trying to change a tire, which was something he had only done once before in his life. His dad didn’t let him go off with Ryan without knowing at least the basics of car care. A couple days before the pair left, Min’s father showed him how to change a tire as well as a couple other car tricks, which didn't make it at all easy though.

“Sooo… How do you think our upcoming show is gonna go?”

Ryan, Min’s boyfriend, despite having been on the road for almost a year on his own, apparently had no idea how to do anything with car’s and was just pretty decent at “winging it” (as he was with most things). Ryan had taken to pacing around the car and drumming on his legs while Min worked.

“I saw something in the woods, do you think it’s a raccoon?” Ryan continued absentmindedly trying to start up conversation. “Nah, looks too small to be a raccoon… too big to be a squirrel…” Ryan trailed off and took a couple steps towards whatever it was.

“Ry, don’t wander off!” For as long as Min had known Ryan (Aka, their whole lives) he’d known Ryan tended to wander off when things were low energy. It was just something you had to get used to and prepare for when traveling with him.

“Don’t worry Min, I’m just gonna see what it is” Ryan’s footsteps were quick as he dashed after whatever small animal had caught his attention. Min sighed and got up, preparing to chase after his impulsive partner.

“Ryan I don’t think that running into some woods in the middle of nowhere was one of your best ideas!” Min called after his boyfriend.

“Well I, personally, think it was a great idea” Ryan called back, coming slightly left of where Min had been aiming.

When Min caught up to his Boyfriend, what he didn’t expect to see was a cat in his arms. The cat was silver, with darker grey stripes across their whole body. Ryan was holding the cat by their upper body so the lower half of the cat hung down freely. The cat seemed to be squirming a little, but was oddly apathetic about their escape.

It took one look at Ryan’s face to see what he was thinking.

“Babe, we can’t get a cat”

“Aw come on Min, please?” Ryan knew how effective his puppy dog eyes were and was not afraid to use them to his advantage.

“Ryan, where are we even going to keep the cat? We live out of a van most of the year, that isn’t exactly the ideal environment for a pet”

“I don’t think it would be that hard to fit a food and water bowl, a cat bed and a litter box. We could even just keep the food dish and some bedding in a cat carrier to keep everything contained!” Ryan was clearly not gonna let this go without a fight.

“Sweetie, it’s just not a smart idea-” Min started

“But, Babe, I already named her and everything! I am so emotionally attached you can’t take her away from me now!” The pull of Ryan’s puppy eyes was strong, almost too strong for Min to fight.

“Really, you named her? Well what is her name?” Min needed to call his bluff to get any traction in this battle of wills.

Ryan froze for a moment, just long enough for Min to know he was making one up on the spot, but the smirk across his face showed he knew he had won.

“Well she’s silver, so I thought perhaps Kez would be fitting?”

Yeah Min had lost this time.

“... If we figure out we aren’t a good home for her, we’ll take her to a shelter”

Ryan bounced on his feet a couple times in celebration, with the most adorable grin. He dashed over to Min and kissed him on the cheek

“Thank you so, so, so much babe! We’ll be great cat parents. I swear this is gonna be so awesome!”

Min wasn’t sure if he was gonna regret this, but watching Ryan pet “cat Kez” that already wanted to sleep in his lap (seriously, that boy had to speak cat or something-) no matter what, would make any additional stress worth it.
