"I want to be with you." The statement makes Lauren turn her head, "We're already dating, dork. What are you talking about?" He stops his tending to the flowerbed outside the apartment and turns to look at his girlfriend, "I mean forever. I want to be with you forever." She too turns around to face Kieran and her lips part slightly in surprise, it certainly wasn't the answer she was expecting. “You don’t have to say anything- I know this is out of the blue I just… I wanted to tell you.” He looks away bashfully, slightly embarrassed by his impulsive comment. “No. No I- I’m just surprised is all. I mean forever is a long time.” Lauren is more flustered than she’d like to admit but she can’t help the smile that grows on her face at the idea of forever . “I know and honestly you don’t have to give me an answer-” She cuts him off with a soft, barely audible chuckle, “I wouldn’t mind.” Now it’s Kieran’s turn to be surprised, it certainly wasn’t the answer he was expecting. “Forever is a long time, but I wouldn’t mind spending it by your side.” His raven hair blows slightly in the wind as he mumbles, “Re- Really…?” Lauren steps over and presses a soft kiss to his frosty cheek, now dusted with a slight flush, “Really. I know you think I’m the one who saved you from yourself, but honestly, you saved me too. You helped me realize it’s okay to let go of my guilt and move on, that I’m not at fault for what happened to him. I’d probably still be wasting away my life over a decade-old tragedy if it weren’t for you. So… forever doesn’t sound too bad, partner.” Her words cause Kieran to grin and the next thing she knows she’s tangled up in his arms as he lifts her up to place light kisses all over her face. “Kieran! Put me down!” She shrieks playfully and throws half-hearted kicks at his legs causing them both to erupt into laughter. Kieran lovingly brings his lips to Lauren’s own and mutters into the kiss, “Forever it is, detective.”
