Chapter 1: Beware the Beast from Below

Chapter Text

Velma couldn't believe her ears, "You are going where?!"

Madelyn smiled as she repeated herself, "The Whirlen Merlin Magic Academy."

Angie explained, "Your sister has a full scholarship to this college for magicians." She showed her oldest daughter a pamphlet. Velma took a look at it and saw a male figure posing for a magician's trick. Angie added, "She'll be starting next fall."

Velma almost did a double take and questioned, "And you are okay with this...?" She shook her head in disbelief as she mumbled to herself, "Of course you are okay with this..." She turned to Madelyn, "And besides, I thought you were going to join the circus?"

Madelyn made a face and pointed out, "Okay so I've been doing some soul searching. But you... you were born with a mystery book in your hand. Me...I'm different. Always have been. You...are special. I can just feel it."

Velma didn't say anything to that as she asked, "Well, have you told Shaggy that you are leaving next fall?"

Madelyn blushed hard upon hearing Shaggy's name and replied a bit sourly, "Why would I tell your boyfriend anything, Velm?"

Velma sharply pointed out, "Just because he's my boyfriend doesn't mean you can stop being his friend."

Madelyn started to say, "Oh you are just wanting him all to yourself..."

"Girls!" Their father, Dale, shouted. They both looked at him as he added, "That's enough. Now come to the kitchen and let's have some lunch."

Velma raised her hands up and replied quickly, "Can't meeting the gang. See you later. Love you bye!"

Without another word, Velma was out the door. Madelyn turned to her mom sadly.

She asked, "How come Shaggy wanted to date her and not me..?"

Angie sighed sadly. Ever since Velma had announced to them that her and Shaggy were dating, it had really tore into Madelyn's self confidence. She knew both of her girls liked the Rogers boy but she knew that one of them would start dating him sooner or later. Madelyn had been jealous of Velma since then. So Angie was hoping that the long distance would keep them from killing each other. Next fall wouldn't come fast enough for her or her husband.

...

Later that week, Velma had come home very happy. She had turned to Madelyn, whom was the only home yet again. Their parents were always working at the Spook Museum and at the Broken Spine.

Velma gushed, "Maddie! You will not believe what happened today!"

Madelyn raised an eyebrow, "What happened?"

She told her younger sister, "We might have an actual to goodness monster here in Crystal Cove!"

Madelyn blinked in confusion before rolling her eyes. "You are starting to sound like Mayor Jones, Velm." Velma placed her hands on her hips. Madelyn only shrugged as she pointed out, "Just saying."

Velma stated, "I am no where near him thankfully... " She took a breath and offered, "Look, I know you are leaving next fall but you wanna come with me to meet the gang? Shaggy and Scooby got jobs at Fruitmeir's as female waitresses."

Madelyn's face turned red as she stammered, "H - how...? W - why when you and Daphne are girls?"

Velma shrugged, "Because we refused."

Madelyn couldn't help a small smile. How could she refuse?

...

When they got to Fruitmeir's, Madelyn couldn't help but laugh in Shaggy's face.

Shaggy blushed out of embarrassment, "I guess I don't look like very convincing."

Madelyn teased, "You don't but Scooby does."

Scooby shot her a look, "Gee rhanks..."

Madelyn laughed more and decided to help look around. When Daphne found the Crystal Cove Caves and that cave they were in lead to the bank, Fred knew that they had to make a trap.

...

Madelyn struggled against the slime, trying to get herself free. The trap to catch the Slime Mutant had malfunctioned and captured everyone minus Daphne. Daphne started to run away from the cage as Scooby started to eat his bonds. Madelyn felt like she was going to barf.

She groaned, "Ooh I'm gonna be sick..."

Shaggy told her, "It's alright Madys, it's like Fruitmeir's!"

Fred added, "Shaggy's right so start eating!"

Madeyln watched in horror as she saw her friends eating their bindings.

Velma saw how green her younger sister was and reassured, "It'll be alright Maddie."

Madelyn turned to Velma, hesitant. Velma nodded smiling a tad bit. Madelyn smiled a tad as she took a bite of it. While she didn't like Fruitmeir's, it tasted just like the stuff. She felt herself slightly vomiting. But she eventually got herself free.

Fred told the gang, "C'mon gang! We got to save Daphne!"

...

After closing the case, the gang went up to the radio station K-Ghoul. Angel Dynamite, the radio show's DJ was waiting for them. She was a bit surprised to see Velma's younger sister with them.

She remarked, "Surprised to see you, baby."

Madelyn replied, "Yeah well... Velm asked me to come."

Angel did a double take as she teased, "You feeling alright Velma? Not like you to ask Madi along."

Velma stammered, "W - well I wanted to." She turned to Madelyn and admitted quietly, "I'm really gonna miss you when you leave..."

Madelyn softly admitted, "I'm gonna miss you too..."

With that, the two sisters had an embrace. The gang and Angel all smiled at the sight.

Angel told them, "Well come on in babies. I got enough music for all night."

The kids went into the radio station. They started to play tunes, having a good time. Madelyn even danced with Shaggy a few times, although she was getting a few glances from Velma. Just when she was about to ask him for another dance, the phone rang.

He put the phone on speaker and said, "Like K-Ghoul 101, what's your request daddy-o?"

A strange male voice stated, "You are all doomed."

Shaggy gulped, "Like like um... who is this?"

The man told them, "You may call me Mr. E. You shouldn't have brought that locket out of the caves. You have no idea what you have uncovered."

Daphne questioned, "Uncover? Uncovered what?"

Mr. E answered, "The truth behind Crystal Cove. The mystery has just begun."

Scooby whimpered, "Scooby Dooby Doo..."

...

Wishmaker1028: I was a tad bit upset that the writer's never addressed Madelyn again in the Scooby Doo lore. So I decided to put her in one of my favorite series of Scooby Doo - Mystery Incorporated. Now Madelyn isn't gonna help in every mystery since I got an idea that I want to run with her. Let me know if we should continue! So please read and review! And always think outside of the box!

Chapter 2: The Creeping Creatures

Chapter Text

It was a typical night at the Dinkley home. Madelyn was practicing her latest trick. Angie was getting race night while Dale was watching TV. Velma was out, with the gang yet again. Madelyn took a card out of the deck, seeing that it was the three of spades. Just when she was going to start her trick, the phone rang. Madelyn picked up the phone.

She answered it, "Hello, Dinkley residence."

Velma stated, "Maddie, it's me."

Madelyn perked up and asked, "Velm... what is it? Are you okay?"

Velma reassured, "I'm fine but the van broke down in Gatorsburg."

Madelyn cringed, "This is the one time I wished I had my license... Mom won't come, you know? It's race night..."

Velma groaned, "Yeah I know... But it was worth a shot. Guess we'll have to stay the night."

Madelyn pointed out, "That doesn't sound too bad. At least you don't have to hear Mom screaming bloody murder at the track tonight."

Angie passed on by and told her youngest, "I heard that young lady!"

Madelyn cringed as she smiled awkwardly. She told her older sister, "I'll see you tomorrow morning and we'll talk more then."

Velma replied, "Sounds great Maddie. See you then."

With that, Velma hung up. Madelyn put down the phone sadly when she realized something. Velma was going to spend the night...with Shaggy. Something about that thought made her stomach churn in jealousy. While they were trying to get along before the next fall semester, Madelyn had to admit that she was crazy jealous of her sister. She turned to her phone and decided to text one of her friends, Hot Dog Water.

Madelyn: Velm is spending the night in Gatorsburg.

HDW: Really? Why?

Madelyn: Apparently the van broken down. Velma didn't say how.

HDW: Well I hope, for your sake, that Velma will be alright.

Madelyn: Thanks Marcie.

HDW: ...have you ever told Velma that you are friends with me?

Madelyn: Honestly? No, the subject never came up. Ever since she started to date Shaggy... -_-

HDW: I know that you're jealous. Everyone in Crystal Cove knows that you are jealous. Except Shaggy of course.

Madelyn: He might be oblivious but he is cute.

HDW: I wouldn't know. I'll admit, I don't even know if I'm interested in men.

Madelyn: Fair enough, I won't judge.

HDW: Thanks M.

...

"Madelyn!" Velma shouted, early that morning.

Madelyn groaned, out of annoyance as she woke up. She looked and saw Velma hovering over her. "Velm?"

"Shaggy saved my life!"

Madelyn blinked, not once but twice. Velma had said that a bit fast for her taste. But she got the jest of it. "Shaggy saved you..?"

Velma nodded and then she told Madelyn what had happened that night. Madelyn listened, with interest and jealously in her heart.

"And then Scooby said that the sign at the Drowsy Gator said 'The Dog Dies'."

That got her attention. "Wait...it did? And you didn't investigate that?!"

Velma was a bit taken back by that. She defended, "Cause Scooby was the only one that saw it."

Madelyn scoffed, "So? That shouldn't have stopped you. What if something happened to Scooby? Like he was taken to the Crystal Cove Animal Asylum for the Criminally Insane?!"

Velma rolled her eyes as she walked away from her sister. Madelyn couldn't believe that her sister was so narrowminded. She stormed out of the house and immediately texted Hot Dog Water.

Madelyn: Sometimes I wish I was an only child.

HDW: What happened?

Madelyn: Long story. Think we can meet at the library?

HDW: Sure, I'll see you there in fifteen.

...

When Madelyn got to the library, she was greeted by the librarian.

He smiled upon seeing her and remarked, "Ah, Madelyn. It's so good to see again."

Madelyn replied, "Same to you." She looked around and asked, "Is Hot Dog Water here yet?"

Before he could respond, she sniffed the air as she spun around. There, behind her, was Hot Dog Water.

"Hey M." Marcie greeted.

"Hey Marcie." Madelyn replied.

The two of them shared a hug, as Madelyn pulled away from Marcie. The two of them met when HDW went to the Broken Spine for a cup of coffee to help her study. Marcie was surprised that Madelyn was Velma's younger sister. The two, to her, were nothing alike. The two of them found a table to sit at and read for a bit. Madelyn had told Marcie everything. Marcie shook her head.

She muttered, "I can't believe it. Velma wouldn't do anything?"

Madelyn stated, "I know she said that Scooby was the only one to see it but I'm very fond of Scooby. I don't want him to end up in the Asylum."

Marcie smiled softly, "Yeah that makes sense." She paused and asked, "So why did you want to come here in the first place? The usual avoiding Velma?"

Madelyn nodded. While she knew that wouldn't solve her problems, it was a temporary fix. So she picked up a magic book and started to read. Marcie did the same, reading a chemistry book.

...

The next day, Madelyn woke up and rubbed her eyes. She yawned and put on her glasses. She checked her phone, seeing a message from Marcie. She clicked on it.

Marcie: I got bad news. My Dad's amusement park, Creepy Spooky Terror Land is starting to lose money. We might have to close in a few weeks.

Madelyn frowned. That was bad news. Just when she was about to click on it to respond, her phone started to ring. The caller id read: Velma.

She answered it coldly, "Velma."

Velma replied, "Wow, you really are still mad at me."

"For a good reason. You know I love Scooby." Madelyn pointed out sharply.

Velma told her, "Well you will love this. We are helping Mayor Jones with his re-election campaign."

Madelyn responded, "You're right, I do love it."

"Not helping." Velma said, flatly.

...

Wishmaker1028: Well there we have it! Chapter 2 is finally done! I finally got the inspiration to write this one. Sorry for the delay. Please read and review! And always think outside of the box!
