Nico was eating at the Hufflepuff table while Hazel and Frank sat across from him. It was a silent morning until a particular blonde Slytherin sat beside him. Hazel gave Nico a knowing smile, but Nico just huffed in reply.
He then faced the newcomer with a glare, “You’re not supposed to be here, Solace.”
Will shrugged, “But I like hanging out with you.” he then winked at Nico.
Nico rolled his eyes, “Ugh, you’re insufferable.”
Will ate a bite of his food then sighed, “Besides, I could use a break from my fellow Slytherins. They’re quite scary at times.”
Frank chuckled from across the table, “Seriously Will, are you sure the sorting hat didn’t mistake on where it placed you? You really don’t belong in your house.”
Will hummed, “I wonder that everyday, alas, there’s nothing I can do about it.”
Nico then shrugged, “Well, we have more aspects in our personalities than we know, which gives the sorting hat options. For example, Annabeth is really smart and could have belonged to Ravenclaw but she always had hubris in her, and she’s a pretty great leader, thus landing her in Slytherin.”
Will nodded in understanding then nudged Nico playfully, “That’s a pretty good analysis, makes me wonder why you're not in Ravenclaw.”
Nico groaned, “If I were then you wouldn’t get to sit with me since the Ravenclaw house always follows the rules, and aren’t as nice as the Hufflepuffs here.”
Will gasped, “We wouldn’t want that, now don’t we-”
Nico cut him off, “ You wouldn’t want that.”
Will took Nico by surprise by hugging him tightly before saying, “And I’m just glad that you get to be my cute little Hufflepuff best friend.”
Nico was struggling to get away from Will’s grip, “Not cute. Let go. Too much physical touch. I will kill you, Solace!”
Will let go then chuckled, “No you won’t.”
Nico straightened himself then rolled his eyes, “Whatever, Solace.”
Hazel laughed sweetly from across the table, “You two are so adorable, you guys would make a cute couple.” Hazel winked at Nico which made him blush. “Oh shut up sis.”
Will then poked Nico’s cheeks, “Are you blushing sweetheart?”
Nico glared at him, “Don’t call me that!” He then took the table knife then pointed it at Will’s neck, “Let. it. Go. Solace.”
Will chuckled as he raised his hands defensively, “Alright, alright. I’m just kidding, geez, don’t need to be grumpy.”
Hazel was looking back and forth between Nico and Will, “It’s times like this that make people wonder if the sorting hat has mistaken you for each other as you were being sorted.”
Frank chuckled beside her, “Yeah, that’s a point everyone has been talking about.”
Will and Nico shared a knowing look as they replied in unison, “We know.”

Nico just finished his morning classes and was walking towards the Great Hall to have some lunch and finally see Will again, no matter how annoying the Slytherin is. Yes, he admits it, he liked Will, and Hazel is the only one who knows. Apparently, the whole school is teasing them due to how close they were. Plus, both him and Will are out, so speculations just can’t be stopped now, can they?
As Nico was walking, deep in thought, someone pulled him from behind and slammed him to the wall, making him drop the book in his hand. “What do we have here?”
Nico hissed, “Octavian, let me go.”
Octavian snickered, “I thought you liked blonde Slytherins or does that only apply to Solace?”
Nico glared, “I told you to let me go, Octavian.”
Octavian did, but only to grab his book from the ground, “Greek Myths? You really are one heck of a nerd, Di Angelo.”
Nico tried to reach for the book, “Give that back to me!”
Octavian only raised it above his head, “What’s the matter shortie? Can’t reach your pathetic book?”
Someone tackled Octavian from the side, “You heard him, give him back the book.”
Octavian quickly stood up, “Oh hi Solace, came to save your weakling Hufflepuff friend, I see.”
Will clenched his fist, ready to throw a punch when Nico grabbed him, “Don’t do it, Will. He’s not worth it.”
Octavian snickered, “Listen to your friend, Solace. Afterall, you’re just a disappointment to the Slytherin house.”
Will glared, “You can insult me all you want, but just fucking give Nico’s book back.”
Nico placed a reassuring hand on Will’s shoulder, “You don’t need to do this, I could get another one.”
Will growled, “No, I will get your book back, and Octavian will get what he deserves.”
Nico was shocked at his friend’s reaction, he has never seen Will this angry and protective. He was protective of him? This made butterflies flutter in his guts. Nico then sighed as he cupped Will’s face then made him face him, “Will, it’s alright. Don’t snoop down to his level, you’re better than this and you know it. You’re not usually the type to pick up a fight, and I will certainly not let you start one on my account.” He said this firmly with affection and concern.
Will’s clenched fist went slack, and his whole body relaxed, then his expression softened as he met Nico’s gaze, “Alright, what do you say we just walk away from this?”
Nico hummed in agreement, before they walked away though, Nico noticed Octavian throw his book then raise his wand. Nico immediately pushed Will out of the way as Octavian said, “Crucio.” Hitting Nico with the spell instead.
Nico fell to the ground in pain. He was screaming so badly. The pain really was unbearable. It feels like every limb of his body was being pulled and tortured. Will then regained composure as he shook with anger, he raised his wand at Octavian. The latter didn’t notice from the amusement of Nico being in pain.
Will calmed himself before finally casting the spell, “Expeliarmus!” This immediately disarmed Octavian. Will kicked his wand aside then kicked Octavian right in the face, grabbed Nico’s book then carried Nico bridal style. The Hufflepuff groaned but Will hushed him, “Shhh, it’s gonna be alright. I’ll take you to the hospital wing.” Nico nodded in his arms then fell unconscious.

Once Nico woke up he noticed Will holding one of his hands, while the blonde’s other hand was supporting the book he was reading, which he had noticed was his Greek Mythology book. Nico smiled at this and so he squeezed Will’s hand to signal that he was awake. Will immediately put the book down then smiled at Nico, “You’re awake!” He then noticed their hands then blushed as he slowly removed them from being intertwined, “I-I’m sorry.”
Nico stopped him from pulling away though, “It’s alright.” The two boys were blushing at this as they met each other's gaze.
Will cleared his throat, “It’s nearly dinner by the way.”
Nico’s eyes widened, “Were you here the entire time?”
Will nodded hesitantly, then the nurse came in, “He sure was. He’s really worried eventhough I told him, you just need some sleep and your state is nothing to worry about. He even skipped class and got a few minus points from his house just to stay with you.” The nurse then winked at Nico, “He’s a keeper.”
Normally, he would be embarrassed by this, but he couldn’t get himself to feel like that at the moment. So, he chuckled instead, “Yeah, he is.” The nurse hummed as she checked on Nico then told him he was set to go anytime he wanted.
When the nurse left, Nico looked at Will then noticed that Will’s cheek was red and that he had a look of surprise, “I- I’m a keeper?”
Nico can’t help it anymore and so he smiled teasingly, “You’re a pretty good friend, Will.”
Will’s face fell, “Oh, yeah, of course. A good friend”
Nico laughed at the emphasis of the word 'friend', “But you know…”
Will then began grinning, “I know?”
Nico sighed, “Well if you want to be something else, we always could.”
Will smiled really brightly, it almost made Nico want to look away. Almost. Will then nodded, “Okay.”
Nico looked at him questioningly, “Okay, what?”
Will was still smiling so brightly, “Nico di Angelo, would you be my boyfriend?”
Nico had to prevent himself from squealing, sadly he couldn’t prevent the blush on his face, “Oh my gods Solace, why are you asking this just now? I got a feeling people don’t actually believe our whole ‘best friend’ act this whole entire time.”
Will snorted, “I'll take that as a yes.”
They then leaned in to kiss each other. When they pulled away, Will helped Nico up and they were off to the Great Hall. While they were walking Nico smirked at Will, “Well now I understand why you’re a Slytherin.” Will looked at him questioningly as Nico tried to reason out, “That stunt you pulled with Octavian earlier? That’s really Slytherin of you.”
Will nodded then smiled, “How calm you were back there makes me realize just how much a Hufflepuff you truly are, especially after you took that spell for me. Which by the way you should never ever ever do again. I hate seeing you hurt.”
Nico snorted, “Are you commanding me? That’s also very Slytherin of you.”
Will rolled his eyes, “I’m just looking after my boyfriend. I will protect you no matter what, my love.”
Nico glared, “I don’t need protecting, Solace. Plus, it’s better to ignore and stay away from fights anyways.”
Will hummed in satisfaction, “And that my dear, is very Hufflepuff of you.”
Nico huffed as they reached the Great Hall, they were met by some of their friends. Hazel, Frank, and Austin from Hufflepuff, Jason and Leo from Ravenclaw, Reyna, Piper, Percy, and Kayla from Gryffindor, and Annabeth from Slytherin.
Annabeth was the first to speak, “Don’t worry Nico, I made sure Octavian got the punishment he deserved.”
Hazel then hugged Nico, “I’m glad you’re alright!”
Nico smiled, “Thanks, sis.”
Reyna crossed her arms, “I could beat him up for you.”
Percy nodded next to her, “Me too.”
Jason hummed in agreement, “I’ll make sure we all don’t get caught.”
Will chuckled, “No need for that, Nico doesn’t like violence. Plus, I already kicked him in the face earlier.”
Piper chuckled, “I bet he’s hiding right now from the damage you’ve done.”
Annabeth nodded, “He deserved it.”
Kayla then glared at Will, “Be careful of the fight you pick, bro.”
Will smiled, “I can’t just leave him to keep bullying Nico. Besides, you would have done the same.”
Kayla nodded, “Touche.”
Everyone then began asking if Nico was really alright, and all of that until Nico cleared his throat, “I have an announcement to make.”
Their friends went silent as they waited for what Nico was going to say. Only, Nico didn’t say anything, instead, he grabbed Will’s hand in his then raised it in front of them. It took awhile but when they finally grasped what Nico was trying to say, they all gasped then a series of ‘Congratulations’ bursted out. Nico and Will were blushing until someone from behind clapped slowly.
Nico and Will turned to see Octavian with a band-aid on his nose, “Looks like the two faggots finally got together.”
Reyna stepped forward raising her wand at Octavian, “You have no right to insult them in such a way.”
Octavian glared at her, “You don’t scare me.”
Annabeth stepped forward, “Well you better be scared.”
Percy put an arm around Annabeth as he stepped forward too, “No one messes with our friends.”
Piper also stepped forward, “You’re just jealous that no one would ever love you the way Nico and Will love each other.”
Octavian turned his glare on her, “Be careful what you say.”
Jason then stepped in front of her, “Be careful who you're threatening.”
Leo stepped beside Jason, “Yeah, you have no idea who you’re messing with.”
Kayla and Austin stepped forward to be face to face with Octavian. Kayla was the one who spoke first, “How dare you attempt to throw an unforgivable curse on my brother.”
Austin then chimed in, “Man, It’s not cool to pick up a fight with Hufflepuffs.”
Frank nodded as he stepped forward with Hazel, “You should really not underestimate us.”
Hazel hummed in agreement, “We may not be dangerous, but we have a ton of friends who would come to our aid when we need them.”
Will then walked in front of all of his friends, dragging Nico with him, “You messed with the wrong Hufflepuff, Octavian. No one hurts Nico.”
Octavian looked at all of them in disgust then glared at Nico, “Aren’t you gonna have a say on this?”
Nico smirked, “Nah, my friends are pretty clear with what they want to happen.”
Octavian crossed his arms, “Well whatever! You guys aren’t fair!” He then walked out then the whole group ended up laughing. Nico and Will then smiled at each other. Both were smiling in amusement as they met each other's gaze. Nico then pulled Will by his robes then kissed him passionately which gave their friends a reason to tease them after.
