He was nervous. Bucky had shown up unexpectedly at Sarah’s house. He knocked and waiting until Sarah opened the door confused.
“Bucky? What are you doing here?” Sarah asked curiously.
“I,” He took a deep breath, “Came to talk to you about something important.” She stepped to the side as Bucky walked into the home. The house was quiet. The boys were probably off at school.
“So what’s so important?” She asked becoming concerned.
“I wanted to ask you something but I’m not sure if people nowadays do it anymore. It might just be me being old. You might think this stupid and I-” Bucky rambled on.
Sarah cut him off, “Bucky, just ask me whatever you want to ask me already.”
Bucky let out a shaky breath before just blurting out, “I want to ask for your permission to marry Sam.”
Sarah stood there stunned. Thinking to just a few weeks ago when Sam came to visit.
FLASHBACK:
They were making dinner when Sam told her, “I’m thinking about proposing.”
“What?” Sarah stopped what she was doing before looking at her brother and the giant smile on his face, “Are you serious?” As if making sure he wasn’t fucking with her.
“I’m serious. He’s the one.”
Sarah put down the knife in her hand before hugging her brother so tightly he almost couldn’t breathe, “I’m so happy for you.”
“I haven’t asked him yet.” He laughed as he hugged her back.
“You know he’ll say yes.” Sarah said with excitement. She was happy for her brother. He had found someone to be at his side.
PRESENT:
“Bucky,” Sarah smiled at him, “You don’t need my permission.”
“I know. I just felt it was right.”
“Well, in that case, it’s a yes from me.”
Bucky looked up at her a bit shocked, “Really?” Sarah had more than welcomed their relationship and was beyond supportive. But he was unsure if Sarah would be okay with marriage being on the table.
“Of course. I would be more than happy to have you join the family.” Sarah gave him a hug and Bucky relaxed as he hugged her back.
“Thank you. You don’t know what this means to me.” Bucky said barely above a whisper. Bucky had no family for so long. Then he had Steve. His closest friend. And now he was gone. Having Sam and Sam’s family, it felt like he was whole again. He knew his mind would never be the same but having Sam by his side, it would make it easier.
“Stay for dinner. The boys would love to see you. I’m sure Sam is busy doing Captain America stuff.” Sarah said as she walked to the kitchen.
Bucky smiled, “He doesn’t get back till tomorrow. I can stay for a couple of hours and see the boys.”
