Sam woke up feeling nervous. He knew Bucky would say yes. He looked over at Bucky still fast asleep. Sam let out a deep breath and quietly got out of bed. He thought of a million different ways to ask him. Asking him in public was definitely out of the question. But there was still so many ways to ask.
Sam walked into their closet and grabbed the box out of the hiding spot he has put it in weeks ago. He eventually ended up with just the idea of making him breakfast and asking.
Sam walked into the kitchen as he started to make breakfast and quietly as possible so as not to wake him up before it was all ready. He moved some things around in the fridge and pulled out the champagne bottle he had hidden in the back. He held his breath as he very slowly opened the bottle. It only let out a small pop and Sam sighed in relief.
“Making breakfast?” Sam froze as he heard Bucky’s coarse morning voice. He looked to notice Bucky walking into the kitchen with his hair still all a mess.
“Yeah. I’m almost done.” Sam said trying to remain calm. He glanced over to notice the ring box just on top of the counter. He quickly grabbed it and put it in his pocket.
Bucky looked at him curiously, “What was that?”
“What was what?” Sam asked back playing dumb. Sam could feel himself getting more nervous.
Bucky just raised his eyebrow at Sam as he sat on the counter still looking at him. Bucky noticed the opened champagne bottle on the counter, “Are we celebrating something?”
Sam looked over at the champagne and closed his eyes before mumbling, “This isn’t how I wanted this morning to go.”
Bucky grabbed Sam’s hand and pulled Sam towards him. Sam opened his eyes to notice Bucky’s face covered in worried, “What’s wrong?”
“Nothing’s wrong. I just had a plan.”
Bucky looked confused, “Plan for what?”
Sam looked away as he grabbed the ring box out of his hand and just held onto it in his hand, “Bucky, I love you.”
Sam looked up to Bucky’s beautiful smile looking down at him and continued, “And I will always love you. Every single day for the rest of my life. There will never be a day I don’t think about you. I can’t imagine not being together,” Sam cleared his throat trying to stop himself from crying, “Sure we started off in a bad place but look at us now. Now we are both stronger than ever. And I want to ask you, James Buchanan Barnes, to marry me.” Sam pulled out the ring box and opened it to show a simple silver band inside.
Bucky tried to talk but he had a lump in his throat and he just felt tears begin to fill his eyes, “You want me to marry you?”
“More than anything.” Sam whispered as he brushed away the tears from Bucky’s cheek.
“I’ll marry you. I’ll marry you a million times over if it means staying by your side forever.” Bucky wrapped his arms around Sam’s neck as he pulled him closer and kissed him. Sam couldn’t help but smile into the kiss. He couldn’t be happier. It felt like time had stopped as Bucky’s lips consumed his.
When they finally had to pull away to breathe, Bucky chuckled. Sam looked at him curiously with the smile on his face never leaving, “What’s so funny?”
“I was going to propose too. Just not today.”
“What?” Sam asked surprised at hearing Bucky say that.
Bucky nodded, “I went and talked to your sister and everything.”
“You went to see Sarah?”
“Yeah. I wasn’t going to propose and not ask for permission.”
“You old man,” Sam pulled Bucky back in for another passionate kiss, “Where’s my ring then?”
Bucky rolled his eyes, “I hid it under the couch.” Bucky got off the counter and went to grab the box he had hidden.
Bucky walked back over to Sam and opened it to reveal a ring made of vibranium, “Think you will marry this old 100 year old man, Samuel Thomas Wilson?”
Sam chuckled at hearing Bucky say his full name, “Of course I will.”
They decided to place their rings on their right hands. It would kinda hide to most people that they were engaged. Sam grabbed them champagne as they drank to the realization that they would be together forever now.
