“Strawberry with black chocolate chip! Blackberries for her hair, and blueberry ice-cream just like her sky blue stare!”
André looked proudly at his creation and Adrien couldn’t help smiling. But then the ice-cream maker’s eyes fell on his partner and he smiled widely. Adrien had to agree that the ice-cream wasn’t subtle at all.
“Ah, see, the ice-cream knows what is inside your heart!” He pointed out.”Of course I’m not surprised. And this isn’t even the first time I’ve put these particular flavours together. Our Ladybug has a lot of admirers, obviously. A superhero, but also a supermodel among them.” He continued casually.
Adrien felt like he was going to faint. He hadn’t expected that. He’d innocently suggested they get ice-cream to enjoy the warm spring day. How was he supposed to know that this could endanger his secret identity?
“What do you mean?” He asked, trying not to panic. He couldn’t even look at Ladybug for fear of giving himself away.
“That I made this same ice-cream for the famous Adrien Agreste! He obviously has a thing for our beloved superheroine as well!”
Adrien wanted to sigh in relief for not actually being unmasked right there, but then he panicked again.
“Wait, really?” Ladybug asked, looking at the ice-cream in his hand in surprise. Was she intrigued or terrified?
“I’m never wrong, dear! I can tell when there is love in someone’s eyes! Now, for you. Peach pink like his lips and mint like his eyes!”
When André handed the ice-cream to Ladybug, he sighed happily.
“Perfect! You two have found each other!”
Adrien looked confused at him before following his eyes to their ice-creams. His was pretty self-explanatory. While Ladybug’s.. What had he said? Wait. He couldn’t mean that the ice-cream symbolised him, right?
“Have a nice day, André!” Ladybug said too quickly, nudging him away as she smiled and waved at André.
“I’m sorry if this got awkward, he means well. He’s a hopeless romantic at heart. I understand this,” Adrien said when they found a bench to sit on.
“I know. Also, it’s not like his ice-cream always gets it right. I’m pretty sure Adrien is not in love with me,” she snorted.
“Why not?” He asked, taken aback.
“Because he’s Adrien Agreste!” She exclaimed.
“And you’re Ladybug,” he reminded her. He couldn’t believe that she’d consider him anything more than her. “I may have to find him so we can form our own “I love Ladybug” fanclub,” he chuckled. As if he could do this with himself, but it was fun to say it. She gasped.
“I told you, it can’t be right.”
“What if it is?” he said, looking curiously at her.
“I... “ She looked down at her ice-cream. She mumbled something like “too good to be true.” Huh.
He backtracked. The ice-cream flavours. It couldn’t be that..
“So is your ice-cream right, then?” He asked, feeling the ice-cream shake in his trembling hand. He tried to steady it.
“Um, yes,” she admitted. Oh wow. Here goes nothing.
“So could it be then that you fell for Adrien’s mint-green eyes?“ He asked, trying to make it sound like a casual question.
She didn’t gasp but her cheeks became so red they almost blended with her mask. Ha!
“N-no,” she said belatedly. He could see it clearly in her eyes. It was really him!
“Well, you should be happy! If you’re in love with him and he’s in love with you!” He practically sang. But then he realised he probably overdid it because her eyes turned to him.
“Why would you be so happy about that?” She asked suspiciously. She eyed the ice-cream in his hand and this time she gasped. “Unless you’re actually him..”
He almost dropped his ice-cream.
“André thought my ice-cream meant I was in love with you,” she whispered. She looked close to dropping hers as well, her hand was shaking so badly. “So it is you.”
“Oh no. I’m sorry. I shouldn’t have asked questions.. Look what happened,” he said, regret filling his heart. He didn’t want to lose her over some ice-cream. It wasn’t worth it even if it turned out that she was in love with him after all. A giggle surprised him.
“Oh God. Just look at us,” she said. “We can’t even have ice-cream together without it outing us. How we’ve lasted this long without finding out is beyond me,” she laughed.
He had to join in. She was right. If something as innocent as ice-cream could give away so much, they didn’t stand a chance. It would have happened sooner or later.
“So. Now I’ll just have to find the girl who gets the peach and mint combination as well,” he said with a wink.
“There might be too many,” she warned him.
“Pfft, no way. Admirers maybe, fans as well. But someone to get the magical ice-cream for being in love with me? I doubt there are a lot of people to fit that description.”
“So you’re that certain that it won’t take you long?” She said, a challenge in her eyes.
“Yes. Do I win a kiss if I get it right?” He asked with a smirk.
“Hm. Maybe.”
“It’s game on then!”
They did finish their ice-cream after all, it would have been a waste not to. Although he was a lot more tempted by her than the ice-cream. He just needed to wait a little.

He was already 99% sure. He’d always known, deep inside. But when he arrived at school the next morning and saw that Marinette couldn’t look him in the eye, he was 100% certain.
She was trying too hard not to look at him. It wasn’t the usual shyness and awkwardness around him, which he could explain so easily now. He walked casually to her, a small smile on his lips.
“You’re trying too hard,” he said when he reached her. “M’lady,” he added quietly when he bent down to her height. And then he claimed his prize.
The room around them erupted in confused shouts and cheers, but he barely paid attention to that. He only felt her smile against his lips but even this couldn’t ruin the most perfect kiss, the one he’d waited for for so long..
“You’re too good,” she said when he pulled back, a lovely blush on her cheeks.
“I only care if it’s good enough for you,” he replied.
“It’s more than enough,” she said before pulling him down for another kiss.
