Chapter Text
"You've got everything?"
A calm raspy voice pulled her from her thoughts. "Huh? oh, yeah." Kyoshi held up her video camera to the short girl who had addressed her. Rangi in response raised an eyebrow at the sheepish girl. "Really?" she waited with a beat of silence as Kyoshi checked over herself. "I've got everything. Video camera, Flashlight," She tapped the headlamp attached to her head. "Microphone. Isn't that all?"
Rangi sighed pinching the bridge of her nose. "Inhaler." She stated it as if it were the most obvious thing. Kyoshi's eyes widened in realization as she set her camera and microphone down and searched her jacket and pants pockets for the item that would keep her from one of her many occasional attacks that would trigger if she got too worked up. In the end, she came up empty-handed. Kyoshi began to freak out, how had she forgotten something so important? Where had she put it? Was it in the car? Had she left it back at the agency? Wouldn't Yun or Kirima have said something? as she spiraled into her thought her breathing quickened. She was starting to feel light-headed and woozy as she gasped for much-needed oxygen.
Arms wrapped around Kyoshi and she was pulled into a warm hug. "Calm down you oaf." Rangi gently whispered bring Kyoshsi dead down to lock eyes with her "Deep breaths. Inhale," Rangi took in a deep breath through her nose waiting for Kyoshi to mimic her before exhaling through her mouth gently, "Exhale."
Rangi led Kyoshi steadily through the breathing exercise till she was certain Kyoshi was completely calm. Kyoshi opened her mouth to thank Rangi but she was quickly cut off when something was thrust into her hands and Rangi took a step backward to gain some personal space with a small tint of pink to her cheeks. Kyoshi looked down and in her palms rested a small plastic object. Kyoshi's eyes widened, "This is my inhaler. How did you get it? where was it?"
Rangi in an attempt to calm the other woman held up her hand to halt her speech. "You left it on your desk and I picked it up." Kyoshi went to speak but was quickly cut off again as Rangi put on a more serious face. "We have a job to do and we are just wasting time. The sun is already starting to set."
With a beat, Kyoshi quickly remembered why they were here. They were Paranormal investigators and this place was said to be haunted. Kyoshi hadn't wanted to come on this one because the story behind this creepy Hospital terrified her. But Yun was able to sweet-talk her into it and Rangi being the one who took her job seriously wouldn't let her back out. They probably wouldn't be leaving their job was done and Kyoshi would rather not stay in this haunted Hospital overnight like she had spent in the last haunted house she and Rangi had investigated. She hadn't gotten a wink of sleep while Rangi had slept like a baby. Rangi really did fear nothing, or she was just very good at hiding it.
Kyoshi nervously laughed and swallowed thickly. she reached back into the trunk of the car and pulled out her equipment meticulously clipping her microphone onto her jacket and resting the camera strap loosely around her neck. The cold leather fit snugly around her neck giving her some comfort. Kyoshi stepped back and closed the trunk turning back to Rangi who was shouldering a backpack full of supplies with her spirit box in hand.
The building in itself was in pretty good shape albeit run down. Rangi reached out and pushed through the rusted gates causing the rusted gates to squeak under the new weight. Silently Kyoshi followed clutching her camera tight to her as she followed behind the smaller woman. "So do you have the key?" In response, she got a small nod from the shorter woman.
"There should be a door around back," Rangi answered after a moment. Rangi looked around surveying the area around the building. There was broken glass littering the ground. The once beautiful garden that had been on the premises was overgrown with weeds. The building had been graffitied with different symbols ranging from words like 'Get out' or the normal satanic symbol.
Kyoshi looked at a broken bottle laying on the ground right outside the entrance door they would be entering through. In big letters in paint wrote 'Stay out' the fear that Kyoshi felt was unnerving "Don't you think we should just leave? I mean it says stay out. There must be a good reason." Kyoshi tried to reason with the short woman.
Rangi looked at her with an annoyed expression "Kyoshi we have a job to do. You can't back out now." Rangi stepped forward and fished a silver key from her pocket. Rangi pushed the key in and turned the lock. The door swung open with a loud creak. Rangi stepped in and looked around the dark hallway, she reached up and clicked on the flashlight strapped to her head.
Kyoshi stepped in and shuddered. She pulled her jacket closer as a chill settled over her body. "It's really cold in here." Rangi hummed in agreement. Rangi turned around and pointed at the camera around Kyoshis's neck "We should start recording." Kyoshi nodded and fumbled to turn on her camera. All her nerves were on high alert from the chill in the room.
The camera blinked to life and Kyoshi brought it up to her face to look through the green screen of the camera, "we are rolling". Kyoshi got out nervously. Rangi nodded and motioned for Kyoshi to follow her. Kyoshi was not looking forward to the rest of this night.
"We should start on the first floor and make our way up." Rangi eyed Kyoshi to observe the taller woman's reaction. Kyoshi nodded and they set off into the building to find what terror awaits them.
