The Joy She Brings

Summary:

“I had the drinks made extra bloody,” Morticia said, announcing herself in the room, “And I found a mask downstairs. I think Thing has been using it, but there is plenty for both of us.”

You opened your eyes, watching Morticia as she practically floated around the room. Sometimes she just drove you mad. In all of her dark, ethereal beauty. Her eyes flickered to you and a smile tugged at the corner of her mouth.

“Pass me a drink?” You requested sweetly.

Work Text:

One thing you could always count on Morticia for was her excellent skills in making you smile.

That is why, when you came home from a horrible day at work, she was the first to notice your terrible mood. She put down her things immediately, forehead creasing as she looked worried.

“Darling, what ever is the matter?” Morticia asked, moving over to your side and sweeping you up in her arms.

“Nothing, Tish. Just had a bad day.” You said, leaning into her embrace.

The feeling of her arms offered you the first reprieve of the day. It had been long, filled with unreasonably rude people and a list of difficult tasks. You’d accomplished the tasks no problem. Dealing with the cruelty of others, though, that was a different story.

You hated it, but the words of people did get to you. It wasn’t that you weren’t confident. You were perfectly confident with your life. It just broke your heart that people could be so horrible for no reason, whether it was to workers in a store or just strangers on the street.

“What can I do, my dark heart?” She said softly.

Morticia brushed a piece of hair out of your face, looking at you tenderly. You couldn’t get over how lucky you were. Meeting Morticia and falling for her had been the best thing to happen in your life.

“I wouldn’t mind some face masks?” You suggested.

“That sounds splendid! I can ask mama to mix up some bloody marys and we can spend the evening in a haze of tranquility,” Morticia smiled, clapping her hands together as the plan came to her mind, “Now, my darling, go and prepare yourself. I’ll be there soon.”

It took all of your strength to remove yourself from Morticia’s embrace. You held onto her hand until you had walked too far away, and felt the loss of contact like a blow to the heart. It was that type of day.

You busied yourself by changing into the most comfortable nightgown you owned. It was a beautiful, deep red silk number that Morticia had purchased for your birthday. The long sleeves wrapped perfectly around your arms, before flaring into black lace by your wrists. You loved to wear it and Morticia loved to see you in it. It was a winner all around.

Following her instructions, you got comfortable and waited. Stress melted away from your body. You allowed yourself to just melt into the seat.

“Of course.”

She passed you a drink, taking a sip of her own. You took a drink of yours and let your eyes slip closed. It was definitely the solution to a horrible day.

“What mask did you find for us, Tish?”

“It’s an ash mask of the finest quality.”

“Oh, one of the volcanic ash ones?” You inquired with an excited smile.

“Mm, not quite.” Morticia said, before beginning to dig some out of the container.

You debated on whether or not to ask what kind of ash it was, before deciding to just go with it. She had the most luxurious skin, so you couldn’t argue with whatever she used. And she would never steer you wrong.

She applied the mask to your face with small, gentle motions. You let your eyes slip closed. It had been ages since the last time you and Morticia had taken the time to pamper yourselves. You made a mental note to do so more often, as it clearly worked to relieve negative emotions. Though that could have just been Morticia.

“You would be an exquisite ghost, my love.” She commented.

You caught sight of yourself in the mirror and couldn’t help but laugh a little. The mask was thick enough to cancel out all of the shadows on your face, making you look ghostly indeed. Though you weren’t sure you agreed with Morticia. You didn’t think being a ghost was a good look for you.

“I don’t wish to be a ghost unless I can spend an eternity haunting the halls with you.” You said.

“You know what it does to me when you talk so beautifully.” Morticia said.

Her voice was raspy and deep. She longed to lean forward and kiss you, but didn’t want to mess up the mask, as it hadn’t dried down yet. You smiled mischievously.

“Just imagine us, Tish. Roaming the Addams estate, forever locked in the painful bliss of the in-between. Spending every moment torn between the agony of one day moving on and the joy of being together in such a way.”

“Oh, Y/N…”

Morticia couldn’t stand it anymore and closed the distance, kissing you deeply. Only for you would she suffer in such an exquisite way. Only for you. You were her past, present, future, and afterlife. And nothing could separate you from her during this kiss. Not even death.

Even after the kiss ended, you remained close together. No space separating the two of you. You thanked the spirits for sending Morticia to you, for making her yours.

No day, no matter how bad, could ever hold a candle to the joy she brought into your life. And it never would.
