Chapter Text
Endless nothingness.
It was the first thing she remembered. A horrible feeling of grief mixed with guilt was crushing her lungs, making it almost impossible to breathe. The first time, she didn’t remember seeing their bodies, but now they were lying right there.
Burned out limbs, faces with open lifeless eyes, and empty minds.
The wind mixed with sand was blowing into her face, hurting her skin. She tried to turn away, stop torturing herself, yet her feet were stuck in her spot, allowing sorrow to root heavily into her chest. Desperately trying to push it away, she kneeled, extending a hand towards them as tears clung to her eyelashes, making her sight blurry. Blue energy slipped through her trembling fingers, hopelessly, looking for a presence, for some kind of sign that they still were there.
Emptiness.
“I can’t feel you,” sobs came out from her lips without permission. Her whole body shaking when she felt nothing . “I can’t feel you.” it felt like someone was ripping her bleeding heart out of her chest.
Putting her hands in her head, she closed her eyes tightly, wishing for this nightmare to stop and yearning for his arms around her. For the comfort only he could provide, the warmth of his presence in her mind. Because he was the only person left for her, the only person able to understand what it is to lose everything.
The only person who still loves her, isn’t it?
Suddenly, his harsh words returned to her. The clear resentment in his tone, disgust in his expression. The coldness in his beautiful green eyes, and next there was a flash of blue. Just like that, he was gone.
The bond that tied them together, the one that was meant to last forever, wasn’t there anymore. She waited what it felt like hours for him to come back. Anger, resentment, and deep loathing were the only emotions left behind.
Abruptly, she realized the painful truth. He left her. He did the only thing he promised he wouldn’t do.
Thoughts materialized in her mind, screaming the truth with mocking voices. All of this could be avoided, if only she wasn’t so useless. He probably knows it now, and he despises her for it.
Maybe if she tried harder to do something. If she wasn’t so weak, then things would be different. Maybe his siblings would be alive . Her family would be alive . And the dreams of a normal life with him could be true.
A worthless woman full of this magic , unable to protect the people she loves. A woman who is at fault for her husband’s suffering.
Completely alone.
She only wanted everything to stop.
It hurt so much.
By reaction, she slammed her hands on the dry floor repeatedly whilst a painful burn consumed her soul. The power running through her veins, buzzing in every inch of her body, ripping a painful scream from the back of her throat.
It hurt so much.
Her mind was in chaos, and for a single moment, she saw every possibility, every what-if. For a brief instant, she could hear a familiar voice, full of concern, calling her name. Could feel emotions that didn’t belong to her. Through her blurred vision, she saw a familiar flash of blue, followed by a young man running in her direction. And she wanted to cry so badly when she took a glimpse of familiar green eyes, starting with her with astonishment.
It hurt so much.
Waves of energy surrender them, and she finally let it go.
Her world was quiet for a moment. People, places, death . Then the man she loves was right in front of her. No pain in his face.
She smiles.
“Welcome home, my love.”
