“Hello, Parkinson,” he greeted warmly, extending a hand as he walked toward her. “Good to see you.”
She shook it, struck dumb. He was taller. How was he taller than the last time she saw him? Isn’t a man’s height at 18 kind of their height for life then, the peak? And yet here he was, taller than that, fit and trim and utterly handsome in a perfectly tailored blue suit with a skinny black tie. There was an expensive watch on his wrist. He beamed at her. Her mouth went dry in panic.
“Parkinson was a chum at Hogwarts,” he explained to the group around him, who “ooo”ed kindly and smiled at her, too.
“Chums?” she repeated. No one would ever have called them chums, especially not him.
“Aye, I like to think so.” There was a sparkle in his eye - mischievous and daring. Like he wanted her to disagree with him and tell their adoring audience (HIS adoring audience) all of the horrible things she used to say and do to him in secondary school.
