Dragons are legendary creatures in japanese folklore and mythology. They symbolize power, sometimes even beauty, and have the ultimate freedom. Freedom was something Kagami learned to appreciate over time. Having been caged in a mold, to be shaped into a form someone else told her to grow into.
She had been the holder of the dragon miraculous before and it gave her the one thing she desired the most. It completed her in a way nothing else could. Longg allowed her to excel. Thanks to the kwami she could truly be perfect and surpass whatever expectations her mother had. Together as Ryuko they were perfect, but not complete.
No. Her zen garden was still lacking life. Kagami was the sand and Longg was the rocks, but only one person could be the moss, the light and the life of her innermost sanctum. Alix.
They were both stubborn when presented with a task. They shared self confidence and skill, and yet they were like fire and ice. Alix's stubbornness burned brightly and wild. Untamed as she was she might as well have been born as a true dragon. Kagami herself was the ice. She was pristine, accurate and beautifully intricate. Her fierceness and determination is an edge that got only sharper with time.
Maybe, just maybe, that was why they clicked together so nicely. They fit as if they had been waiting for each other, two halves of one whole. Alix appreciated her bluntness when Kagami asked her out.
Fluff gives Alix the ultimate freedom. As the holder of the rabbit miraculous she had control over time, and she could fix any and every mistake she ever made in the blink of an eye. This kind of power, it could have solved so many of Kagami's problems. Yet, Alix never used her abilities for personal gain.
To Kagami, Alix was the water dragon Ryujin, skating on the ocean of time like it was nothing to her. She loved to get caught on one of her waves, and then to get pulled along for a wild ride. One smile and they were in their own world, together.
"Hey! What are you thinking about?" Bunnyx barked with a smile, her hands on her hips and balled into fists.
"I'm thinking about my favorite water dragon." Kagami answered calmly, her pose dignified and in control.
"Uh?"
Ryuko nodded, her red scaled costume was shimmering in the late evening sun like the embers of a dying fire.
"My favorite water dragon. Ryujin."
Bunnyx blue suit seemed to glow with a soft halo as well, the bunny puff bell on her neck bubbled around as she shifted from one foot to the other.
"You."
"What?" Alix sent Kagami a look.
"My favorite water dragon is you. You are my Ryujin. My current of time."
Normally, Alix would have punched whoever decided to be this poetically sappy in her presence, but for Kagami she would make an exception. She mumbled something that sounded suspiciously like "you big sappy lizard" before she put their foreheads together for a quick nose kiss.
It was nothing elaborate or majestic. It was not big, but rather small. However, this little gesture left Kagami filled with warm fuzzy butterflies in her heart. Her dying embers became a true dragonfire.
"Come on you slowpoke! We're gonna be late and I want to kick ass!"
Ryuko smiled, "when are you not?"
"Yeah, yeah, love you too, dragon."
"I love you much more."
Alix was no princess. No matter what, she was no lady or damsel. If anything, she was the dragon that kept the princess in her castle. Her favorite shirt, covered in green scales, was the thing that made her realize that Kagami was just her type.
In Alix's eyes the fierce dragoness was dignified like royalty, and as strong as a thousand warriors. The holder of the dragon miraculous was perfect in her eyes, no matter what anyone else dared to say. She could make even a bathrobe look like a red carpet dress.
Freedom was her thing. Fast, loud and born to be wild was her life. She could get lost in the wind as soon as she was on her skates. Kagami was her Earth. Like a lightning rod, Kagami grounded her when her spirit threatened to give her whiplash. It was incredibly reassuring to know that she had a rock to hold on to. Alix though it was a bonus that her rock was more of a rock star.
It was just one of these moments when Bunnyx felt her heart speed up in fear and anticipation. Right before a battle was a terrible time to lose her nerves, she knew, but one look at Ryuko's red and gold costume made her calm. The dragon had her back, and together their combined power was unbeatable. Alix's inner lightning, channeled by Kagami's perfectionism was a guided missile. Together they would win every battle. As a team, victory was a guarantee.
"Finally! There you are you slowpoke. What kept you?" Bunnyx teased.
And in her light, the dragoness bloomed into her full colors.
"I needed to plan ahead. After all, I need to think for both of us."
"Well, yeah." The bunny shot back, "your plans are the best! Why settle for my second rate ideas if we can use yours?"
The smile this earned her was worth the world and every last timeline she knew about. Kagami's true smile, her trust, companionship and her love was everything to Alix.
"You're amazing." That slipped out.
"Thank you, koibito."
Totally worth it.
