i really think i'm in love with you

Summary:

Korra and Asami have been together for months now, and Korra was finally feeling secure in her relationship with Asami.

But, she lets liquid courage take over and make some drunken confessions.

Notes:

Korrasami and drunken love confessions? sign me uuuuuup.

Originally, this was going to be something totally separate, but as I was writing I discovered that this goes PERFECTLY with my previous Korrasami fic "run dry".

So, here we are. Enjoy! Just like the original work, the title from this fic comes from Patrick Stump's "Run Dry (X Heart X Fingers)".

Work Text:

“And that’s a wrap,” Korra said smugly as the ping pong ball she threw landed swiftly in the last cup with a definitive swish. “Mako and Bolin, I believe you just got your asses kicked.”

Across from her, Mako and Bolin stood at the end of the table, mouths gaping wide as they stared at the last cup, the ping pong ball now bobbing up and down in the water. With a smirk and flourish, Korra bowed deeply, hearing Opal and Wu howling with laughter at her victory.

“You two should really see your faces right now,” said Asami, wrapping an arm around Korra’s waist and pulling her in for a kiss on the cheek.

“Fucking ridiclous,” Mako grumbled, grabbing his beer and taking a deep swig to avoid having to look at Korra and Asami who were now gloating. “I think you’re cheating, no one is that good at beer pong.”

“Or I’m just lucky,” Korra said with a nonchalant shrug of her shoulders, wrapping an arm around Asami’s neck in return. “You’re just jealous your ex girlfriends kicked your ass.”

“Am not!” Mako muttered, rolling his eyes.

Bolin punched his brother in the arm. “Come on, Mako, they won fair and square. Stop whining and take the loss with pride.”

“Listen to your brother, Mako,” Asami snickered, releasing her hold on Korra to reset the cups for their next game.

“I will do no such thing,” Mako stated, shaking his head and walking away towards the bathroom.

“Aw, poor baby is sad he got his butt whooped,” Wu said, batting his lashes at Mako as he walked by. In return, Mako placed his hand over Wu’s face and shoved him away.

“Come on, looks like everyone’s done here,” Korra told Asami, grabbing her girlfriend’s wrist and pulling her away from the pong table as Bolin went over to Opal, a mock pout on his face.

Together, they weaved their way into the kitchen where Wei and Wing were concocting more drinks. As they approached, Wing looked up from what he was doing to give them a cheer before focusing back on his task. Korra let go of Asami and walked over, peering over the twins’ shoulders to see what they were making.

“We’re not really sure,” Wei admitted, holding up his cup. “It has a little bit of everything, but if you’re willing to try it, then be our guest.”

“Hm,” Korra hummed, taking the cup from Wei and sniffing it, grimacing at the different scents that wafted from the cup. “This smells horrid.”

Korra held the cup out to Asami who leaned over and sniffed, scrunching her nose in disgust.

“No offense, boys, but they smells like it could fuck someone up in less than ten minutes,” Asami told them, waving a hand in front of her nose to waft the smell away.

“That’s the goal!” Wing commented, grinning triumphantly ahd glancing back and forth between Korra and Asami. “So, any takers?”

“What’s in it for me?” Korra asked, studying the contents of the cup again. In the low lamp light of the kitchen, she couldn’t really tell what color the liquid was, but she was one for taking a challenge.

“We buy you your alcohol of choice,” Wei promised.

“No matter how expensive,” Wing added, holding a hand out to Korra.

Korra raised her eyebrow at the twins, her eyes wandering to Wing’s outstretched hand. Humming again, she looked over at Asami, who just shrugged.

“Will you take care of me when I throw up?” Korra asked Asami, holding the cup up.

“I signed up for that when I agreed to be your girlfriend, didn’t I?” Asami asked, leaning up against the counter and crossing her arms, raising a thin eyebrow at Korra in amusement.

“Amongst other things,” Korra teased, winking at Asami.

Wei and Wing pretended to gag, but the latter just waved his hand in front of Korra. Again, Korra considered the cup and then Wing’s hand.

“Free booze at a possible later date and Asami agreed to take care of me,” Korra considered, swishing the liquid around in its cup.

“Hey, take it or leave,” Wei stated, now crossing his arms. “Oh, and you can’t tell Opal what we gave you.”

With a shrug, Korra grabbed Wing’s hand and shook it, the twins grinning wickedly as she did. Asami just sighed, but gave Korra an encouraging grin.

“All right, chug,” Wei told Korra, taking his phone out of his pocket and pointing it towards Korra.

Korra shot Wei a thumbs up and brought the cup to her lips, leaning back and drinking quickly, trying to ignore the burning sensation as it traveled down to her stomach. To be honest, the taste wasn’t that bad, but the flavors assaulted her taste buds, almost making her gag. But Korra was competitive, and she didn’t like to show weakness.

“Chug, chug, chug!” Wei and Wing chanted, Wei recording Korra on his phone.

When she was done, she squeezed the cup in her hand and threw it to Wei who smacked it away before it could hit him.

“That was absolutely nauseating,” Korra told the twins, hitting her chest lightly as she tried to ignore the lingering taste in her mouth.  “What was that?”

“Uh huh,” Wing chided, shaking his head.

“Ask not, and ye shall not receive,” Wei added, sliding his phone back in his pocket.

“That made no sense,” Asami replied, rolling her eyes and pushing herself off of the counter. “Korra, I’m getting you some water.”

“Yes please,” Korra replied, letting out a small burp.

Wei and Wing laughed, giving Korra pats on the back as they walked out of the kitchen and back towards the living room. Asami shook her head again, grabbing a water bottle out of the fridge and handing it over to Korra who took it gratefully.

“You need to stop agreeing to drinking weird drinks made by Opal’s brothers,” Asami told her, sitting on the counter and grabbing Korra’s wrist to pull her close.

Korra settled herself between Asami’s legs, glancing up at her girlfriend’s bright green eyes. She felt herself smile as Asami stroked down her arm, finger tracing Korra’s bicep as she did.

“Why?” Korra asked, tilting her head up to get a better look at Asami. “Don’t like taking care of me?”

“I mean, I do,” Asami said, knees digging into Korra’s waist. “But remember the last time you got drunk at a party?”

“I kissed you and pretended I didn’t remember,” Korra answered easily, placing the water down on the counter and placing her hands on Asami’s waist. “Believe it or not, I did remember doing that. Mostly because you didn’t let me get away with my bullshit.”

“You bisexual disaster,” Asami teased, flicking Korra’s nose affectionately.

“Says the girl who immediately ran to our mutual ex-boyfriend to ask for advice,” Korra teased back, her grip on Asami’s waist tightening. “So, look who’s talking.”

“You going to keep teasing me or are you going to kiss me?” Asami asked, placing her hands on Korra’s shoulders.

“I don't really know,” Korra replied thoughtfully. “You’re the one who started it, so I think I might just hold back on kissing you for a bit.”

“You’re an ass,” Asami told her, scooting closer to the edge of the counter, lacing her fingers behind Korra’s neck.

Smirking, Korra kept her chin up, pursing her lips together as she waited for Asami to make her decision. Rolling her eyes, Asami leaned forward, placing her lips softly on Korra’s. Sighing contentedly, Korra closed her eyes, allowing Asami to deepen the kiss, feeling Asami’s knees drive into her hips. Asami’s tongue flicked across Korra’s bottom lip, and it took everything in her not to moan as Asami’s tongue slid into her mouth, kissing her hungrily.

It had been three months since Korra’s drunken mishap where she pretended to not have kissed Asami at Mako and Bolin’s last party. No one was surprised when the two girls returned from their walk, smiles on both of their faces and gripping each other’s hands tightly as they went back to the living room. In fact, Korra was pretty sure she caught Bolin sliding a couple of yuans to Opal when he thought Asami and Korra weren’t looking.

Since then, Korra and Asami had been a couple, though Korra often found herself staring at Asami in awe. How was it that she, Korra, was able to somehow capture the attention of Asami Sato? In hindsight, Korra really did miss all of Asami’s obvious attempts at flirting with her after she and Mako broke up. Seriously, how oblivious was Korra?

Maybe it was her self esteem that made her think that Asami would never go for someone like Korra, but everyday Korra was thankful that Asami fell for her just as hard.

“Hey, hey!” someone yelled behind Korra. “No making out in the kitchen please!

Asami pulled away, narrowing her eyes at whoever was behind Korra. “Bolin, really?”

“No making out in public areas,” Bolin told them as Korra sighed, leaning her head against Asami’s chest. Asami’s hands immediately went to Korra’s hair, giving it a hard tug. “Go be horny somewhere else please.”

“Fuck off, Bolin,” Asami told him.

“Fine, fine,” Bolin replied, holding his hands up and backing away slowly. “We’re playing another drinking game though if you guys want to join us.”

“Sounds good,” Asami stated as Korra wrapped her arms around Asami’s middle, her cheek resting on Asami’s chest. Asami glanced down at her, fingers tangling at the bottom of Korra’s short hair. “Are you just down there to get a better feel of my boobs?”

Korra chuckled, moving away from Asami so she could look up at her. “What can I say, I’m a boob girl.”

Asami tsked, tugging Korra’s hair again. “Well, like Bolin said, we’re not allowed to be horny in the kitchen.”

“Booo,” Korra replied, burying her face in Asamis’ chest once more, feeling the vibrations of Asami chuckling as she rested her chin on Korra’s head.

“I think whatever Wei and Wing gave you is starting to take effect,” Asami said, wrapping her arms around Korra.

“Not booo,” Korra replied, finally pulling herself away from Asami to look up at her girlfriend. “But also boo, because I really want to play whatever drinking game Bolin was talking about.”

Asami chuckled, sliding down from the counter into Korra’s arms. “Of course you do. Do you never learn from your mistakes?”

“Nope,” Korra answered, kissing Asami’s nose and stepping away from Asami towards the living room.

She heard Asami sigh behind her, but when she glanced back, Asami was following her into the living room, the unopened bottle of water in her hand. Korra grinned, feeling more thankful for Asami everyday.

Everyone else was sitting in a circle on the living floor when Korra and Asami entered, a pile of Uno cards stacked in the middle.

“Drunken Uno!” Bolin exclaimed at Korra’s questioning look. “If you have to fish for more cards, you take a drink for each card you grab. If someone places a plus two down against you, you take a shot.”

“When someone has Uno, everyone else has to take a shot,” Mako added, pushing the pile of cards towards Bolin. “And the other rules we’ll come up with as we go.”

“Sounds dangerous,” Asami commented, taking a seat next to Opal.

“Sounds fun,” Korra countered, collapsing next to Asami. “I’m in!”

“Hey, Korra, how you feeling?” Wei asked, leaning over his brother to look at Korra, a wicked grin on his face.

“Yeah, feeling with us?” Wing added, smirking from next to Korra.

“Dammit, boys, what did you do?” Opal asked, shaking her head and also turning her attention to Korra. “Korra, what did they do?”

“I was told not to tell,” Korra answered, pretending to lock her lips with her fingers.

Opal looked at Asami for help, but the latter just rolled her eyes and shook her head. Defeated, Opal sighed and accepted her cards from Bolin. Mako, on the other hand, had gotten up to get drinks for those who decided to play; this included everyone except Asami who agreed to be team mom for the night.

“Honestly, I kind of enjoy watching everyone getting more and more drunk,” Asami stated, settling on her stomach next to Korra. “I get to make fun of everyone's aggressive hangovers tomorrow morning.”

“You know what, Asami,” Wu said, snapping his fingers. “Making fun of hungover people is a fun pastime. Maybe I’ll also skip this game out.”

“No way, Wu,” Mako chided, shoving Wu once more when he finally settled back down. “You begged to play another game, so you’re playing.”

“What will you give me if I play?” Wu asked, fluttering his lashes up at Mako, who just pinched the bridge of his nose in annoyance.

Korra leaned down to Asami, placing her lips as close to Asami’s ear as possible. “Think Mako will get the hint that Wu’s flirting with him?”

Asami snorted. “No way. I think he’s worse than us.”

Grinning, Korra sat back up, her eyes meeting Mako’s sitting across from her. He raised an eyebrow, but Korra just stuck her tongue out at him, grabbing her cards and fanning them out before her. Just her luck, she got two draw four cards.

“Okay everyone,” Bolin said, drink in one hand, cards in the other. “We shall now begin our game of drunken Uno. If you decide to fold, please just place your cards on the bottom of the pile.”

“Why might someone fold, Bolin?” Opal questioned, raising an eyebrow at her boyfriend.

Bolin shrugged. “Plenty of reasons. They’re getting too drunk and want to take a break, or they’re not winning and they decide to rage quit.”

“My money’s on Mako rage quitting within the first ten minutes!” Korra exclaimed, pointing at Mako.

The others snickered around the circle as Mako pinched the bridge of his nose again.

“Okay, I dealt, Opal you go first,” Bolin told her, elbowing her in the ribs.

Thus, the game began.

Even though she technically wasn’t playing, Korra roped Asami into the game to help her. With each play, Bolin found ways to include more drinking rules, causing everyone to slowly get more drunk.

Korra, who already had Wei and Wing’s horrible concoction in her system, was feeling the effects of the alcohol within the first ten minutes of the game. But, again, Korra was not one to quit. Instead, she relied on Asami to point out all of the blurry numbers and colors on the cards, placing each card on the deck so that Korra didn’t have to lean forward.

“We allowed to drink water?” Korra asked at one point; she had more cards in her hands than she was dealt because she didn’t listen to Asami and used her draw four cards too soon. Which meant that Korra had to drink a lot.

“Why, Korra?” Wing taunted. “Feeling dizzy?”

“Everything going blurry?” Wei added, smirking.

“Boys, I swear to any spirit out there…” Opal started, shooting her brothers a look.

They cringed at her glare, but Korra waved her hand and said, “I agreed to their terms, Opal, don’t worry. I’m a big girl.”

“Yeah! She can handle herself!” Wei retorted, but he immediately cringed again at Opal’s intense gaze.

“Don’t worry, Opal,” Asami assured her, patting her arm. “I was the witness, it’s fine.”

“Well, Korra, yes you can drink water,” Bolin answered finally, smacking a card down on the pile.

“Thank you Tui and La,” Korra muttered under her breath, handing Asami her cards and grabbing the water that sat next to her.

As Wu considered his next move, Korra opened the bottle and went to drink, though as soon she swallowed, she felt the water sloshing in her stomach. And it didn’t feel pleasant. Letting out a small groan, Asami snapped her attention to Korra, eyebrows raised in concern.

“Korra?” Asami questioned, sitting up and placing a hand on Korra’s back.

“Bathroom,” Korra replied, waving her hand and placing the bottle on the ground without securing the cap.

When she stood, the room spun around her, but she grinned at the others, pretending that everything was fine. Taking as steady of steps as she could, Korra slowly walked to the bathroom, her hand on the wall to keep herself from tipping over.

As soon as she was by the bathroom, she shoved the door open and ran in, slamming the door behind her and heading straight to the toilet. Before she even had the chance to think, she was kneeling over the toilet and emptying the contents of her stomach. She prayed no one could hear her retching, her hands gripping the toilet bowl as tears slid down her cheeks.

One thing’s for sure: Korra was never trusting Wei and Wing to make her a drink ever again. Plus, what happened to running dry?

“Korra?” Asami’s soft voice came from the side of the bathroom door, accompanied by a soft knock. “Korra, are you okay?”

“No,” Korra rasped, closing her eyes as another wave of nausea hit her.

She heard the door open and shut, then Asami was next to her, grabbing Korra’s hair and pulling it out of her face.

“Told you I’d take care of you,” Asami assured her gently.

Korra didn’t reply, just felt another wave of bile rising from her stomach. Asami whispered words of assurance as Korra vomited again, groaning as soon as she was done.

“Remind me to never trust Wei and Wing again,” Korra muttered, finally releasing the toilet bowl and sitting back on her feet, wiping her mouth with the back of her hand. With another groan, she reached over and flushed the toilet, wincing at the loud sound.

“I will,” Asmai promised, letting go of Korra’s hair. “But you and I both know you won’t listen.”

“Why do you know me so well,” Korra mumbled, curling up into Asami’s now open arms.

“Just because,” Asami replied, holding Korra close to her. “I like knowing you, Korra. And I like how you know me.”

“You’re very easy to be with, Asami,” Korra told her, cuddling into her girlfriend’s arms. “You make me feel all fluttery inside. Like there are butterflies in my chest. It’s nice.”

Asami chuckled softly, placing a kiss on the top of Korra’s head. “That’s how you make me feel too.”

“No way,” Korra snorted. “You’re Asami, you’re all cool and collected.”

“Babe,” Asami said, squeezing Korra slightly. “Did we not just have a conversation about us being disasters?”

“Me more than you,” Korra argued.

“If you say so,” Asami replied, earning her a small pinch from Korra.

Asami laughed, pulling Korra into her more, resting her chin on her girlfriend’s head and stroking her softly.

“Sorry I got drunk,” Korra mumbled, closing her eyes and taking in Asami’s scent; she smelled like the flowery perfume she liked to wear after work.

“It’s okay,” Asami assured her. “Like I said, I don’t mind taking care of your sorry ass, as long as you take care of mine at the next party.”

“Itsa deal,” Korra slurred, grinning to herself.

Asami chuckled again, leaning against the wall to hold Korra better.

Korra didn’t even care that they were sitting on the bathroom floor and that their friends were mostly likely, definitely making fun of Korra for getting sick. All that mattered to Korra was that she was with her girlfriend - seriously her girlfriend! - wrapped up tightly in her arms. If she didn’t know any better, she was almost sure that she -

“I love you,” Korra muttered sleepily, sliding one arm behind Asami’s back and the other over her stomach.

Asami took in a sharp breath, her grip around Korra getting tighter. Realizing what she had said out loud, Korra’s eyes flew open. Without thinking, she pulled herself out of Asami’s grip and stared at her, mouth open as she watched Asami digest what she had said.

“I’m sorry! It - it slipped out!” Korra exclaimed, shaking her head. “I was just thinking about how lucky I was to have you and I guess - I’m sorry!”

“Korra, Korra, it’s okay!” Asami assured her, grabbing Korra’s hand. “Really, it’s okay! You just - it took me by surprise, that’s all.”

Korra felt herself flush. She pulled her hand away from Asami and buried her face in her hands, letting out a deep sigh. So stupid, this was like the time she kissed Asami and then pretended she didn’t remember. Why was it that every milestone she and Asami had, Korra was drunk.

“Korra, why are you beating yourself up?” Asami asked her, scooting closer to Korra and wrapping an arm around her shoulders.

“Because I’m stupid,” Korra admitted, still not removing her face from her hands. “Because I’m fucking everything up.”

“You’re not fucking everything up,” Asami stated firmly.

Korra peeked up at Asami from between her fingers, watching as the other girl smiled softly at her.

“You’re not,” Asami repeated. “In fact, I don’t think I’d have this go any other way.”

Finally, Korra pulled her hands away from her face, lifting her head to meet Asami’s eyes. She asked, “Really?”

“Yeah,” Asami chuckled. “I mean, come on, Korra, you currently have two disaster bisexuals sitting on the bathroom floor discussing their relationship. Are you surprised?”

Korra let out a small laugh. “I guess not.”

“Plus, I was just thinking about how I love you,” Asami continued, grinning at Korra fully.

“What!?” Korra exclaimed with a snort. “Like, you were thinking that as I was vomiting my guts up?”

“Well, not right then,” Asami clarified. “I mean earlier in the kitchen. And while we were playing Uno. And when I was holding you just now, because I absolutely adore you to bits.”

She felt her cheeks heat up at Asami’s words, causing her to look away from Asami.

“So, yes, Korra, I love you too,” Asami said more firmly. “Dysfunction and all.”

“You really are too good for me,” Korra told her, resting her head against Asami’s shoulder.

“Nah,” Asami replied. “I think we’re equally good for each other.”

Korra grinned at that, lifting her head to kiss Asami’s cheek.

“I’d kiss you fully,” Korra said, resting her head on Asami’s shoulder once more, “but I don’t think you want to kiss me with vomit breath.”

Asami chuckled. “I mean, I wasn’t going to say it,” Asami teased.

Korra was about to retort when a loud banging came from the door, causing both girls to jump.

“Ladies! Please hurry!” Wu called out, his voice panicky. “I am about to burst!”

“Way too much information,” Asami stated, standing up slowly and holding her hand out for Korra to take. She lifted Korra to her feet with ease, holding an arm out to steady her before calling out, “Coming out, Wu!”

Together, Asami and Korra walked to the door, Asami opening it to reveal Wu doing a pee dance on the other side.

“Oh, thank you, thank you, thank you!” he exclaimed, shouldering past Asmai and Korra and shoving them out the door before slamming it behind them.

The girls exchanged a look before bursting out laughing, holding on to each other tightly as they laughed. Leave it to Wu.

“So, you want to join the others?” Asami asked, tucking a piece of stray hair behind Korra’s ear.

“Why not?” Korra asked, grinning. “Just, uh, don’t tell the others I got sick?”

“Oh, they’ll know,” Asami told her, pulling Korra towards the living room. “They won’t say anything, but, trust me, they’ll know.”

“Awesome,” Korra replied grudgingly, allowing herself to be pulled away by Asami.

And while they walked into the living room, everyone shot Korra concerned looks, but didn’t say anything. Instead of rejoining the game, Korra tugged at Asami’s arm, leading her towards one of the couches and pulling her into her lap as she sat.

“Hey,” Korra whispered in Asami’s ear as she wrapped her arms around Asami’s waist.

“What?” Asami whispered back, the corners of her lips twitching.

“Love you,” Korra told her, pressing a kiss to Asami’s temple.

“Yeah, yeah, love you too, you dork,” Asami replied, leaning into Korra.
