Work Text:
Something about being out in the sea fixing the boat by the docks reminds Bucky of the 40s. Oddly enough, he also felt comfortable taking off the extra layer he was wearing despite how much he hated his metal arm. Maybe it was the smell of the sea or the fish from the vendor nearby that reminded him of the life of the charming man in Brooklyn.
His thoughts were disturbed by the sound of Sam struggling to remove the gunwale from the boat. He was pretty sure that Sam has been trying to remove it for a good fifteen minutes already as he was huffing out in frustration.
Hiding the smile begging to break from his face as he watched Sam struggle, Bucky made his way to him and pulled the old gunwale with his metal arm in one try with an unamused look just to poke fun at Sam.
Sam’s eyes followed him as he lifted the gunwale, throwing it to the side. “Showoff”
Bucky smirked as he made his way back to his side and continued working.
They worked on the boat all afternoon and surprisingly made good progress. The sun was setting, and Sarah brought them beer for all their hard work before leaving the two to talk. Bucky, feeling like the flirt that he was back in his time gave Sarah a wink as she bid them goodbye, making Sam roll his eyes.
“You have got to stop flirting with my sister Barnes.”
“Where’s the fun in that?” Bucky smirks as he sipped the cold beer “Alright, alright, I’ll stop, but only if I get to flirt with the brother.”
Sam laughs as he rolled his eyes “God, you’re so annoying, keep that up and I’ll kiss you just to shut you up.”
Feeling brave, Bucky put his beer down and stood to invade Sam’s personal space “please, don’t stop on my account.” he smirked.
Sam’s breath hitched as Bucky’s blue eyes looked at him with mischief, he moved back a little and glanced down at the lips of the man in front of him.
Bucky let out a laugh and went back to his beer while Sam raised the beer he held back to his lips to hide his face that was starting to feel a little too hot for his liking.
“I guess I should probably head back,” Bucky said, taking one last swig at his beer “I've got an early flight, and I still have to look for a hotel room.”
Sam chuckled “Really? You’re putting me in that spot now?”
The smirk on Bucky’s face from earlier came back to his face “I mean I don’t want to impose.”
Sam rolls his eyes “You can have the couch, but again no flirting with Sarah or I’m gonna have the kids make you fish bait for the first fishing trip we do.”
Bucky lets out a carefree laugh, mischief evident in his voice "Like I said, as long as I get to flirt with the brother.”
“You’re a menace”
“Your menace” Bucky continued, feeling his heart beat faster. Sure he liked Sam, but he hasn’t done this in so long even with Steve.
“You’re lucky I like you” Sam laughs as he stands and puts his hand over Bucky’s shoulder as they made their way to the dock.
Bucky stopped in his tracks and puts a hand on Sam’s shoulder to stop him on his tracks “hold on, you like me? Like all of me, right?”
There it was, the insecurity that his metal arm held getting the best of him and putting the charming man to the back of the line again.
Sam bit the bottom of his lips with a laugh “yeah, all of you surprisingly including your brooding.”
Bucky’s eyes went wide as he felt his heart start to swell “even my personality?”
That made Sam laugh harder “I know I was surprised too.”
Bucky rolls his eyes at Sam. Sam was laughing at his reaction making Bucky let out an annoyed huff. Surprisingly he was far from annoyed, but he wanted Sam to shut up, so he did the first thing that came to his head, kiss him to shut him up.
