To Sakusa and Atsumu they thought everyone knew they were dating, they didn’t try to lead everyone on they just didn’t exactly say they were dating. There were several times that the team came close to finding out they were dating. The first was around the third-month mark:
The Team was having to block practice and it was bokuto, Hinata, and Adriah versus Atsumu, Sakusa, and Shion. Bokuto and Hinata being the little demons they are, were pushing Sakusa’s stamina. On a particularly strong cut shot from Bokuto. Sakusa landed on the ground, his right hand grasped tightly in his left. A time-out was called and everyone decided to take a break, and Sakusa pulled out the first aid kit and was fumbling with the sports tape.
“Omi-Kun yer doing it all wrong, just ask for help. Ya know ya should ask for help yer hands tremble when ya use small things,” Atsumu jogged over taking Sakusa’s hand and turning it over in his. The team just stared at them as they murmured to each other as Atsumu taped Kiyoomi’s pointer and middle finger together. Bokuto and Hinata exchanged very confused looks because when they even skimmed Sakusa’s shoulder on accident Kiyoomi refuses to talk to them for days. The whole team talked behind their backs for weeks.
The second was when they all went out to dinner at a soba noodle house in Tokyo after a big game. They were all exhausted, but Bokuto made the team come out with him and Akashi. Sakusa and Atsumu were sitting next to each other, hands intertwined under the table.
“I’m sleepy,” Sakusa huffs to Atsumu through his mask. Atsumu gives him a little smile almost saying with it ‘I’m sorry it will only be a little longer.’ Atsumu slid his free hand up to the back of Sakusa’s head right at the end of Kiyoomi’s hairline, massaging and scratching him soothingly. Akashi noticed first and being the least dense person here immediately knew they were dating. Followed by Akashi was Bokuto and Shion who just stared until the food was placed in front of them. Hinata and Meian both exchanged puzzled looks. They all were more confused because they weren’t hiding these acts, but the two hadn’t disclosed their relationship to the others.
The third and final time that confirmed their relationship was after a long day of grueling practice and a small conversation was struck up between Atsumu and Sakusa.
“My mom is expecting ya to come ya can’t chicken out because ya think she doesn’t like ya,” Atsumu says folding his and his partner’s towel. That got the team’s attention; they had been on edge recently trying to figure out Sakusa and Atsumu’s relationship.
“She does hate me. The first time we met she just pulled me close to her face and started squishing it. She said I was too skinny,” Sakusa huffed and tucked their water bottles into their respective pockets.
“No no that’s just mom stuff. I know ya aren’t used to it, but moms worry about yer health,” Atsumu laughs side-eyeing Sakusa. The team was very confused ‘why didn’t Sakusa know what a mom is like and why does Atsumu know that?’
“Atsumu I have a mom, she just sucks at being a mom,” Sakusa throws a dirty towel at Atsumu.
“Okay, but yer my mom’s favorite boyfriend I have had,” Atsumu said zipping up his bag.
“AH HA!” the whole team shouted pointing at them.
“What?” Atsumu asked sliding his bag onto his back.
“You two are dating,” Bokuto said triumphantly pointing at Atsumu and Kiyoomi.
“Yeah...Did you guys not know?” Sakusa asked also picking up his bag.
“No we didn’t, but I’m glad you two are,” Hinata smiles bouncing over to Atsumu.
“Did no one know? We have been dating for half a year,” Sakusa laughs taking Atsumu’s hand in his.
“WHAT!?” Everyone yells as they hand in hand leave the gym.
“Maybe I should call Motoya to make sure he knows,” Sakusa pondered as he walked with Atsumu.
“Ya haven’t told him? Oh, He is gonna be pissed,” Atsumu said leaning his head down on Sakusa’s shoulder.
