Summary
Finally, ten minutes later, they find him. Megumi’s seated on the tiny dock by one of the ponds, shoes next to him with his feet ankle deep in the water, phone buzzing noisily against the wood. Relief washes over him, grip on Tsumiki relaxing as she cries out to her brother and jerks out of Satoru’s hold.
But that relief morphs back into worry when Megumi turns to look at them eerily slowly, face completely blank. Even in the midnight darkness, Satoru can see the dried tear tracks on his son’s face.
And the bruises around his neck and across his cheek in the shape of handprints.

Summary
Everyone is born with a small pale mark on their chest that turns into a tattoo of a flower bud made of simple lines on the day of their sixth birthday, each with their own colors. Belonging with that flower, every person is born without a tamana - the name of their soul - and it has to be bestowed upon them by their soul's parental figure(s). That name is something that the parent(s) chose with great care and meaning, making the tamana something similar to a title.
Tsumiki grows up wishing for her tamana, but when her soulmark doesn't bloom, she decides that she doesn't need it to have a family.
Megumi doesn't care about soulmarks. However he does regret the consequences that not having them brought.
Satoru thinks soulmarks, soul names and the weight that people give them are pointless. Raising a pair of kids was 100% accidental and 100% his choice.
