Not like love or anything

Summary:

Ranmaru is an honest person, alright. He says what he thinks and acts on impulses.
He's also no fool. He'd knew if he felt more to the obnoxious brunet, alright?
So what if he's a bit overprotective of the smaller man...

Notes:

The following story is fictional. The characters belong to the Uta no Prince-sama game/anime series and their creators, Brocolli and A-1 Picture scenarists. The story may differ from the canon. I don't earn money from my writings, and they only ever have an entertainment purpose.

Work Text:

Ranmaru had not the faintest idea why he had exploded like a fucking TNT if the truth should be told. Sure, he was known for his low patience, and it wasn't so surprising that he let the anger get the best of him. Still, it shocked him a little bit.

It was so quick that no one really caught what happened. He didn't even remember what it was that the little fucker with the 'journalist' tag said. What was it? What was it that got him so mad?

Maybe it was not the words. Perhaps it was the look on Reiji's face, pain so visible in his eyes, shining so differently than usual. The older idol was always so cheerful, always masked his emotions so well with that cheshire grin of his. And now? Now he looked like he was about to cry. Ranmaru could swear that his lips quivered when he tried to come up with some neutral answer.
And maybe that was it. That was when the silver head man lost his temper. It was simply unacceptable for the brunet to look like a goddamn broken puppy.

There was a yelp... No. There was a muffled cry of pain that bastard deserved SO MUCH. The rush around him didn't even bother him as he turned around, ignoring everyone except for his brown-haired bandmate.

"R-ran-ran!" his face held so many emotions it kind of amused the other man.

"We're leavin'. Now." Not waiting for the answer, he put his hand over the other's back and pushed him gently towards the door before going out first. He didn't look back and didn't even slow down when he got a few steps ahead. He still heard Reiji's shaky breaths behind him.

"Ran-ran..." when the silver head kept walking, Reiji grabbed his hand. "Wait, Ran-ran!"

"What?!" he snapped but stopped. He sighed and finally turned to face him when the shorter man stayed silent. "Wha-..."

Suddenly, the more petite idol threw his arms around him and hugged him tightly, burying his face between Kurosaki's shoulder and neck.

"Thank you."

Ranmaru froze at first, but he just sighed and pulled the other man closer after recollecting his thoughts.

"The fucker had it comin'..." he mumbled, and Reiji laughed.

"Yeah..."

Playing with the brown locks of the messy hair, the younger one wondered why it felt so right, holding the other close. Why was he so comfortable around the clown?

"It's... It's not like I like you or anything. It's just that... You looked like you were about to cry, ya know, and I..."

"Sure. Whatever you say!" the brunet winked at him playfully, and Ranmaru frowned. That little... He sounded a little too confident, didn't he?!

Well, he still told the truth. It's wasn't like he loved the foolish man or anything... Or was it?
