Cherries and Ice Cream

Summary:

Leo and Calypso reward themselves with ice cream and cherries after a hot day on the job.

Work Text:

After fighting monsters for most of their teen life, Leo and Calypso were glad to ‘retire’. After Leo rescued Calypso from her island and they safely made it back to camp, Leo being rewarded as a hero. They’d flitted between the two camps, Calypso usually helped out in the infirmary but also enjoyed helping Leo and his siblings work on whatever crazy inventions they were making.

Leo’s experience with being a demi-god with no knowledge of monsters or his parentage had made him want to expand Calypso and his original dream of a mechanic shop/fruits and vegetables stand. Calypso had been happy to comply and they’d started their work as soon as they were ready.

Within the year Leo and Calypso’s was open for business and popular for demi-gods, mortals, and occasional mythical creatures. They’d chosen a pretty central location for their shop, around the Colorado, Nebraska, Kansas border, and thus it got pretty hot during the day. Leo didn’t mind it much, those fire powers really came in handy, but Calypso, being used to cool island breezes and cooling off in crystalline waters, was almost miserable some days

“Gods, it is so hot today!” Calypso complained during a lull in customers.

“I know Caly,” Leo shouted back at her from the mechanic part of the store, “Whose fault do you think it is? Apollo driving to close to the surface? Aeolus not giving us any winds?”

“Leo! It’s not safe to talk like that! What if it’s Zeus, keeping all the storms from us? He’d blast us both!” Calypso warned. She did this a lot, warning Leo to not bad-mouth the gods, but Leo couldn’t seem to help himself.

Later that day, the shop was finally closing up and Leo joined Calypso in the semi-air conditioned store.

“What should we do tonight?” Leo questioned, “We’ve been wanting to watch that movie, but there’s also the option of tinkering.”

“Whatever sounds good to me,” Calypso replied, knowing darn well that Leo was going to pick tinkering over a ‘boring’ movie any night.

So of course they spent the evening tinkering on half-finished projects Leo had started. As they were winding down for the night, settling on the couch and just being together as they talked about crazy customers. It couldn’t have been past 8:30 but the two were almost ready to turn in for the night, tired from the heat and activities. Before they could get too exhausted Calypso got out the ice cream from the freezer. Both of them loved ice cream, resulting in a huge supply of it in their freezer. Calypso scooped out two medium-sized bowls while Leo got out the condiments.

“Are you seriously doing that again?” Calypso asked, referring to the time he wanted charry ice cream but they didn’t have any so he used the cherries and cherry juice they had to make his own.

“Yes, I am seriously doing that again. You should try it.” Leo insisted, plopping a few cherries into his bowl.

“We can just buy cherry ice cream, Leo. You just make a mess with cherry juice, and that stuff doesn’t come out.” Calypso insisted, sticking with plain vanilla.

“Well, lucky for me my girlfriend has magical clothes cleaning powers that can get anything out. Cherry juice, mechanical oils, fire burns, you name it.” Leo boasted. Calypso rolled her eyes. It was true, her magic did come in handy to clean out the stain on Leo’s clothes.

The two walked out onto the porch to eat their delicious treat. Watching the world around them without a care in the world. A monster could’ve attacked them at any moment, but none did. A half-blood could’ve come crashing down the road, but the scene stayed serene. It was just Calypso and Leo, sitting on their porch, eating ice cream.
