Lions and Tigers and Bears

Summary:

Piper and Jason fight about what animal would be the cutest as the size of a cat. Other characters support other animals, etc.

Work Text:

The ‘game’ had started off just fine, with no swords or threats. But it quickly dissolved from the seven+essential friends asking each other random questions to groups of people teaming up whenever they agreed in order to fight whoever disagreed with them. Of course, the question that had started Heroes of Olympus Civil War had been: “What animal would be the cutest as the size of a cat.”

“Obviously it would be a lion!” Jason immediately said. “Imagine that cute little mane and roar!”

“You’re insane Sparky,” Percy rolled his eyes, “Bears would be cute if they were small. Little fluffy ears and tiny teeth.” In response to his statement, he got a scoff. Annabeth was sitting across his lap and she stared at her boyfriend.

“Are you serious? A bear? You are such a seaweed brain!”

“Both of you,” Piper added, giving a pointed look to Jason. “Lions, really Jason?” She and Annabeth shared a look, “The correct answer is obviously tiger!” They said in unison. Will Solace, the one who had asked the question, intervened.

“All three of those animals would be really cute!” When he was met with four glares of -you really think THAT would be cuter than THIS?- he backpedaled “Who wants to ask the next question?”

“Too late sunshine,” Nico said, standing up to go stand by Piper’s chair. “You’ve started a war.” Immediately everyone stood up and took place by the team they supported. Annabeth got Piper, Nico, and Calypso, Percy got Frank and Will, Jason got Hazel, Reyna, and Leo.

“That’s not fair!” Percy protested, “Bears only got three people? Seriously!”

“Bears are scary and lame weirdo!” Jason stated.

“Lions would be weird! They’re supposed to be big!” Percy retorted. While Percy and Jason fought like little kids the ‘Tiger Squad’ just smiled. No one could deny the adorabelness of a little fluffy kitty with stripes and a small roar. The way it’d try to be fierce and swoosh it’s tail wouldn’t be menacing but cut beyond belief. Piper eventually stepped between the sons of Jupiter and Poseidon. Using her charmspeak to get them down from threatening each other with swords and battles to the death (to see who’s more powerful) to threatening to T.P. the other’s cabin.

“Let’s just calm down alright?” The daughter of Aphrodite led people back to chairs, still separated by preferred animal. “Now, Percy” She turned to him, “Jason is right bears wouldn’t be cute at any size. And Jason… Lions would still be ferocious and dangerous when they were small. That’s why Tigers are the cutest at any size. But especially the size of a kitten.”

“Piper! I can’t believe you’re supporting tigers!” Jason was incredulous.

“Well, lions wouldn’t be any better! ‘Cute little mane’? It’s the king of the savanna! Not a household pet!” Piper retorted.

“You didn’t even come up with the tiger idea! Annabeth was the one who started that group. At least I’m trying to be creative.”

“A) Me and Annabeth had the same idea, we said it at the same time. B) Stop trying to be creative. Not when it comes to cuteness.”

“Woah woah woah!” Now Percy was the one trying to calm down Piper and Jason. The group had been watching them go back and forth, feeling a little awkward, until Annabeth nudged Percy a little too hard to mean anything else. “Let’s all calm down. It was just a stupid question that Will asked.”

“Hey!” Will and Nico shouted indignantly. However, Percy ignored them and focused on the couple in front of him.

“Now let’s take a deep breath and apologize to each other, all of us.” The group grudgingly stood up and made rounds, shaking hands and apologizing.

“Sorry, Pipes. Guess I got a little carried away, you too Percy.” Jason started.

“Same here, it wasn’t just you.” Percy replied before moving on, probably/hopefully to his glaring girlfriend.

“I’m sorry too. I mean, I guess it’s not your fault. Nothing as pretty as you can make something beautiful.” Piper complimented.

“I know that that’s kind of an insult but, you too Pipes!”

Soon the group waws gathered around once again, laughing as if nothing had ever happened. Because sometimes that was just how it was with half-blood.
