Work Text:

It seemed like seconds before the world went black and you’d fallen to the ground. Before the fall you could only feel pain in your left leg from the blow of a particularly strong shadow, while the last thing you heard being Crow calling out your codename.

When you regained even the smallest bit of consciousness, the pain had grown, making you shoot up and try to grab at your leg. Unfortunately your hand never came in contact as someone had grabbed your wrist. You quickly look over to see Akechi standing beside the table you’re laying on, dressing your wound.

You soon come to realize you’re in a safe room in Maruki’s palace, someone had carried you over from the battle. You didn’t see Joker or any of the other thieves so you assumed Akechi had brought you by himself.

“Thank you, Crow.. But we really must get going, the others are probably waiting-” you try to get up but are quickly stopped.

“No. You need to be at 100% if we are expected to get through Maruki’s palace. A wound like this made you lose consciousness, I wouldn’t be surprised if you can’t put much pressure on this leg at all,” he stops and pokes your left leg with his clawed finger. You hiss. “So no, I’ve informed Joker that after you woke up, we’d be leaving. You need to rest.”

He moved to support you while you attempted to get up once more, pulling your arm around his shoulder and putting his other arm around your waist. You lean most of your weight on him, too exhausted to carry yourself. He moves his hand so he holds yours more properly and begins to pull out his phone to teleport you both to the front of the palace.

Once you leave the metaverse you slump against Akechi a bit harder than before as your breathing becomes irregular. Akechi’s quick on his feet and brings you somewhere hidden from prying eyes and sits you down against a wall.

“(Y/N)? Can you hear me?” Akechi sounds panicked, but your eyes are beginning to blur and it’s hard to see. You nod and he moves his arms to your back and under your knees to lift you. Before your loss of consciousness once more, you hear Akechi’s unsteady heartbeat against your ear beating faster than you’d ever imagine.

When you awoke for once more, you were in a bed, but you didn’t hear your roommate's obnoxious music through the thin wall dividing your rooms. The comforter felt softer. When you attempted to sit up you felt a hand on your shoulder pushing you back down softly.

You looked over scared to see your upperclassman looking down at you with something akin to relief in his eyes. Akechi looked like he hadn’t slept in days, but with what he and the others were going through, you couldn’t blame him.

“You’re alright. You’ve been asleep for a few days,” he turned and when he faced you again he was holding a cup of water out for you. “Takamaki and Okumura stopped by your apartment and brought you clothing and a few things they knew you liked.” When you lifted the blanket you saw you were no longer in the uniform Mitsuru had given you, nor was your evoker on your hip as usual. You were in your normal sleeping attire. You looked up once more and looked around the room. “Ah, if you’re wondering where we are, this is my apartment.

You don’t believe Akechi had ever spoken about his apartment to anyone at all since you’ve met him, let alone bring someone directly to it. Perhaps he had mentioned it in passing, but he’d never offered to bring someone. Your eyes widened before going back to normal as your head flopped back against his pillow once more.

You sigh and turn your head towards Akechi, who is already looking at you. “Thank you, I really appreciate the help.” You try your best at a smile, which in turn causes Akechi to snort and smirk before sighing and looking towards the window in his room.

“I don’t know what I’d do if I didn’t do what I could to help.” he murmurs, you think that if it hadn’t been completely silent in the room, you wouldn’t had even heard him.

“I-” the moment is quickly ruined when a loud knock resounds from the front door and Ryuji’s voice echoes throughout the apartment, along with the rest of the thieves shushing him. You watch Akechi’s back as he walks over to the front door with furrowed brows before a hyper Futaba comes and jumps at you, encasing you in a hug.
