"Now we just have to hope the Council can be as open-minded."
"She's so much younger than I was expecting," Laura said. "Director Carter's files did say the Red Room started training their assassins as children, but..."
"It's one thing to read it and another to see it," Clint said. He slipped his hand into Laura's. "I know."
"If S.H.I.E.L.D. approve this she's still going to be an assassin. Is it really any better?"
"She deserves a chance to choose for herself. If I can convince Nick."
"I think he picked you for this mission for a reason. And he trusts you. You won't need to convince him."
"I hope you're right. Will you be okay?"
"She can't be a worse patient than you," Laura said and Clint laughed. "Perhaps you should introduce us first?"
Clint nodded and opened the door to the room. Sitwell was still stationed in the corner with the Black Widow restrained in the bed.
"Natalia," Clint said. "This is Doctor Laura Barton, she needs to look at your injuries."
"You trust her?" Natalia asked.
"Unquestionably and with everything," Clint said. He looked up to meet Laura's eyes and smiled at her. "You're in the best hands possible. I need to talk to Agent Fury but I won't be long."
Clint squeezed Laura's shoulder as he left. She nodded and he smiled again.
"All right, Natalia," Laura said. "First I'm going to need to ask you some questions."
