Work Text:

you don't really remember what went wrong, but all you can remember is your breathing was unsteady and you couldn't see straight and you were spiraling. things felt like they couldn't possibly got worse, so you searched rapidly for someone to reach out to. searching through your phone contacts, you stopped when you saw a very familiar name that brought you joy even reading it, tapping your tear-soaked phone screen to call the man you'd called your best friend. only a few rings got through before they stopped abruptly, hearing a very comforting voice on the other line.

"hey! what's goin' on?" your friend, ranboo, excitedly hummed as he picked up your phone call.

you almost felt bad since he seemed so excited, but you knew for a fact he'd be okay with something like this. through tears you choked on and a quivering voice, you managed to get something out of yourself. "hey ranboo! sorry to, uh, bother.. god. ranboo, please.. it's gotten so bad. please, i just.. need you right now."

he took almost no time going into 'comfort' mode. "hey, hey, it's okay! it's gonna be okay! do you wanna come over? you can stay on the call as you come over, so i'll be here with you the whole way. hey, everything's gonna be okay, alright? i'm here. it's okay."

for some reason, this made your heart feel like it was going to explode into a million pieces, the pure emotion inside you tugging at your heart in a happy-sad explosion that rocked your whole body. "okay.. just.. don't leave, okay? please stay."

"of course, i'm here. i'll be here for as long as you need me, promise. you'll be okay."

getting onto the nearest bus, you stayed on call with ranboo, him talking through everything you could remember. hearing him support and comfort you through all this just made you feel this way you'd never felt before. nothing romantic, it was just a pure sense of euphoria through a wave of hurt, bringing you to a spot of stability. eventually, you arrived at the stop near his house, getting off the bus and trotting towards his home. you told him you were close, so when his house entered your vision, you recognized a tall, caramel-haired figure standing on the front porch, the lack of light in the sky making it a little hard to see his features. you hung up the call, nearly running to him. he stepped onto the front lawn, you jumping to hug the tall boy in front of you, feeling his body heat against yours making you sigh in relief, yet choke up a little more. after sitting there in a hug for a little, the two of you quietly navigated into his house and to his room, taking a look around brought you a small smile

"so, you wanna lay down? sit on the bean bags? what do you need right now?" he offered, fully prepared to just give you a night of pure relief of stress.

you smiled, tears pricking at your eyes as your heart swelled with emotion. "i.. just.. could we lay down for a few? i just need someone near me and.. yeah. i just need that right now."

the two of you walked to his bed, laying down next to each other, you placing your head on his chest. the two of you had formed a bond, fully open to physical affection and understanding what gave each other comfort, so he was definitely not objecting to this. you talked through your feelings a little more, him giving his best advice, trying to keep you calm and focused on the positive aspects, as he'd usually do. you felt the sad feelings seemingly dissipate from your body, being placed with warmth and exhaustion. you and ranboo were both wearing baggy hoodies and comfy clothes, so the two of you eventually dozed off. before you fell asleep, though, his words repeated in your head.

"hey, it's gonna be okay."
