Universe: Canon, after Dean dies and they're both in Heaven

Work Text:

Dean smiles at the man next to him. He can barely believe that Castiel, an Angel of the Lord, is laying next to him, smiling right back.

Dean thinks about the night he lost Cass. The worst night of his life. When he’d almost lost him for good. He wished more than anything that he had said it back. After he died, Dean did just that. He found Cass and told him how stupid he was for thinking Dean didn’t love him too. For thinking that was something he could never have. But here they were, laying in bed, in Heaven, just smiling at each other.

“Cass,” Dean suddenly gets serious and his voice lowers to almost a whisper.

“Yes, Dean?” Cass furrows his eyebrows.

“I need you to promise me something.”

“Of course, Dean. Anything,”

“I need you to promise that you’ll hold my hand whenever I get scared.” Cass looks at the hunter sympathetically.

“Yes, Dean, of course I will.” Dean nods slightly and reaches down to grab Cass’s hand. Suddenly on edge, Cass looks around.

“What’s wrong, Dean? Why are you scared?” Tears start brimming in Dean’s eyes as he whispers.

“I’m scared if I let your hand go, you’ll disappear.” Cass feels his breath hitch for a moment before he wipes a tear off Dean’s cheek and kisses him softly.

“I’m never going to leave you again.” He rests their foreheads together. “You will never lose me.”

“Promise?” Dean practically whimpers.

“I promise.”
