The morning sun shining through the window wakes Roger's up in an empty bed, he patted the other side of his bed. Yu Zhong's place is cold, he must've gone an hour's ago. He yawned as he gets up to the bathroom, brushing his teeth, and wash his face.
He goes down making his way to the kitchen, gets himself some coffees. The coffee is placed on the counter, and Roger pulls out the bread from the breadbox, slicing it before he put some margarine on it. By the time the bread's in the toaster, he turns on the tv as he sips his coffee.
Surfing through the channel he didn't surprise one of the news have his lovers mentioned. Yu Zhong is always at public attention, especially in the business world.
'Sir Yu, are you by the chance have dated someone?' one of the Reporters asking
"What's with the silly question." Roger snort, take out his bread from the toaster. Take a huge bite.
Yu Zhong smile, charming 'Yes I have.' he answered shortly and then leaves. Roger blushed, huffing.
He is not ready for this relationship to go public, yet. He glads Yu Zhong respects it regardless, even though he looks eager to tell everyone about it.
Roger turns off the tv and finishes the bread. He looks at the clock, it's 10 am already. There is nothing much to do today, he takes a walk outside. There's newspaper lying on the ground.
"Did they ever seen a fuckin mailbox?" Roger groaning, take the newspaper
He takes a look at the newspaper, another day of politics problem in the west as always. Then he looks at the date and shocked.
—June 19th– "Damnit." Today was his one year of dating Yu Zhong.
Yu Zhong always showered him with a gift and Roger never have anything in return. It's not something he likes to do, and he doesn't really like spend his money either. Yu Zhong is easily pleased, one time on his birthday Roger just bought him a pack of beer because he forgets. Yu Zhong doesn't even drink beer, but he loves it regardless. Just like a kid get a gift from Santa. All-day talking about how happy he is receiving something cheap.
He should have gotten something nice for Yu Zhong, perhaps if they had some free time later this night he could take him out to dinner. It's their day anyway, so it must be nice to take dinner outside once in a while.
He takes out his wallets and just found a few amounts of money, of course. It's not enough to take dinner outside, he could've brought him to the Ramen restaurant near the station but after all what Yu Zhong give him. He doesn't have a face to take his date at the cheap Ramen Restaurant.
"AAAAAAGGggHh...." Roger ruffles his hair in annoyance.
Something nice, but what.
The phone home ringing, he walks in the house. Take the phone "With Roger here, Who is it ?"
"Sir!!! Aaaaah help meee...." it's Masha, what is she going up to again.
"What ?"
"The printer is broken!! Boss gonna kill me!!" Masha whining, Roger could tell she almost crying.
"What happened? Why're you at the office anyway, it's a holiday"
"I should print out the report from yesterday to Boss, I forget," Roger pinch his temple, sighing "I thought I already print it out but I haven't, but when I try to turn on the printer it doesn't work!!!" Roger put the phone away from his ear.
"Did you already plug in the cable ?"
Silence. "Masha ?"
"Ehe, I haven't..." She chuckles nervously, Roger just growling in return "Well, thank you for the help, Sir Roger!"
"Yeah," Before he hangs up, he thinks maybe could have some help "Masha before hangs up, can I ask you something ?"
"Sure!"
"Did you... Have anyone... someone you date?" Roger rub his nape
"Yes! I have, she's the best girlfriend I ever have!" Masha giggles
"Is that so?"
"Yes! Absolutely" Roger clears his throat, look at the clock. His fingers tapping the tables nervously.
"Well, what did you do for celebrating your special day together ?" He asks, hearing the printer through the phone.
"She usually makes us something! My favorites food, or she buys pizza if she's too lazy to cook something. Well I didn't do anything but sometimes I bought her beer"
"That's sweet, thanks" Roger could think of something already.
"Okie, happy to share. Anyway, why did you ask this? It's rare for you to ask my love live~"
"I-... I just curious that's it" He doesn't want Masha jinx about him dating someone.
"Alrighty then, I should give the report right away!" After that, she hangs up.
Roger take his phone and search a recipe to make mooncake, one of Yu Zhong's favorite food. It's enough time before he goes home from work. The ingredients also available already, he just needs to buy some at the market.
He wrote down the ingredients he should buy, and the equipment he doesn't have in his kitchen. Put on his sweater, and storm off to the market.
The golden honey is founded, he just needs peanut oil. After a minute of searching at each rack, Roger found it. He lucky enough to get it, seems like it's just left one. The mold for mooncake was hard to find, he finally gets it at the shop owned by an old udon seller near the alley.
He goes home in rush, pulling up his sleeves and put on a kitchen apron. The first thing he did is soak the azuki beans in the water, leave it for two hours.
While he waiting, he makes the dough in a large mixing bowl, adds the golden syrup and peanut oil. Now because he doesn't have lye water, whatever that is. He must bake baking soda for an hour.
He must wait for both of the main ingredients, great. Took a lot of time so maybe he could watch some tv.
—Beep! The oven sound wakes him up, Roger falls asleep on the couch. In a hurry, he takes out the baking soda slowly. It's shrinking, he pours it at the bowl and adds some water. Add the sifted flour to the bowl and knead until the flour is well incorporated and no streaks remain, it was about 3 minutes.
"Ah–" Roger spilled a little bit of the dough on the floor, he glad he uses the Apron. But it's sticky so it would be a real pain in the ass to clean it.
He heard someone on the outside, open the door "I'm back, Roger" it's Yu Zhong.
SHIET! Roger takes the bowl but then he knocks the flour and makes a whole mess.
"Roger?" Yu Zhong stopped when he looks at the Roger holding the bowl and the flour sack.
"Roger wha–"
"Why are you back early!?!" Roger stands stiff trying to cover what he did.
Yu Zhong tilts his head "The meeting is canceled today," he walks closer peeking "Are you baking something ?"
"No. —Uh yes..." His eyes darting away blushed.
Yu Zhong laughing as he pressed his body at Roger from behind looking at the dough "What are you making ?" His hand rested at Roger's shoulder
"M-mooncake"
"... That's my favorites, you don't even like sweet, why did you want to make it ?" Yu Zhong smirk
Here come the questions, Roger takes a deep breath "J-just... maybe I make something nice," he mumbling, his voice is getting lower as he speaks "since you give me a lot of things..."
Yu Zhong laughs, bright and breathless, Roger could feel his breath tingling at his ears.
"You're surprisingly sweet Roger" Yu Zhong kiss his ears. Roger can't help himself shivering, shove the younger man away.
"I'll not get this done if you bothering me any further."
"Fine, but don't forget to keep the dough covered in plastic before baking it," Yu Zhong said as he walks to their room.
"Yeah!" Roger sighing, "Well, goodbye surprise." he said as he leans on the counter, covering his face with his hand.
After few hours of making the Mooncake, Roger has finally done. Yu Zhong facing his Laptop, doing some of his paperwork again. That man never rests.
"Yu Zhong, have a taste" Roger called
"What ?" Yu Zhong look at Roger confused
"The Mooncake, it's done"
Yu Zhong let out huffing and walk towards Roger "You don't expect me to just eat this right ?"
"There's something wrong ?"
"There's nothing wrong, you did good," Yu Zhong take a box of plastic from the drawer and put the Mooncake in it "We called this 'hui you' it makes the Mooncake softer"
"How long does it take? Few hours ?"
"Two days"
"What?" Yu Zhong stored the Mooncake in the fridge and smile at the Roger
"Yeah, we wait this for two days"
Roger groaning, didn't expect it would take that long to make one, particularly cake. He closed his eyes and pinch his temple "I'm sorry"
"What for ?" Yu Zhong sounds concerns
"I didn't give you anything, in our day" Roger mumbling blushing slightly
Yu Zhong takes his moment to realize what day is this. He laughed and kiss Roger, it's just a short one but Roger calmed down.
"You didn’t have to get me something Roger, I didn’t even get you anything.” Yu Zhong replied sheepishly.
"It’s fine, you always give me a bunch of gifts, this is something I’ve wanted to get you for some time now." Yu Zhong smiled up at him as he took his hand.
"We haven't eaten anything for dinner," Roger didn't realize it's night already, "Ramen ?"
Roger snorts, finally his eyes meet the orb purple eyes "Ramen it is."
