Work Text:
Suichi Iguchi,
By the time this letter reaches you, I am already dead. Thank you for letting us dance together.
Forever yours,
Vinnie Terrio.
Vinnie sat on a rock near Downtown City, the heat from the sun warmed his cold skin as he waited for his partner to meet him. The sun reached its peak as Spinner descended down the stone path leading towards the park. He spotted the smaller gecko and made his way over to him. Lacking the warmth, Vinnie opened his eyes to see Spinner crouching over the rock he was laying on.
“Spinner! I was starting to think you wouldn’t show up.” he said with a frown. Spinner simply shook his head and held out his hand.
“You know I wouldn’t do that to you, Vinnie.I just got held up with some… work.” Vinnie gently climbed up his arm and perched himself on Spinner’s shoulder.
“Well, I guess we just have to make the most of our time then.” he said with that bright smile of his that Spinner adored. He responded with a small smile of his own.
The taller lizard strolled along the path, making idle chatter with his smaller companion. Occasionally he pointed out an interesting looking tree or a brightly colored flower. They crossed a small wooden bridge that went over a small creek, to which they paused for a moment and admired the semi-clear water rushing below their feet. Vinnie hopped off his spot on Spinner;s shoulder and landed on the railing of the bridge.
Spinner watched Vinnie with confusion. He pondered voicing his question out loud, but he decided against it when he saw Vinnie shimmy down the railing and hop on some rocks.
“Come, join me.” Vinnie coaxed, the miniscule hairs on the palm of his hand fell as the water droplets bounced into his outstretched fingers. Spinner noticed how the water that pelted onto the rocks landed in his hair, it was almost mesmerizing, the way his hooded eyes bore into Spinner’s brown ones.
“Whatever you say, Vin.” he said as he hopped over the railing and softly landed in the ater a few meters away from Vinnie.
He sat on his knees and lowered his gaze to where Vinnie stood on the rock. He placed his finger in Vinnie’s palm and watched as the smaller lizard placed a gentle kiss on his long nail, causing Spinner’s cheeks to heat up, a small pink blush reflecting his surprise.
“Vinnie… you’re soaking wet…” Spinner carefully took off his scarf and wrapped it around VInnie, then picked him up and placed him in the grass nearby. This, in turn, caused Vinnie to blush as well.
Suddenly, a spotlight appeared, which was weird enough in itself, but it was midday, and there were no street lamps around. Freeing himself of Spinner’s scarf, Vinnie quickly slid on the tapping dancing shoes he always carried with him in case of moments like this, and began dancing. Spinner watched in awe as the smaller lizard wiggled his body around, spotlight following his every move.
A blood curdling shriek passed Vinnie’s lips. He looked down and saw blood dripping down his chest hairs. With a fearful gaze, he looked up at Spinner, who was in tears.
“Vinnie.. No. No this can’t be happening! I was so careful…”
The spotlight was still shining on Vinnie, making the moment even more dramatic. Spinner crouched down and gently cradled him in his hands.
“We’re gonna get you help Vin!” he said through heavy tears and choked breaths. “Then- An’ then we’re gonna find who did this to you. Stay with me bae!”
Vinnie reached his hand up and beckoned Spinner closer, then took his face in his hand and gazed into his lover’s glassy eyes.
“Thank you.” he whispered, then his breathing stopped.
Spinner shook his head and yelled, refusing to look at Vinnie’s lifeless body.
Later that day, he dug a small grave and placed a small headstone under Vinnie’s favorite tree. Placing a bouquet of flowers on the mound of dirt. He stuck his hand in his pocket, finding a piece of paper inside. He unfolded it, and tried to make out the words written in blue crayon. It was definitely Vinnie’s handwriting.
How did he know Spinner’s real name? He hadn’t told Vinnie, for the sake of keeping him safe, but now… he was starting to doubt himself. Was Vinnie hiding something from him? Spinner gently folded the paper back up and placed it in his pocket again. This crime wouldn’t go unpunished. He would find whoever did this to him and make them pay.
