Work Text:
Nursey winces as he hears his phone go off and immediately slaps his hand down on it as if it was was an alarm clock. It takes a few seconds to realize what he did and a few fumbles to dismiss the alarm.
His eyes adjust to the light filtering through the gaps in the curtains, and it takes him a few moments to register that he's in Dex's room instead of his own across the hall. Smiling groggily, he squeezes the arm around him and hears a grumble from behind.
“Mornin’” Nursey mumbles, pressing back up against Dex’s chest. It was a Saturday; Dex didn’t have work today. “Sleeping in?”
He feels Dex nod against his back, followed by a quick peck on his shoulder.
Nursey closes his eyes, the warmth of their tangled limbs under the sheets and the overwhelming contentment settled in his chest making it hard to not doze off again.
It's only been a couple of weeks since he and Dex finally stopped dancing around the unspoken thing that's been hanging heavy in the air the entire two years they’ve been roommates in their New York apartment. And yet, it already feels like the most natural thing in the world to be in his arms like this in the early morning.
Dex still found it hard to be affectionate. Yeah, they make out and go on dates now, but the moments in between where they're just existing are still hard to navigate. He can see it when Dex is second-guessing something he's about to say or when his hand still falters before holding Nursey’s.
But Nursey doesn't mind. This thing is new. Transitioning from being best friends to being that and dating was weird. He gets it.
“Need to go, Dex,” Nursey says, though his eyes are still closed and his thumb is still tracing Dex's knuckles. “Have to meet with my agent.”
“Noooo,” Dex whines in a sleep-rough voice, pressing another kiss onto Nursey’s skin.
The mornings are different, though. In the mornings, Dex's leg is wrapped around Nursey’s hip and lips are pressed against his shoulder. In the mornings, there's always a mumbled “five more minutes” as Dex pulls Nursey closer. In the mornings, Dex lets his guard down.
Nursey opens his eyes and brings Dex’s hand up to his lips, kissing the back of it. “Sorry, Dex. Really need to go.”
He carefully peels away from Dex, sitting up and making a move to leave the bed, but as soon as he does, he feels Dex’s hand wrap around his wrist
“Dex-”
“Baby, c’mere,” Dex mumbles.
Nursey freezes, turning around to face him. “What?”
“Just a-” Dex yawns before tugging at his arm again. “A lil bit longer, mmyeah?”
His freckled cheek is squished against the pillow, his eyes are still closed, and there's a blissful look on his face that makes Nursey’s chest ache. “No, Dex, wake up, what did you-”
Dex groans, letting go of Nursey. He lifts a finger and - probably aiming for Nursey’s mouth and missing terribly - places it on his chin. “Der, baby, sssshhh.”
Nursey gaped at him, cheeks burning and heart feeling like it could combust. A disbelieving laugh escapes his mouth and comes out as an elated giggle that makes it sound like he’s a 13-year-old with a first crush.
William “can't even call Nursey by his first name without feeling embarrassed” Poindexter is really throwing a Der, baby out there and acting like it's not a big deal? Nursey wasn't sure whether he wanted to push him off the bed or kiss him.
"Dex.”
Eyes still shut, Dex groans again and opens his arms. “Later, baby...Just c’mere…”
And, god, who can say no to that?
“We are soooo circling back to this when you’re fully awake,” Nursey says, grinning hard as he settles down back next to Dex. This time, he’s facing him, and resting his forehead against his. “Say it again. Call me baby again,” he tries to keep his voice teasing but knows he misses it by a mile.
“You’re so fucking loud, baby,” Dex says, the annoyance in his voice hard to take seriously when his words are getting eaten up by another yawn and his arms are already working to pull Nursey closer.
Nursey snorts and kisses Dex on the nose. “I’ll take it,” he mumbles as he scoots down to bury his face in Dex’s chest.
He can be a little late. It’s chill.
