Work Text:

Reki ran between his bedroom and the bathroom checking that he looked good and he had everything together. His mom called him out and as he stepped into the Livingroom she cooed and brushed off his shoulders.

"You look so handsome! I bet langa will think so too." She was excited and her voice hid non of it. Reki smiled shyly as he continued to smooth out his hair. It was apparent he had tried to smooth it out by straitening it and using product but there were still pieces that stuck up and fell beack into his face. "Did you want help with your bangs?" She asked while walking him back to the bathroom.

"Yeah, if you wouldn't mind," He almost cut himself off with how fast he was talking, "I tried to use some hairspray but it just wouldn't hold some of it unless I sprayed to much it got crunchy." He looked into the mirror while still fumbling with the stray hairs. His mom reached into one of the draws grabbing a comb and a clip. She hummed lightly as she carefully combed through Reki's hair. It was thick with hairspray and she made and effort to be gentle once she got all of the pieces that were causing issues pulled back she used the simple clip to keep them in place.

"I think it looks nice like this and this way it wont get in your face," Reki grinned at his reflection before noticing that he had forgotten his bowtie and rushed back to his room. His mom chuckled while she watched him scramble to collect everything before Langa showed up.

--- meanwhile at langa's apartment---
Langa was looking in the mirror trying to figure out which part of his outfit felt like it didn't feel right. His mom walked into the doorway to ask him if he was almost ready to go. She saw that Langa seemed uncomfortable. He was fidgeting with his jacket and tried straightening out the sleeves but his shoulder drooped and he tilted his head to the side slightly.

"What if you just tried the outfit without the jacket?" Her voice was quiet but it startled Langa slightly. He looked back in the mirror and took off his jacket showing his navy blue vest. He felt better but before he did anything else his mom came in and rolled the sleeves of his button up shirt just below his elbows. She smiled at him before she said, "Is that better?" Langa looked back into the mirror putting his hand on the vest almost as if he were trying to make sure it stayed flat before he nodded.

"Thank you. Oh! I have to make sure I grab the corsage, where did I put it?" He looked around nervously. His mom smiled while she held back the urge to chuckle and his uncharacteristic frantic actions. She grabbed the corsage off the table and brought it to him and he let out a light sigh. He looked at his jacket and decided he would bring it along just in case. He quickly went to his room to grab his phone off the bed and decided it would be best to leave as soon as possible since he didn't want to make Reki wait for him. He checked that he had his wallet, skateboard, overnight bag, and phone. He looked at his mom for a moment.

"Is there anything else I'm missing?" Before she could get anything out he gasped and ran back to his room before he emerged with his ticket in hand. He let out a heavy sigh trying to calm himself. "Okay, I think I'm ready to go now." His mom nodded to him as she grabbed her keys. Before walking out the door they both said goodbye to his dad.

On the way there, Langa and Reki exchanged texts.

As they pulled up to the house Langa could see Reki looking out his front window. As soon as his mom parked he jumped out of the vehicle and met up with Reki. They immediately hugged and then pulled away before looking at each others outfits.

"Geez, man. Do you know how to do anything besides look good all the time?" Reki turned away as he tried to hide his blush. He rubbed the back of his neck nervous as to how Langa would react. Langa had a light smile as he grabbed Reki's hands and intertwined their fingers.

"I really like your hair," Langa spoke slowly like he was trying to let Reki take in the statement completely. Reki looked at him for a moment and lead him into the house. Reki's sisters ran and greeted them telling the two how nice they looked. While they two of them spent some time together their moms finally got to know eachother.

"Hi, I'm Nanako. I'm Langa's mom, it's so nice to finally meet you," She smiled as she was invited inside by Reki's mom. She held her camera in her left hand so she could shake with the other.

"I'm Masae, Reki's mom, and I'm so glad you could make it." She reached out and shook Nanako's hand excitedly. She walked her to the living room and sat on the couch motioning for Nanako to join her. They sat and chatted for a moment. Nanako began to worry that Masae was unaware of Reki and Langa being in a relationship. She didn't want to accidentally out him to his mom if he wasn't ready. Slowly the conversation became a bit awkward as the two of them danced around the topic. Each of the two concerned that the other may be unaware of their sons dating.

"So, what do you think of their relationship?" Nanako asked hesitantly.
"I think they are very good to each other, and I hope they can stay close for a long time," Masae chose her words carefully not wanting to possibly want to give the 'wrong' idea. She finally broke. The conversation had gone on for about 3 minutes and it was too much to deal with, "Okay, do you think they're together?" The words spilled out quickly almost as if they dam holding them back had just broken down.

"Okay so you do know about them," Nanako heaved a massive sigh of relief knowing she wouldn't have to be careful about her words. The two joked momentarily before moving onto getting to know each other more personally. While they talked Langa was pulled into the Livingroom by one of Reki's little sisters. She had him sit down on the couch. He leaned forward to set his hand on the table. Reki followed them with another sister and sat next to Langa.

"Did you want to have matching colors?" Chihiro looked up at Langa and Reki. Langa paused for a moment.

"What if we did opposite colors," before he could finish Reki got excited and chimed in, "Oh! but what if we did each others usual color, like I'll do blue and you do orange?" Langa nodded. He would almost always agree with Reki's ideas, but he couldn't help it. He loved how happy Reki looked when he came up with something and most of his ideas worked really well. Nanaka ran out of the room and came back with both blue and orange nail polish. She handed the orange to Chihiro and opened the blue bottle. They both carefully painted the boys' nails while they talked about some of the things that had happened last time they went out skateboarding. Their moms watched them for a bit.

"You have such sweet children, and they seem to get along so well." Langa's mom smiled at the girls.
"I'd say they have their fair share of little disagreements and fights but they do their best to get along," Reki's mom chuckled. A moment later another girl had come out into the living room. She waved to Ms. Hasagawa.

"Oh, hi! You must be Langa's mom; I'm Koyomi," She greeted Nanako and sat next to her mom. Nanako greeted her and asked her a few basic questions about school to get to know her.

Once enough time had passed that both Reki's and Langa's nails had dried Reki asked their moms if they were ready to take pictures since they figured it would be best to get them done before the sun went down. They all got up went into the front yard. Nanako grabbed her camera off the table and followed them. Masae gave them a basic pose for the first picture and before they took the picture Reki remembered to remind Langa.

"Smile," Reki whispered. Langa blushed lightly, took a breath, and lightly smiled at the camera. The camera clicked twice and their moms looked at the picture together cooing over how sweet they looked. The process repeated about ten times before they had collectively agreed they had enough. Langa and Reki were holding hands again when Langa checked the time. They had about an hour and a half before they had to get to the dance. Reki got a burst of energy when he remember he had a project he was working on in the garage that he had yet to show to Langa. He pulled him to the garage andsat him down on the shop stool next to his work bench. He ramble while explaining the purpose and construction of his project. Langa couldn't keep up with everything Reki said, but he really loved listening to him talk and watching him get more and more excited when he talked about the things he was passionate about. Reki's mom brought out some food for them to eat before they needed to leave.

When the time came, Reki and Langa got into Langa's mom's car. They both checked that they had everything they needed. They had both pinned on each others corsages and grabbed their skateboards. They promised they wouldn't get too dirty even though they wanted to ride back to Reki's house on their boards. They both held hands quietly on the way to the prom and when they arrived Langa's mom left them with a few simple parting words.

"Enjoy yourselves, and be safe." she waved goodbye to them after seeing them check that they still had everything. They walked inside handing their tickets to a woman sitting at a table with a box full of tickets. Reki lead Langa to a table they could set their boards and bags next to. They muted their phones and walked out to the dance floor. A simple pop song was playing and Reki laughed while he brought Langa close to have him mirror the dance he was doing. Langa laughed with Reki as he watched how excited he was. Even after everything he knew Reki would almost always have energy to spare. They laughed and danced for a few more pop songs until a slow song came on. Reki slowed and nervously reached for langa's hand. Langa carefully intertwined their fingers and placed his hand on Reki's waist. They had practiced dancing once or twice after finding out that neither of them had any experience but it wasn't enough for them to feel too confident. While Langa had never felt confident enough to lead when practicing; the moment when Reki looked a bit shy gave him everything he needed. He smiled at his boyfriend and felt like nothing else and no one else matter. They were enjoying a dance as much as any other couple. Reki had been looking into Langa's eyes and for a moment it was perfect.

"I really like the color of your eyes and I cant remember if I've ever told you," Reki's voice came out soft but it was just loud enough for Langa to hear. Langa kissed Reki's forehead. They both felt so special and it was even better that they could feel that way together. They slowly swayed to together as the song ended and decided to take a break for a bit. They made their way back to the table and got drinks on the way. Langa reached for Reki's hand and Reki immediately link their hands together. Sat back for a bit before going to dance again. They spent the rest of the time on and off dancing. At one point one while they were dancing they failed to notice the photographer going around and taking pictures until they had their own picture taken. When the music had finally ended they saw their classmates leave and head for the after party. Reki had told Langa about it ahead of time and they decided they would go to out skating around town instead. S had been canceled for that night so they planned ahead. Reki and langa grabbed their things and head to the bathroom. They changed out of their nice clothes and texted their moms that the dance had ended and they would be home in a few hours.

"I'll take the lead if you don't mind, I have something I want to show you," Reki smiled at Langa as they stepped onto their boards. Langa happily followed; he wondered what Reki was planning but was excited about the surprise regardless. It was only a few minutes before Reki told Langa he wanted him to close his eyes and let Reki guide him. Langa trusted that Reki wouldn't do anything and followed his instructions. Reki grabbed his hand and lead him around a few turns. He was allowed to open his eyes after he was instructed to sit on what felt like a bench. Langa looked and saw that they were sat at the top of a hill that overlooked the city. He felt the air leave his lungs as he stared in awe.

"It's so pretty," Langa huffed quietly. Reki squeezed his hand lightly. Langa turned to look at him. It was dark and a bit cloudy but the moon still shone rather brightly combined with the city lights below Langa could see Reki's soft expression. He reached a hand up to cup the side of Reki's face. He was so happy to be able to say that Reki was his and he was lucky enough to have someone as kind and caring as Reki in his life. There was a brief pause before Langa couldn't wait anymore.

"Can I kiss you?" Langa breathed out. Reki responded with a simple "yeah" and leaned into Langa. It was soft and slow. Langa felt when Reki set his hand on Langa's thigh. He shuddered lightly at the feeling and he could felt Reki breath out something just shy of a laugh. Langa's breath hitched in his throat while his brain scramble over the sensation. He could taste the sweetness of the sodas they had at the dance but there was a mild lingering of Reki's toothpaste from brushing their teeth before they left. Reki pulled back after a moment; he huffed lightly and Langa could see the light bluhs that worked up to REki's cheeks. Even though it was dark Langa knew it was there and it made his heart throb when he thought about the fact that he was the only one who got to make reki like that. Reki stood up from the bench, still holding Langa's hand, and pulled him up off the bench to follow him.

"Come on, lets head over to the skate park!" Reki laughed a bit grabbing his board and waiting for Langa to grab his. They set off together and as they picked up speed down the hill Reki still carefully held Langa's hand. He didn't want to lose him but he also didn't want to be the cause of him wiping out at top speed; Langa had no plans on letting go either. Once they made it to the empty skatepark, Langa took the lead. He made it over to the halfpipe they sat at when one of them was upset but the other wasn't sure how to help. Reki followed him up the halfpipe and sat next to him again. A notification came in on Reki's phone; it was his mom.

No rush, but I just wanted to check in that everything was okay.

It's all good, see you back home in an hour or so.

thank you, ill see you then

Reki set his phone next to him again. Langa let go of Reki's hand and stood up. Reki almost wanted to reach op and grab hold of his hand again, but instead he followed Langa's lead and set up his board to go down next to Langa. Reki could almost hear Langa counting down in his head. Thye took off at the same time going back and forth on the halfpipe then moved around the park onto rails and jumping over ramps. They skated occasionally laughing when the other messed something up and making jokes at each other for nearly an hour and a half. Langa failed to notice a rock that had gotten knocked into his path before it got jammed under his wheel as it forced his board to a rapid halt.

Langa was launched off his board and Reki ran over to him after seeing how hard he fell. Langa lifted his left arm and turned it over; he winced when he saw how much he got scraped up. Reki grabbed his bag off the halfpipe they were sitting on and pulled out a first aid kit. Reki always came prepared and it made Langa's head spin at how considerate he was toward him. He carefully applied the antiseptic carefully before putting a larger patch bandage over the upper part of langa's arm that had received the most of the fall. He added a smaller bandage to the ball of Langa's hand and placed a light peck to the bandaid when he was finished. Langa felt the heat rising on his cheeks. Reki grabbed his other hand and pulled him to his feet; he looked over him checking that there was nothing else that needed immediate attention.

"I think now's a good time to head back," Reki smiled at Langa and put the first aid kit back into his back. Langa nodded and grabbed his bag before he picked up his board and intertwined his fingers with Reki's. They walked back home instead of skating so they could enjoy the moment a bit longer.
They both sent texts to let their moms know they were on their way back and would be home in a few minutes. They exchanged a few comments about how happy they felt that they got to go to prom with the other. Soon enough they had made their way back to the house. Reki lead Langa into the kitchen for a snack. Langa hadn't mentioned being hungry but Reki knew that he could almost always go for some food after skateboarding. Langa sat on the floor next to Reki and leaned against his leg. Reki pulled out a bag of popcorn and tossed it into the microwave. He leaned down slightly to pet the top of Langa's head. The microwave beeped and Reki carefully pulled out the bag by the edges, opened it, and poured the contents into a large bowl. He gestured for Langa to follow him as he walked to his room passing his mom in the process.

"I'm headed to bed, sleep well boys," she spoke before she head into her room and lightly shut the door behind her. They said good night and slipped into Reki's room. Reki set the bowl on his bedside dresser and pushed back the blankets on his bed. He grabbed some sweatpants and a different sweater out of one of his drawers and Langa grabbed a loose t-shirt and some sweatpants that nearly matched Reki's. They both quickly swapped clothes and Reki laid on his bed. He opened his arms for Langa to come lay with him and almost immediately Langa was there. Reki reached over langa and grabbed the popcorn bowl and set it next to them as he propped himself up. He leaned back against the wall with Langa laying his head on Reki's chest. Reki pulled out his phone and opened a playlist of skating videos as he set up his phone against the folds of the blanket. They lay there watching skating videos and eating popcorn while Reki had his arm holding Langa against him and Langa laying comfortably on Reki's chest. they eventually fell asleep, the bowl empty, both of their phones off and charging, and both Reki and Langa holding onto each other. They slept peacefully through a quiet night.
