More Unexpected Business

Summary:

It's 10 years later. Jensen and Jared are in for another surprise. Can be read separately but makes much more sense if you read Unexpected Business first as things will make more sense.

As always, un-beta'd so all mistakes are my own.

Chapter Text

“Sophia, quit winding up your sister please!” Jensen said as he ran around the kitchen, trying to get things organised.

Eva stuck her tongue out at her twin.

“Dad! She started it” Sophia sing-songed.

Jensen pinched the bridge of his nose. He had a banging headache and wasn't in the mood for this right now. Despite their occasional arguing and chaotic life, he wouldn't change his girls for the world.

“Right! I don't care who did or said what, one of you finish it please. If you are done with your breakfast, go and brush your teeth, the bus is picking you up for school in 10 minutes!”.

As the twins went running out of the kitchen, Jensen tried his best to try and put things away and get their packed lunches sorted for school.

“I've found Eva's gym kit” Jared said as he wandered into the kitchen and put it down by his daughter's school bag.

“Great” the executive said as he cleared the empty bowls of cereal from the kitchen table.

Jared put an arm around his husband. “Jensen? Is everything okay? You've usually got everything under control. You seem to be getting yourself all worked up this morning for some reason. This is not like you! Chill for a second, okay?”. He hadn't seen his husband this uptight at home for a long while. Routine was everything to him and he always had it under control and he thrived in chaos.

Jensen exhaled loudly. “I know. I don't know”.

“Loretta will be here in a bit, she'll get everything cleaned up again like she always does. What's going on?” the younger man asked.

“I'm tired and I've got a killer headache” Jensen admitted. His husband was right, he prided himself on organisation and routine and he was always on the ball. He never allowed himself to get so worked up like he was now. He suddenly felt dizzy and quickly sat down on one of the chairs until the feeling passed. When he saw the concern on his husband's face he forced a smile. “I'm fine”.

Jared didn't look convinced. “I'll go and sort the girls out, make sure they're all set. Just stay put. Leave the mess, leave the dishes. Just relax”.

A few minutes later, the twins re-appeared and Jensen and Jared kissed them both goodbye as they headed out to catch the school bus. Despite their wealth, they wanted to keep their girls fairly grounded.

Jensen smiled sadly as he waved off his girls. “I can't believe how grown up they are now. They're not our babies anymore”.

Jared laughed. “Nuh. They'll always be our babies, right? Our perfect little family”.

“Wouldn't change anything for the world” the executive said with nostalgia. “Right, another day, another dollar, right? Let's get going”.

“Woah, wait! Are you sure you're okay? You look a little peaky” Jared asked his husband with concern as he put his hand over his forehead to check if he had some sort of fever.

“I'm fine, jeez quit pestering me, okay?” the older man said as he grabbed his briefcase and headed out of the door.

Jared shook his head, sighed and followed. At least one thing hadn't changed over the years and that was his husband's stubbornness.

Jensen had only been in work for an hour and he was already struggling with trying to stay awake and he couldn't figure out why. As if on cue, the door to his office opened and his husband appeared with his morning cup of coffee. “Oh, yes, I love you so much right now. I need my caffeine fix, stat!”.

Jared put the inky black coffee down on the desk. “So I've just finalised the contracts for the radio station. Did you want to check through them before I send them off?”.

“Jared? You're my business partner, you have an even share in the company now, remember? It's only been that way for like 5 years! So I don't need to sign off on everything that you do anymore. I trust you” Jensen said as he grabbed the cup of coffee. He wrinkled his nose up at smell before taking a sip. “Oh God, that's disgusting. What the hell have you done to this? Why didn't Chloe make it?”.

Jared took the cup and took a sip. It was delicious. “Chloe did make it. There's nothing wrong with it Jensen. It's perfect”.

“Tastes like it's off to me. Can you get me another one? I need caffeine, I'm struggling to keep my eyes open right now” the executive said as he resumed typing out an email before sighing and getting to his feet hastily. Another dizzy spell assaulted him and he grabbed onto the edge of his desk to right himself.

“Did you get dizzy or something?” Jared asked, concerned again.

Jensen shook his head. “It's fine. I stood up too fast that's all. Just need a bathroom break.....again...”. Things started to go around in his head, the way he had been feeling 'off' recently but he had no idea why.

Apparently Jared was thinking the same things. “Jensen? You don't think that you're, you know, pregnant again?”.

“No! Come on Jay, I'm 44, I can't have another baby at my age. It's probably just stress. We've been really busy recently securing some big contracts” Jensen said, trying to convince himself. He couldn't shake the nagging feeling that something wasn't right and he was feeling exactly the same as he was when he was pregnant with the twins. Rubbing his hands across his face, he felt sick as he looked at the coffee in front of him. “Crap”.

Jared tried to stay calm for both of them. “Okay. How about I run down to the pharmacy and get you a couple of tests. That way we'll know for sure. Maybe we are just jumping to conclusions here. Just, stay here, there's one just around the corner, I'll be back in 10-15 minutes. Just hold off on the bathroom break for the time being”. He grabbed his wallet from the desk and headed out.

The executive exhaled loudly and deeply and looked disgusted again at the coffee on his desk. Maybe it didn't taste that bad after all and he was just being paranoid. He took another sip just to test. It tasted even worse than the first sip and he retched violently as he spat it back out. Putting the lid back on it, he threw it in the trash and took the trash can outside his office. He didn't even want it anywhere near him it repulsed him so much. An email pinged up on his computer, drawing his attention away from everything else. As he finished replying, the door flew open again and Jared appeared, flushed and out of breath. “Okay, er, that was quick!”.

“I wasn't sure which ones to get, so I just got 3 different ones. Are you up to the challenge?” Jared joked.

Jensen got to his feet and snatched the paper bag from his husband. “Yeah I really have to pee, I'm not joking. Maybe it's just my prostate or something, you know, or my hormones changing? It's got to be....we are just jumping to conclusions...”.

Jared raised an eyebrow. “Okay let's find out”.

“Yeah”. As he headed off to the bathroom, Jared started to follow him. “No! That's just too weird. Stay here will you?”.

Jared paced around the office and tried to busy himself. When his husband re-appeared, he went straight over to look at the test. “What do they say?”.

“I don't know. It's not been 3 minutes yet. It's been a while since I've had to take one of these but I can't imagine it has changed too much”. Jensen put them down on his desk and went over to open up the window as he suddenly felt warm and needed from fresh air in his lungs.

The younger man could sense his husband's apprehension. “Jensen? Would that really be the worst thing in the world if we were having another baby? Do you not want that?”.

“I-I don't know. I love our girls so much, you know that. I just figured if we were going to have another baby, we would have done it a bit sooner than this seeing as we're done with the diapers and kindergarten stage. I'm not getting any younger either, I'm just worried about my age that's all. Our lives are perfect and in a way I don't want that to change” the executive admitted.

Jared smiled sadly. He went over to his husband and put his arms around him. “I know. But Jesus Jensen, it's not like you're a pensioner yet. You're still young enough to get pregnant, so you're young enough to have a baby just fine. And you've been saying how sad you are that the girls are growing up too fast. Remember the day we brought them home from the hospital?”.

Jensen smiled at the memory. “Yeah, I do. I didn't want to leave them. I wanted to watch them sleep all night. I was scared that if I left them for a second then something would happen to them”.

“And then, their first birthday party? We can have all of that again. I mean, I know that maybe being pregnant wasn't a bundle of laughs, but you got through that, you'd get through it again!” Jared reasoned.

“I didn't hate being pregnant last time. Not the whole time. We may just be over reacting here, we don't know for sure yet”. The older man put his hand on his stomach and remembered how incredible it felt when he could feel the babies moving inside of him. “Anyway, it's time”. Just as he was about to go and check on the tests, the phone on his desk ran. He picked it up. “No, it's not a good time right now” he said calmly. When the person on the other end of the phone protested, he raised his voice. “I said it's not a good time right now dammit! I'll ring you back!”. He slammed the phone back down on the receiver. “I can't look Jay. You do it”.

Jared approached the desk very carefully and then glanced at the tests. All three of them gave a very clear, definitive answer. “Well, I guess we're having another baby”.

“Okay then. I guess I need to ring the doctor for an appointment. I'm guessing Dr Lane is still around” Jensen said calmly, un-nervingly calm. He went over to the window and inhaled in the fresh air deeply, this time more rapidly. “Jared? I swear, if it's twins again then I'm going to divorce your ass!”.

“Supposing it's triplets?” Jared said jokingly.

“Then you better start digging your own grave for your funeral” Jensen ran his hand through his hair gingerly. “I'm not even joking about that!”.

Jared tried to suppress his laugh. “How do you feel? I mean, how long have you felt like this for? I'm just trying to work out, when we, you know....”.

“I've no idea. I've not felt 100% for about a week now, but that's not really much to go on. Plus, I don't even remember the last time that we- I mean, apart from last week and I don't think it works that quickly. We've been so busy with everything else”. The executive tried to cast his mind back.

“Oh, maybe the night when the girls went on their sleepover in Chloe and Jimmy's house? But that was a couple of months ago, right? Man, we were so wasted that night. Talk about making the most of the kids being away” Jared joked.

Jensen smiled. “Yeah, that was a good night. Very good- twice, in fact, right? We've still got it! But we used protection though, like we always do. Did we?”.

Jared smirked. “I- think so. But we definitely did when you got pregnant with the girls. What's done is done now anyway. We'll be fine. We might be a little rusty, but things couldn't have changed too much in 10 years, right?”.

The executive relaxed a little more. “You're right. Can you ring Dr Lane's office, see if she's still there and if we can make an appointment to see her?”.

“Yeah, sure thing”. Jared watched as his husband walked out of the door. “Where are you going then?”.

“I'm going to go throw up. So it begins” Jensen said as he quickened his pace, the taste of coffee still lingering in the back of his throat.
