You’re The Best

Summary:

Fluffy Marcanne punk concert fanfic!

Work Text:

Anne loved the way Marcy talked. Anne loved the way her face would light up when she’d show Anne a new song. Anne loved Marcy, and Marcy loved music. Anne was determined to do anything she could to make Marcy happy. She smiled as she pressed ‘order’ on her computer for the tickets. Marcy would be so excited. Anne loved seeing Marcy excited.

Anne pulled out her phone and called the other teen. Marcy answered shortly. “Hey MarMar, wanna hang out?” She heard a frantic voice from the other side of the phone. “Right now?!” pause, “Uhh sure! I just have to finish a few things first.” Anne smiled. “Great, come over when you’re ready.”

Anne walked over to her mirror and glanced at herself. She was so close to being exactly who she wanted to be, only one more thing to embrace. She pulled her curly hair into a ponytail and walked into her living room to wait for Marcy.

After a while, she heard a knock on the door. Anne jumped out of her seat to greet the nerdy girl. “Marcy!” She exclaimed. “Anne!” “Lets go to the park.” Marcy smiled. “Alright!”

They sat on the swings smiling at each other. “So… I may have done something.” Anne confessed. “What’d you do?” Marcy asked curiously. Anne looked down at her shoes. “You know that band you keep talking about?” Marcy’s face looked puzzled. “Chicken Choice Judy?” She guessed. “No, the other one.” Marcy thought for a moment. “The Green Canons?” Anne’s face lit up. “Yeah that’s the one!” Anne was nervous, but continued. “So I saw online that they had tickets for sale… and I bought two of them, for us.” Marcy’s smile grew wide. She stood up and tackled the older girl in a hug. Anne’s face was flushed. “I can’t believe you’d do that for me!” Marcy giggled. “You’re the best.”

You’re the best was a phrase Anne had used many times. It was a subtle replacement for I love you. It was the only thing that really emphasized how important Marcy was to Anne without being too obvious. Anne was giddy to have the phrase returned in her favor. Suddenly she felt Marcy’s hands grab hers. “Gahh I’m so excited!” Marcy said gripping on to Anne’s hands. “It’s no big deal.” Anne said shyly. It was in fact, a very big deal.

Anne was restless when she laid down to sleep that night. She was so close to having everything she could ever want. She couldn’t believe her luck of having Marcy in her life. “Anne!” She heard her mom call from the other room. Her mom walked in the room with a bad expression on her face. “Did you spend $30 on concert tickets without asking me?” Uh oh. “Why would you think it was me?” Anne’s mom looked at her dumbfounded. “You’re an only child, and me and dad didn’t do it.” Anne smiled nervously. “The dog did it?” She chuckled. “We don’t have a dog…” Anne’s mom sits down at the edge of her bed. “Listen honey, I’m not mad, you can still go, you’re 17 after all. Just be safe, and stay close to Marcy.” Anne smiled. “Thanks mom.” “You’re still paying me back that $30.”

Everyday Anne got more excited. She was excited about the band of course, but she was mostly excited to spend time with Marcy. She wanted to see Marcy’s eyes light up when the band came on stage. She wanted to see her dorky dance moves as the music blasted in the background. To Anne, Marcy was the best.

“Mom go to your room!” Anne shouted frantically. “What why?” Anne’s mom asked. “Marcy’s almost here, shoo!” Anne’s mom sighed. “Keep your phone on.” Anne nodded. The doorbell interrupted Anne’s franticness. She opened the door to see Marcy in a way she’d never seen before. Black eyeliner smudged along her eyes, a t-shirt that read “The Green Canons”, big black platform boots, and Anne’s favorite part, silly bandz. “If Sasha was here right now she’d say I look ridiculous. “You look adorable!” Anne reassured. Marcy chuckled nervously. “Well you look so punk rock with your fluffy bunny hoodie and pink socks.” Marcy rebutted. Anne laughed. Marcy always smiled when Anne laughed.

“We’ve arrived! How fun!” Anne said. “Let’s go in so we can be in front.” Marcy interlaced her hand with Anne’s and pulled her along. There were only a few people in the room so they got in the very front row. Marcy started stimming. “I’m so so excited!” Anne smiled. “You’re the best.” Marcy said once again. Anne blushed hard. “You’re the best.” Anne said back. “I know.”

The band was over, Anne and Marcy had a blast. Marcy cheered louder than anyone else in the room. Anne was overjoyed. She had made Marcy happy, she loved making Marcy happy. She loved Marcy. Anne was feeling more confident than ever, and grabbed Marcy’s hand. “Come on, let’s get home.”

Their hand stayed together for the next 10 minutes. “Annabanana, can we rest on that bench for a second.” Anne nodded. Marcy sighed as she sat down on the bench.

“That’s what you get for wearing platform boots for a 30 minute walk.” Marcy said. “You don’t deserve pain, ever.” Anne said seriously. Marcy smiled with sad eyes. “Thanks.” Anne couldn’t stop staring at her. “Goddamn, it’s kinda cold out here.” Marcy giggled nervously. “We should huddle for warmth.” Anne joked. Marcy wrapped her arms around Anne’s waist. Anne breathed in surprise. Anne placed her hands on the top of Marcy’s head and gave her a few soft pats. Anne could stay like this forever. Anne poked Marcy gently on the cheek to get a rise out of her. Marcy shot up in surprise. “Hey! You’re the worst!” Marcy laughed. “I thought I was the best.” Anne grinned smugly. Marcy looked at Anne’s face closely. “I think I love you.” Marcy said, staring directly into Anne’s eyes. “Do you now?” was the last thing Anne said before she felt her lips collide with Marcy’s. It was soft, and long, and perfect. “I love you too.”
