Work Text:
On a Thursday afternoon you get a call from your mom. You groan, you did not want to talk to her.
“Are you going to answer that?” Wanda says. You are sitting on top of her on the couch while you watch a sitcom. Natasha was there too, stroking your hair only stopping when she hears your phone ring.
“It’s my mother,” You say with another groan. You and your parents did not have a good relationship. It started right when you were born, they would say degrading stuff to you and tear you down. They always said it in a way that would sound okay to others, but to you it sounded like they hated you. They never really wanted you. Your brother, Nate, had told you one day that you were a mistake. You cried yourself to sleep that day after you asked your parents about it, they confirmed what your brother had said to you without a beat in between. They wanted you to stay with them and sabotage your chances of getting away from them, until one day Tony Stark came to your house and took you away to become an avenger. You were 18 when it happened and you haven’t talked to them since, it's been 10 years. Wanda and Natasha have heard bits and pieces of your past from Tony and you, but they didn’t know how bad they actually were. Natasha grabs your phone and hands it to you. You sigh and answer it.
“Hi mom, you're on speaker,” You say, a little annoyed.
“Could you take me off please?” You hear her say on the other end.
“No, I dropped my phone and the volume doesn’t work,” You lie to her.
“Funny how you always break things,” She says, you roll your eyes.
“What do you want?” You say ready to end the conversation.
“Your father and I want to come and visit you and your girlfriends,” She says.
“Since we never got an invitation from you, which was very rude by the way, we raised you to be better,” You suppress the urge to groan.
“How did you even find out that I have girlfriends?” You ask, it’s not like they go on the internet or anything.
“I was at the store in the checkout line and saw you and two redheads on the front cover,” She says.
“Oh,” You say.
“So we will be there tomorrow at 9 a.m. I do hope your manners are better when we get there,” She says.
“Goodbye,” You say, hanging up. You flop yourself back down onto Wanda and put your hands over your face. Natasha stokes your hair and Wanda gently takes your hands into hers and takes them off your face. They see the most adorable pout on your face and smile down at you lovingly.
“It’s going to be okay baby. Maybe they want to start fresh with you,” Wanda says.
“Yeah and maybe I’ll learn how to breath underwater,” You say sarcastically.
“Maybe Wanda’s right Y/N, maybe they want to build a better relationship with you,” Natasha says. You sigh.
“Maybe. I guess I’ll give them a chance,” You say with another sigh.
“Come on we got to be up bright and early for tomorrow,” Natasha says. You get up from Wanda and walk back to your room with them. You three get ready for bed, you are the first to get under the covers. You stare at the ceiling wondering how tomorrow will go, and what their intentions are. Wanda gets in next to you and wraps her arms around you. She lays her head on your chest.
“Everything will be fine baby,” She says. Natasha comes and gets in on the other side of you and lays her head on your shoulder.
“Yeah baby, it’s going to be okay. Just let us take care of everything in the morning and you can sleep in,” Natasha says.
“Thank you,” You say to them. You wait for them to fall asleep and eventually fall asleep yourself.
You wake up cold and alone. You look at the clock 8:59.
“Shit!” You say throwing off the covers and jumping out of bed. You pick out a pair of ripped jean shorts and the first top that you can find. You run down the stairs tying your hair up. You run into the kitchen.
“I’m here!” You say out of breath.
“Hello Y/N,” You hear your mom say. You turn around and fake a smile as you see your mom and dad sitting on the couch.
“Hello,” You say to them.
“Is that what you wear around here? Couldn’t you be decent enough to cover yourself up?” Your dad says.
“Hello to you too,” You say sitting in between Wanda and Natasha on the opposite side of your parents.
“So are you going to introduce your girlfriends to us, or are you going to be rude?” You mom says.
“This is Wanda, Wanda my parents. This is Natasha, Natasha my parents,” You say with a sigh.
“Hello, it’s nice to meet you,” Wanda says.
“Hi you can call me Nat if it’s easier for you,” Natasha says.
“So tell me Y/N how did you guys meet?”
You were surprised that they wanted to know how you met your girlfriends, they never accepted you when you were living at home. They would always tell you to stop shoving your lesbianism down their throats. Which you never once shove anything down their throats, you kept it between you and your friends. The only way they would find out is through reading your texts and DM’s and then they would get mad at you for talking about it. Your mom always said to you that she wanted a better relationship with you, but in order to do that she had to accept you. She told you once that she was homipobic and you knew she was mad at the time but she always acted like a homipobic whenever you would even scratch the surface of the topic. They told you to stop shoving your lesbianism down their throats, but all they did was shove Christainity down yours. Before you found out you were gay you were a Christian. You went to church every Sunday morning and youth group every Sunday night, but you never felt like you belonged. You still were trying to be a Christan and a lesbian at the same time, but one day your mom told you you couldn’t be both. She made you choose and you chose being a lesbian. She got mad at you and that’s when they started shoving it down your throat. They quoted bible verses at you whenever it matched the subject, they would listen to nothing but Christain music whenever you were in the car. Every conversation you had with your mom would eventually come back to God somehow. You felt like you were suffocating everytime you were in the house. They got you a Christian counslor one time and when he said he was okay with you being a lesbian you suddenly stopped going to him.
“Y/N, you are being very rude to us,” Your father says snapping you out of your past.
“Sorry. Well since I’ve been here, which was the day Tony came. When I got here I was introduced to everyone including them,” You say.
“Yes I assumed so, he meant how did you guys get together?” Your mother says.
“Well after I broke up with Lindsey Wanda was the first one there for me. And from there we were inseparable, I don’t really know exactly what day we became official. And when Nat came into our relationship it was after a bad nightmare she helped me and the morning after we made it official, April 23 2021 that is our ‘we made it official’ date,” You say to them.
“Interesting,” You mom says. You talk more about your time with the avengers. You avoid the subject of you being little because you don’t want them knowing. You talk for a while until it’s time to eat.
“Wanda and I are going to go get the food ready,” Natasha says.
“Do you need help?” You ask a little desperately.
“No baby, you stay out here with your parents,” Wanda says. They stand up and leave. You sit and look over at your parents. Frowns on both their faces.
“How could you do this to us?” Your dad asks.
“Do what?” You ask.
“Become a lesbian, you ruined our lives. Do you know what people say about our family because of you?” He says.
“I mean it is bad enough that you’re gay let alone have two girlfriends,” Your mom says.
“Honestly could you be more of a whore?” Your dad says.
“Please stop,” You beg. Starting to feel yourself slip.
“Honestly, can’t you get some therapy?” Your dad says.
“I mean no wonder you are a mistake, I bet you had to beg them to be your girlfriends. You’re not pretty enough for them,” Your mom says. You can’t take it anymore, you drop into your little state. Your lip wobbles and tears start streaming down your face.
“Would you stop acting like that?” You dad says.
“Stop being such an ungrateful brat,” Your mom says.
“Mama,” You say loudly. Wanda rushes in and sees you in tears.
“Baby girl?” She rushes over to you and picks you up. Natasha comes after and rushes over to you.
“Baby girl what’s wrong?” Natasha asks worried. You point your finger at your parents who are looking at you in confusion.
“Mama? What is that some kind of sick kink?” Your dad says angrily.
“Hey,” Natasha says standing between you and your parents.
“I will not let you talk to her like that, for your information the trauma that you caused her during her childhood affected her and now she’s a little,” Natasha says. Her fists are clenched tightly.
“And who are you to tell me what I can or can’t say to my daughter?” Your father says raising his voice.
“You lost that privilege the moment you stepped foot in here. I will not let you hurt her anymore,” Natasha says. You look up and see Wanda’s eyes glowing red.
“Mama, can you puts me down?” You ask her. She puts you down on the floor. You walk over to Natasha and stand in front of her. You hug her tightly and big now and guide her towards Wanda. You turn around and step towards your parents.
“I think you need to leave,” You say to your parents.
“Yeah, not without you, I will not let you be living with these disrespectful bitches,” Your dad spits out, grabbing your arm harshly. You see Wanda’s eyes glow red. You put your hand up to stop her from doing anything.
“I got this,” You say to her.
“You can degrade me, and shove christianity down my throat, and say all the mean things you say to me, and tear me down with your words, and tell me I am a mistake all you want, I can take it, but you will not talk to my girlfriends like that ever again. Now I suggest you let go of me,” You say starting to feel your anger bubble up.
“Or what?” You dad says.
“Or you are going to be very sorry,” You say to him. He scoffs and starts to drag you towards the door. You let your anger flow to the spot where his hand is on your arm. It lights on fire and he instantly lets go screaming. He runs over to the faucet and runs his hand through cold water. You watch him sigh in relief.
“Friday, tell Bruce to come down to the living room,” You say out loud. Bruce shows up a couple minutes later.
“Will you wrap my fathers hand please and then have them escorted out by Tony, he’ll know what to do,” You say to Bruce, he nods and tells your mother to come to the kitchen with him.
“Goodbye, and don’t ever think of calling me or coming here again,” You say to them both. You walk to your room knowing Wanda and Natash are following you. You hold it together until you close the door to your room. You start crying and Wanda and Natasha hold you, they keep you from falling on the floor. You bail you eyes out into Natasha’s shirt soaking it with your tears. They hold you till you stop crying.
“You okay baby?” Natasha asks. You nod yes.
“That was very brave of you baby, we are so proud of you,” Wanda says with a smile. You look down at your feet.
“Hey,” Wanda says softly, taking your chin in her hand and lifting your head so your eyes meet hers.
“We are your family now. Tasha and I. We love you so unconditionally and we always will. We don’t care that you are a mistake. You are the best thing that could ever happen to us and that is not a mistake,” She says. You nod and hug them again.
“I love you too,” You say.
