Hawks woke up to thrashing beside him, he looked over to see Dabi thrashing around with a panicked expression.
“Hey hey Dabs your okay your safe your with me,” Hawks said in an attempt to wake Dabi up as well as calm him down. After a few minutes Dabi shot up in bed still panicked,he turned to Hawks rubbing his thumb as his breathing became more calm and less panicked.
“Kei pretty bird your ok?” Dabi asked, seemingly examining Hawks for any signs of injury specifically for burns. “Yeah I’m ok I’m right here perfectly safe,” Hawks responded running his fingers through Dabi’s hair.
“I know a nightmare when I see one do you wanna talk about it? Y-you don’t have to of course if that would be too much,” Hawks asked fully expecting to hear an I’m fine and have it be shrugged off until next time but what happened next surprised him.
“Yeah I think it would do some good to talk about it,” Dabi said, taking a deep breath before starting to explain. “It was the same flashback as usual you know being dragged into the training room and being pushed far past my limit, but then something different happened there was a flash and then I saw you and h-he hurt you and I-,” Dabi cut himself off with a sob as he buried himself in Hawks chest. Hawks placed a kiss on Dabi’s head as he sobbed into Hawks whispering comforting phrases into his ear as flashbacks from his horrific childhood. After a bit Dabi calmed down and released himself from Hawks grasp. “Thanks for that pretty bird I really appreciate it,” Dabi said, resettling on the bed.
“Of course baby anytime,” Hawks replied, placing a soft kiss on Dabi's forehead. Soon they both fell back asleep and there were no more nightmares in sight.
