    It’s only blood.

    He’s been shot at before, he’s been through this more times than he can remember, he knows the drill.
    But then why does it feel so odd, why does it hurt so bad, his whole left side burns as if ablaze. One bullet, he thought it had only grazed him, but then why is there so much blood trickling through the fingers he’s pressing against his flank in a desperate attempt to keep it all where it belongs, his failure red and hot and very evident.

    It’s only blood. But shit, there is a lot of it.
