Part Six: Koganegawa

Summary:

“I was gonna send you an invite to the party tomorrow,” he said. “Since I’ve got you on the line, though, are you gonna be able to make it? It’s this weekend.”

“Of course I can make it. I’ll make sure of it.”

“Perfect! Although, I do have an odd request for you.”

“Is it about a present?”

“Yeah, I don’t really want anything in particular,” he said nervously. “I was wondering if maybe the two of us could, I don’t know, hang out alone sometime?”

Notes:

This ship is a lil rare for a xHinata ship, but I love it SO much lmao. I just love Kogane tbh he's just a big ol bby and he's cute as hell after the timeskip.

Anywho, I hope you like this one! There are a LOT of references to Treasure Planet in this, so if you haven't watched the movie, you may be confused. My apologies on that, but I love that movie lmao.

Work Text:

Shoyo sat in his room, finishing up some last minute schoolwork with the little time he had before leaving for school. He hummed to himself as he scribbled answers onto the worksheets, looking over them with a squint. He thought to himself for a moment, feeling as though he was forgetting something.

“What day is it?” Shoyo mumbled to himself. He paused his schoolwork, opening his phone. His eyes widened dramatically. “I knew it! Kogane-kun’s birthday is coming up soon!” He dialed on his phone quickly and placed it to his ear.

“Hello, this is Koganegawa Kanji,” he greeted through the speaker.

“Hey, Kogane-kun, it’s Shoyo.”

“Oh, hi! What’s up?”

“Just wondering if you had any plans for your birthday that I should know about.”

Kanji laughed.

Shoyo tilted his head with a raised brow. “I don’t see why not. It would be fun, but are you sure that’s all that you want? I really could get something for you.”

“No, no!” he said frantically. “Just hanging out sounds great, I promise.”

“Okay,” Shoyo chuckled. “Well, I’ll see you this weekend, and I’ll update you when I can about when we can hang out.”

“Okay, thank Shoyo. See you then!”

“Bye!” He hung up and set his phone down with a sigh. “What was he being so weird for? Whatever.” He breathed out a soft chuckle and resumed his schoolwork.

A couple of weeks passed and Kanji stood at Shoyo’s front door. He knocked on the door and bounced on his feet, excited to spend time with him.

The door opened to reveal Shoyo in sweatpants and a t-shirt, grinning at the sight of Kanji. “Come in!” he beckoned him into the house. “My parents are out for like a week. They’re on vacation and I sent Natsu off to her friend’s house for the night, so we’ve got the entire house to ourselves! Happy birthday!” He gestured dramatically to his house with wide arms. “Or—well, close enough, anyway.”

Kicking off his shoes, Kanji chuckled. “Don’t worry, it still counts.”

“So, what do you wanna do first? I’ve got a volleyball out back if you want to pass it back and forth.”

“Yeah, we can do that! That sounds fun!” He placed his bag on the floor by the entrance beside Shoyo’s school bag.

The two went out and messed around until dusk, stumbling back into the house laughing loudly. They ate dinner, a meal of katsudon that Shoyo’s mother prepared ahead of time for the two as her way to wish Kanji a happy birthday.

“What do you want to do now?” Shoyo asked as they entered the living room. “We could play video games, watch TV, watch a movie—”

“Oooh, a movie sounds awesome,” Kanji said.

“Okay, I’ll get the player started. You can pick a movie from the cabinet.” He gestured across the room.

Kanji walked over and opened it to reveal a large selection of films in multiple languages. “Dude, you have movies in English? Wait, is this one in Spanish?”

“Yeah, my dad likes foreign films, and he uses the excuse of ‘it’ll be good for the kids’ so that my mom doesn’t get mad when he keeps buying more of them.”

Kanji snickered. “Does she really get mad about it?”

“Not really, she just kinda sighs whenever he comes home with another one. She enjoys watching them too, though, so I think it’s fine.”

Kanji nodded. “Okay, um, what’s Cloud Atlas? It looks interesting.”

“Skip it, it’s like three hours long. It is interesting, but I don’t think you’d like it.”

“Hmm, okay,” he said, placing it back on the shelf. He gasped. “You have Treasure Planet?” He pulled the movie from the shelf, looking at it as though it were made of solid gold.

“You’ve watched it?”

“Only a million times!”

“Do you want to watch it again?”

Kanji hopped in place with a nod. “We have to.” He handed the case to Shoyo.

Shoyo took out the disk and slid it into the player, hopping up to sit on the couch. “I’ve watched this a few times myself.”

Kanji sat down, scooting up right next to Shoyo, placing his arm on the back of the couch. “Who’s your favorite character? Mine is definitely Ben. He’s just so goofy. He always made me laugh when I was younger.”

Hitting play on the movie, Shoyo set the remote down and leaned into Kanji. “Hmm, probably Morph. He’s really cute and I like his pranks.”

Blushing lightly, Kanji cleared his throat and nodded. “Yeah, he’s adorable.”

They watched the opening scenes of the movie, Shoyo jumping a few times when the Inn was attacked. As the ship crew were introduced and Captain Amelia landed on the scene, Shoyo giggled.

“Y’know, I used to have the biggest crush on her,” he said.

“Who hasn’t,” Kanji said. “I kinda wish I could swing around like that.”

“Guess you should’ve gotten into gymnastics instead of volleyball, then,” Shoyo joked.

“If I had done that, we wouldn’t be friends, though.”

“I think I could live with that.”

“Hey!”

“I’m just messing with you,” Shoyo said, slapping him lightly on the chest. “But it would be cool to see you do acrobatic stuff.”

“I know right?”

As Jim placed the map into its slot on the planet, Kanji turned to Shoyo. “Could you imagine having a map like that? I’d go somewhere new every weekend.”

“I’m not sure about that,” Shoyo said, snuggling closer to Kanji’s side. “There’s a lot of fun to be had on the way there, don’t you think?” He looked up at him, their faces just inches apart.

“Um—for sure, yeah,” he said, flush creeping up the back of his neck. “I guess you’ve got a point there.”

“Kogane-kun?”

“Yeah?”

“I like you.”

Kanji’s eyes widened. “What? I—uh—you do?”

Shoyo nodded.

“Oh wow,” Kanji said with a chuckle. “That’s great because I really like you. Could I—could I kiss you?”

“Yes,” Shoyo whispered.

As the traps on Treasure Planet began to go off, Kanji leaned down and kissed Shoyo. He brought his free arm to wrap around his waist, pulling him in closer.

Shoyo threaded a hand into Kanji’s hair and rubbed his thumb against his cheek. He pulled away. “Happy birthday, Kogane-kun,” he whispered.

“Not gonna lie, I think this is the best birthday present I’ve ever gotten.”

Shoyo giggled and wrapped his arms around Kanji’s neck.

The two continued kissing as the planet completely melted down on the screen. Kanji pushed Shoyo onto his back and pecked kisses along his throat, making him giggle.

“Kogane-kun!” he said. “That tickles!”

Kanji placed another kiss on Shoyo’s lips, cupping his cheek gently. “We’re gonna miss the best part.”

“We can watch it again later.” Shoyo dragged him down into another deep kiss as the crew survived the final blast, safely reaching the Montressor Spaceport.

The new inn opened and at the sound of the upbeat background music, Kanji hopped to his feet. “May I have this dance?” He extended a hand to Shoyo.

“Absolutely.” He took it and Kanji hauled him onto his feet. The two danced clumsily along to the music, laughing the entire time.

Kanji planted kisses all over Shoyo’s face. The action made Shoyo blush and giggle, but he allowed it happily. As the song ended, Kanji lifted Shoyo up, spinning him around. They laughed into the night as they shared one last kiss.
