Part Five: Kozume

Summary:

“‘Are the two of you dating?’ No, we are not,” Kenma said. “Let’s see… ‘are you single?’”

“Yes, I am, but I’m a bit too busy to commit myself to anyone at the moment,” Shoyo said.

“‘Is Shoyo gay?’”

Shoyo opened one eye. “No, I’m bi for sure.”

Kenma giggled. “Okay this one’s cute, ‘what product do you use to make your hair look so gorgeous? Did you steal the sun?’”

“No, I lived in Brazil for two years,” he said with a chuckle.

“What does that have to do with it?”

“Absolutely nothing, but I’ve definitely gotten a lot of sun from those two years alone.”

“You’re so weird,” Kenma said, shaking his head. “Okay, guys, stop asking about his love life. He already answered, you horny bastards.”

Notes:

I thought the idea of Hinata talking in his sleep would be funny. I hope you guys do too lol.

Work Text:

After a long and difficult month of non-stop travel to different games, Shoyo finally got a break, deciding to visit Kenma for this week off. Being a full-time streamer, Kenma had the idea to bring Shoyo on and play a game with him. Unfortunately for Shoyo, this wasn’t exactly his proudest moment.

“Wow guys,” Kenma laughed, adjusting his headset. “Can you believe the Shoyo Hinata is this bad at Mario Kart?”

“Come on, Kenma, you know I don’t play video games that often!” Shoyo whined.

“Alright, I guess I’ll give you a bit of a break.” He chuckled. “What do you think, chat?” He glanced at his monitor. “Okay, the jury is in. Most of them said you get a pass because you’re hot.”

Shoyo laughed, hiding his reddening cheeks. “Really? Thanks guys.” He focused his eyes on the screen, groaning when he got last place again.

“Ready to take a break?”

“Yeah,” Shoyo sighed. He set down the controller and scooted his chair closer to Kenma. “I don’t know how you do it.”

“I have over five hundred hours logged on this game.”

Shoyo sputtered. “Yep, yeah, that would explain it.”

Kenma snickered.

Shoyo watched him impatiently, slowly scooting himself even closer. Once close enough, he blew softly on his ear, causing him to jolt slightly.

“Sorry, Shoyo, you’re not gonna mess me up that easily,” he said. “I’ve had Kuro here before while playing this and nobody can top him in the ‘annoying’ department.”

Shoyo pouted, leaning his head on his shoulder. “Meh.”

“Care to tell the viewers what brought you here today?” he asked quietly.

“Well, I was in town, and since you are my sponsor and my best friend, I wanted to visit you first. As for how I got to playing Mario Kart, that was all you.”

“That’s true, I thought it would be funny, and it was,” he chuckled. “Any questions in the chat?”

Shoyo closed his eyes, starting to feel sleepy.

“Hey, now,” Shoyo scolded. “You don’t have to be so rude.”

“You’re not the one looking at the chat,” he said with a grimace. “Okay hold on, I need to ban this person real quick. They’re getting on my nerves.” He paused the game, clicking on his computer quickly. “Okay, here’s a fun question, ‘what do you plan to do once you retire from playing volleyball?’”

“Oh, I don’t know,” Shoyo said. “Hopefully I’ll have found someone to settle down with by then. Beyond that, maybe I’ll get a dog, not sure. Or maybe a cat?”

“You gonna move back to Brazil again?” Kenma asked softly.

“Oh, no,” Shoyo said. “I’m sure I’ll visit there plenty, but being home is definitely something I’ve learned to appreciate since I went pro.” He looked up at Kenma and smiled. Exhaustion pulled at him and he yawned.

“Tired already?” Kenma teased. “It’s only, like, ten.”

“Yeah, but I’m used to a very regular sleeping schedule.” He rubbed his eye. “I’m usually dead asleep by now.”

Kenma hummed. He paused his game and closed it out, opening up Animal Crossing: New Horizons. “There, this game is quieter. I need to harvest my fruit today anyway. Go ahead and go to sleep.”

“Okay, thanks Kenma,” Shoyo yawned. He plopped unceremoniously onto Kenma’s bed, sprawled out on his stomach. He began snoring within seconds.

“I will never understand how he can fall asleep so fast,” Kenma said softly, shaking his head. “Yeah, guys, he’s been like that since high school. He can sleep through just about anything too. I’m pretty sure even if an elephant trampled my entire house, he’d still be asleep.”

Shoyo began to mumble in his sleep, his face twisting up into a frown.

“Yeah, this one time during a training camp—”

“Nice serve!” Shoyo slurred, his leg jerking.

Kenma spun in his chair to give his sleeping friend a confused look before turning back around. “Sleep talking is definitely new, though. Well, as long as he doesn’t start sleepwalking, I’m sure it’s fine.”

Kenma continued playing the game, the music playing softly through the speakers. “Too bad the shops are all closed right now. I’m kinda curious what clothes were available today.” He glanced at the chat. “No, I’m not gonna change the time because you guys went ballistic last time and now I no longer do it out of spite—”

“Chance ball!” Shoyo belted out.

Kenma jumped nearly out of his chair. “Okay, now I’m starting to mind. If he does that again, I’ll beat him awake if I have to.” He flopped back down into his chair. “No, I’m not gonna beat him while I’m live, that could be used as evidence, and I don’t feel like having charges pressed against me, thanks.”

He groaned as he failed to reel in a fish. “This damn fishing mechanic. I have over eight hundred hours in this game and I still can’t manage to keep a streak worth sh—”

“Hmm, Kenma,” Shoyo drawled out in his sleep.

Kenma’s head shot up with wide eyes. “Yeah, okay, that’s enough of that for tonight. Thanks for sticking around everybody and also my apologies if you never see your favorite volleyball star again.” He waved at the camera before ending his stream. He spun around in his chair, hopping out of it and standing at the foot of his bed.

“Kenmaaa,” Shoyo whispered.

“If I find out that you were actually awake the whole time, there will be consequences,” Kenma seethed under his breath. He sighed and dropped onto the bed beside Shoyo. With a frown, he shook his shoulder firmly.

Shoyo stirred for a moment, craning his head upwards. “Hey, Kenma, what’s up? What time is it?”

“You haven’t been asleep long, don’t worry,” he answered. “I ended my stream early since you kept talking in your sleep and I figured you’d prefer that to stay off the internet.”

“Agh, I forgot about that,” he said with a groan. “I apparently started talking in my sleep recently. I have a feeling it’s just due to exhaustion. I didn’t say anything embarrassing did I?”

“You yelled ‘chance ball’ like a madman.”

Shoyo shrugged. “Okay, so nothing terrible.”

Kenma flicked his forehead. “You scared me nearly half to death.”

“I thought you had nine lives,” he joked. “That is what your fans say about you, right?”

“They compare me to a cat frequently, yes, but that’s beside the point. Scoot over, I’m tired.”

Shoyo rolled onto his side, giving Kenma space to lay down beside him.

Kenma laid next to him, pulling his head into his own chest. “Yell even once while you’re asleep and I'll smack you.”

“Sure you will, Kenma,” he giggled. He snuggled into his chest, wrapping his arms around him tightly.

They sat in silence for a few moments.

“So, how long do you think it’ll be before your fans finally catch on that we’ve been dating for months now.”

“They’re clearly suspicious, but they don’t have any solid proof.”

“Yeah, but I’m sure they’ll figure it out eventually.”

“When they do, they better not be gross about it. I’d rather not have to end my career because of creepy fans, y’know?” He brushed back his hair lovingly.

“Are you saying you wouldn’t want to go into hiding with me? We could run away from the world and be hermits!”

Kenma shook his head with a chuckle. “Yeah, but then you wouldn’t have any other volleyball freaks to play against.”

“Small price to pay to be together with you forever,” he said, his voice warm as the summer breeze.

Kenma’s heart skipped a beat and he looked away from Shoyo. “Damn it, don’t say shit like that. You’re gonna get me choked up.” He kissed his forehead. “Just go to sleep.”

“Okay, love you.”

“I love you too.”

Shoyo pulled Kenma’s plush comforter over the both of them, wrapping them in its warmth. They fell asleep with their legs tangled together and the sound of their matching heartbeast in their ears.
