Chapter Text
Monica got off of Ralph, glad he was no longer under mind control. He looked as if he would agree.
“Oh my god…” he muttered under his breath, rubbing his head with his hands.
“You alright?” Monica asked.
He looked up at her. “Who’re you?”
Monica helped him to his feet, where he was a little wobbly, and he held onto her shoulder for support. “I’m Monica,” she said. She paused, then spoke again. “Sorry about the whole mind control thing. It sucks.”
He nodded his head. “Yeah.”
She let him catch his breath for a bit.
“At least I know who I am now, ” Ralph said. “Somewhat…”
“Somewhat?” Monica asked, noticing what he said.
Ralph squeezed his eyes shut. “I think I still have Pietro’s memories.”
Monica was surprised at this. “How does that work? You were only mind controlled to play Pietro, you shouldn’t have his memories.”
Ralph opened his eyes and looked at her. “That’s what I was thinking. But, maybe while Agatha was controlling me she had put Pietro’s memories in and temporarily took mine out.”
“Agatha? Do you mean Agnes?” She asked, mentally filing away the new information.
It was his turn to look confused. “No. Agatha.”
“She does seem kind of suspicious. I wouldn’t be surprised if she was lying about something,” Monica said. “Did you say she was the one controlling you? Not Wanda?”
“Yeah,” Ralph said. “I guess they’re both witches.”
“Huh…” Monica said under her breath. Then she looked out the window and saw the red cloud of magic up in the sky. She turned to face her companion. “So, Ralph. We should probably help Wanda out there.”
“Ralph?” Ralph asked. “Who’s Ralph?”
Monica furrowed her brow. “I thought you said you knew who you were?”
“I do know who I am. And it’s not Ralph. Where did you even get that?”
Monica walked over and held up the headshot with the name “Ralph Bohner” written beneath it. “Is this not you?”
He raised an eyebrow. “No.”
“Weird…” Monica said and put it back down. “If you’re not Ralph, who are you?”
“Peter,” he said. “Peter Maximoff.”
This confused Monica even more. “Wait- so you are related to Wanda?”
“No, well- I’m honestly not sure,” Peter said. “I… had a sister named Wanda, but she’s not the same as the one out there. I don’t know who that is.”
“Okay, this is really confusing,” Monica said.
“Yeah…” Peter muttered, lost in thought. He rubbed his forehead and turned to face the window. “I guess we should help her, whoever she is.”
“Alright,” Monica said and walked through the doorway. She paused and looked back when she realized Peter wasn’t following. “Uhh… you coming?”
“Right,” Peter said, startled out of his thoughts. “Right, yeah. I’m coming.”
Monica narrowed her eyes, still slightly concerned about him. She’ll deal with him once the whole Westview thing is over.
“Y’know, I can get us out of here pretty fast,” Peter said. And, before Monica could even reply, she was standing outside the house feeling very nauseous.
“Woah…” she muttered. This time she was leaning on Peter for support, breathing heavily. “I… I didn’t realize... you still had... your speed.”
“Of course I still have it! Why would I not?”
Monica quickly righted herself. “I just thought Agnes- sorry- Agatha had given you your speed, and so when you lost the mind control, you also lost that.”
Peter huffed and looked up at Wanda and Agatha in the sky. “Agatha’s powerful, but she’s not that powerful.”
“I guess that’s a good thing,” Monica said.
He turned to face her again. “Come on. I’ll take you to the town square, maybe we can help some of the civilians.”
And suddenly, in a blink of an eye, Monica was in the town square. This time she had Peter’s hand on her shoulder to steady her.
“Sorry,” he said. “This happens with everyone.”
“You could at least give me a bit of a warning next time!”
“I did!”
“Not really!”
“I did! I said, ‘I’ll take you to the town square’ and I did just that!”
Monica huffed. “At least make sure I’m ready next time.”
Peter rolled his eyes. “Fine,” he said, drawing out the word.
Monica turned just in time to see a S.W.O.R.D. vehicle arrive and park near the twins, who were huddled together looking scared. “Oh shit,” she muttered as she raced in front of them just in time to block a few bullets fired by Hayward.
She had done it before realizing it. And once she was there, she was glad she had. She was also thankful for the new powers she had. It was quite a strange sensation as the bullets passed through her, dealing no damage. She felt them go through, but it didn’t hurt.
There was, however, one bullet she wasn’t able to block. It whizzed past her right ear, and she followed it with her eyes, not realizing how fast she was moving. Her heart skipped a beat as she noticed it was heading straight for Billy’s head, but then he caught it with his magic.
Monica watched as Billy dropped the bullet to the ground. “Nice tricks,” She said.
“Thanks! I like yours too,” he replied.
“I- what?” Hayward said. Then, afraid of the twins and Monica, he ran back to his car. Before he could get away though, Darcy ran into it with her truck.
“Have fun in jail!” Darcy said from behind the wheel.
Peter was then suddenly at Monica’s side. “Since when have you had a mutation?”
“Since earlier today,” Monica replied. “I still don’t know what all I can do. I didn’t even know I could do that!”
Peter started to say something, but Darcy had gotten out of her truck and ran up to the group. “Holy fuck, that was awesome!”
“Darcy!” Monica exclaimed. “There’s children!” She gestured to the twins.
“Right, sorry,” Darcy said. “But still! That was so cool! The way you stopped those bullets and they went right through you!” She then noticed Peter standing there. “Wait, what’s Fake Pietro doing here?”
Peter looked exasperated. “It’s Peter, actually.”
“He was mind controlled by Agatha to play Pietro,” Monica said.
“Ohh. Makes sense. Wait, hold up- Agatha?”
Peter sighed and pinched the bridge of his nose. “Yes. Agatha.”
“Agnes was lying about her name,” Monica added.
“She also has powers similar to Wanda‘s,” Peter said.
Darcy looked slightly annoyed. “What else did I miss?”
Before either of them could reply, the twins went running over to their mother, who had returned to the ground with Agatha in tow. Wanda hugged both of her children close.
“You’ve no idea what you’ve unleashed,” Agatha said. “You’re gonna need me.”
Wanda released the kids and turned to face Agatha. “If I do, I’ll know where to find you.”
With that, Wanda walked forward towards Agatha. “I’m going to do to you what happened to the rest of the townspeople,” Wanda said. She then placed her fingers to Agatha’s temple and trapped her inside her own head. Her witch outfit also glitched away to a regular civilian’s clothing.
“Serves her right,” Peter said from beside Monica.
“Yeah,” she said in return. “I guess now she’s getting a taste of her own medicine.”
The trio watched as Wanda and the mind-controlled Agatha exchanged a few words, the twins awkwardly standing off to the side. Wanda then turned away from her and faced her children. “Let’s go find your father,” she said. She gave Monica, Darcy, and Peter a sideways look and walked away with the twins.
