Day 9 - Hanging Out with Friends
The train station in Tokyo had been left behind, and currently, the group six-strong was strolling along through the city streets, all pleased (some expressing it more than others) to be in each others company.
Morisuke and Lev, accompanied this time by their teammates from Nekoma, Kuroo, and Kenma, as well as Kuroo and Kenma’s court mates who’ve come up to visit for the weekend from Miyagi, Tsukishima, and Yamaguchi.
At the moment, Lev was chattering away to Tsukki about blocking techniques the blonde was clearly not even slightly interested in, while Kuroo was snickering at Tsukishima being stuck in the conversation. Kenma had an arm looped through Yamaguchi’s elbow and was using him as a guide, keeping his eyes glued to his phone as he walked.
Bringing up the rear, Morisuke was watching the scene with a self-satisfied half-smile.
It’s good to see these two having to put up with their alphas when they always make fun of me and mine.
To be fair, while Kuroo and Kei’s relationship might be a shocker, it was oddly harmonious. They jabbed and joked at each other ruthlessly, but they were also both extremely perceptive and knew what to take seriously, and when something was indeed just a joke.
That was important, considering the foul temperament to which both could fall victim.
Extremely opposite on the spectrum were Yamaguchi and Kenma. Both naturally soft-spoken and not much for poking fun, they tended to enjoy their time together in a sort of happy little bubble.
Mostly quiet, sometimes with little exchanges going back and forth, but never very spirited such as with Kei and Tetsurou.
Or, of course, Lev and Morisuke, who was practically a comedy routine half the time, with how they bickered and stumbled over each other.
What mattered was they were all happy, and that was that.
A few blocks later found them all settling into a corner table for lunch, and already things were getting heated.
“If you try to pay for me again, you’re dead.” Morisuke was glaring daggers across the table at Lev, who put his palms up disarmingly.
“Oh, c’mon Mori, you’re so hard to get presents for; food is basically the only thing I can buy you.”
Yamaguchi, meanwhile, was fiddling with this hands under the table, probably facing a similar dilemma of wanting to buy his court-mates meal.
Morisuke somehow got the feeling they would end up texting each other to sort it out. Kenma wasn’t the type for frontal confrontation.
Then, naturally, there was Kei and Tetsurou.
“So…you gonna be a gentle-alpha and pay for my meal or something smooth like that?” Kuroo started with this prod.
“Hell no, you’ve got money,” Kei replied, crossing his arms.
Tetsurou scoffed. “Oh, so why have you already got your wallet out?”
Kei raised an eyebrow. “Well, unless times have changed and you’re buying me food, I still need to pay for myself, right?”
“Not until after the meal, don’t play dumb.”
“Maybe I just wanted to make sure I didn’t forget cash.”
“Sure, and I’ve got less docosahexaenoic acid than Yakkun over there.”
“I swear! I know what that joke means, you asshole! Don’t drag me into your lover's spat!” Morisuke fired.
“Is that the acid that makes you taller?” Lev asked cluelessly.
“BEHEMOTH!”
The table rocked from the force of Morisuke slamming his knee up into it, and things carried on in such a wild manner for the majority of the meal.
“So, where too after this?” Kuroo asked between bites of sushi.
Yamaguchi glanced up. “I think Kenma wanted to go to the gaming plaza near here, right?” He looked across the table at this.
Kenma’s golden, lamp-like eyes lifted from his plate, and he nodded. “…yeah, just for a sec.”
“Whatever you want, Kitten. It’s your world. We’re just living in it.” Kuroo hummed, clearly not all too worried about it as he plucked another piece of sushi from his plate.
The table was pretty quickly cleared of food, and they were thanked for their patronage and shown the door after that.
It took a few steps past the door before Morisuke narrowed his eyes.
“Wait a second.”
He looked up at his court-mate, walking behind him whistling an innocent tune.
“They didn’t ask us to pay, did they?” He demanded shortly.
“Kei…who knew you were a gentle-alpha after all!” Kuroo was crowing, a whole new array of teasing available to him.
“Just wanted to prove you weren’t courting a barbarian, Tetsurou, aren’t you happy?”
“Happy you forked over to buy me lunch? Not so much, actually. Save you damn money!” Kuroo switched tones very suddenly as if the fact Tsukishima had actually bought him lunch just caught up to him.
“Then why did you bring it up in the first place?”
“It was obviously a joke!”
Kei pushed up his glasses with his forefinger and shook his head, a genuine smile ghosting across his lips. “Nah, it wasn’t. I can always tell.”
Kuroo seemed rather taken aback by this, even flushing slightly, and meanwhile, Kenma was tugging on Yamaguchi’s sleeve.
“You didn’t have to do that.” He said quietly.
Tadashi shrugged. “I don’t see you as often because we live so far away from each other. It’s the least I can do.”
“Save it for another train ticket to come to visit again, then,” Kenma grumbled, hugging his arm again.
Yamaguchi scratched the back of his neck. “Aw…well, how can I say no to that?”
“Why the hell are they so wholesome?” Yaku demanded flatly. Meanwhile, Kuroo was about at Tsukki’s throat over if or not he’d been joking about the lunch bill, and Lev was still keeled over from the kick to the shins he’d received for his act of misdirection.
“I think you guys might just be the dysfunctional ones.” Kenma shot back over his shoulder without a moment's hesitation, and Kuroo gasped as if in pain.
“Kitten! How could you?”
“He’s right,” Tsukki said pointedly.
“Kei, don’t agree with him!”
“Lev…I’m sorry I was so mad about the lunch. …thanks for buying.”
“It’s ok, I was expecting it! You’re welcome!”
“But don’t do it again.”
“Right!”
So a weekend of fun was had by all, and if or not it was a little dysfunctional, well, all that mattered was they were a bunch of kids in love.
Nothing was dysfunctional about that.
