Chapter 1: Midoriya Inko - Childhood

Chapter Text

Childhood Midoriya and Bakugou

Compared to what some may say about parenting, Inko never had trouble when it came to Izuku. Izuku was in her opinion an angel sent from heaven that had so happened to be her kid. However, while she did love him it doesn’t mean she quite understands him.

Izuku only truly cared about two things growing up. Heroes and the child, Bakugou Katsuki.
Of course, this is in part due to her doing. Her and Mitsuki having known each other for years now naturally lead to their children being friends.

While Inko cares deeply for Bakugou and will always see him fondly no matter how old he gets she doesn’t quite understand the attachment that her son has on him. You see the way Izuku talks about him, while very childlike, goes deeper than playground friends. Izuku sets Bakugou up to seem like a real-life hero in the story he recounts to her. To Izuku, Bakugou is always the hero in every story.

“The rest of us were scared to explore but not Kacchan! Kacchan said that he was gonna become the king of the forest! Just like a hero would!” he proclaimed, while Inko wiped his face clean from the dirt after another one of their adventures.

His smile huge and sunny. While her Izuku always openly smiled, his smile seemed to change when it came to Bakugou. A hint of pride shone through.

Izuku is someone that openly gives and doesn’t hold a thing to himself. Pride and desire were not something common for Izuku. But for some reason, it came out when he talked about the boy. The pride and admiration that came fourth and the desire to keep following along with what the boy had to offer.

They seemed to orbit around each other. For better or for worse.

---

Things changed not long after. The years that followed were hard for Inko to follow. Inko knew that Izuku was still the same boy he always was. But she also knew the harsh reality that he navigated outside of their home. Izuku never specified and never told her what happened. While he didn’t show it too much anymore she knew deep down how badly he wanted to become a hero.

Time seemed to stand still during those years. She never asked about Bakugou. Deep down she knew that the answer she would have gotten would’ve been far too complicated for her to understand.

---

Everything changed in the last year of Izuku’s middle school years. Ever since the Slug villain’s attack, Izuku had been different.

Inko was already on edge when she saw that it was Bakugou struggling with the villain as she watched the news. Sitting close to the TV, praying for a hero to reach out and save Bakugou. Her heart nearly stopped when she saw who ended up running out.
It was Izuku running towards Bakugou desperately trying to save him. Part of her felt proud, most of her felt horrified. Later that night when he finally came home Inko suffocated him in a hug at the door.
The worst part was, as she strictly told Izuku to never do something like that again, she could feel Izuku’s smile through her shirt.
Things changed after that. Izuku’s smile, while tired from work, was brimming with hope.

---

It was the next day after Izuku’s acceptance to UA. They were out for a celebratory dinner at his favorite place that served katsudon. Inko couldn’t help but ask.

“Do you think Bakugou-kun would be there? At UA?”
Izuku got one of his far away looks that he sometimes had. He smiled softly.
“Yeah, I think so.”
