Work Text:
She closed her eyes trying to catch the warm breath of the wind. Finally, a break. No fights, no stress, no wounds and most importanty: no more annoying newbies. Even though the first three were only a temporary luxury, the last one, she hoped, was permanent. After all, the last day of the Sister school goodwill event was about to end.
"Utahime~ Waiiit!"
Great. The fragile peace and quiet were completely destroyed.
"Are you still mad at me because your team lost?"
"I'm not mad at all!"
There were only two things in the world which could drive their calm and stoic sensei crazy: baseball and Gojo Satoru. Now when these two things were combined, a murderous disaster was inevitable.
Momo sighed.
Looks like a passionate bickering between their senseis will never end. She always wondered, why is Utahime-sensei so oblivious? Didn't she notice at all? Well, maybe it's for the best, because this Gojo-guy…
"He is so blunt…”
Kamo suddenly said.
Momo almost jumped. She was so concentrated watching this couple of loud adults, she totally forgot that Kamo was still sitting by her side. No wonder, when he is reading one of his books (why not to use a smartphone though?), he tends to become awfully quiet.
"Right, Kamo-kun?! Even though I didn't expect that you could be so direct with your words"…
He blinked and then the moment of realization hit him too.
"Ah, I'm sorry, Nishimiya. Looks like the meeting with Tokyo school affected me more than I thought.”
Momo couldn't help but smile seeing him so confused. Even though she could barely see his eyes, she knew him too well to tell, when he was overwhelmed. Even if it's about such small things.
"Nah, don't worry, Kamo-kun. It's fine! You just said exactly what I thought. But, honestly, I was a little surprised that you noticed it too.”
His bows frowned a bit.
"I'm not that blind, you know.”
Momo giggled, now he was offended.
"It's not that hard to notice, that…”
"Hm?"
"That the head of the Gojo clan can't behave at all.”
"WHAT?!"
His words made her jump from her seat.
"Is it that all what you were worried about? Clan stuff?! Are you for real?!"
Kamo blinked again: why did she become so furious at once?
"Is it bad to worry about our future?"
"Damn…”
Momo cursed in English.
"I try, I always tried to understand your fixation on clans, rules and traditions. But honestly I can't!"
"It's probably not that easy for you because you grew up in America."
Ah, looks like he hit a wrong nail again…
"Huh, now you're telling me that I'm just a gaijin...” Momo suddenly whispered and turned her face away from him.
Kamo was literally drowning.
At first, he was only confused, now he suddenly started to panic. True, he doesn't understand Nishimiya very well. She was like a hurricane full of unexpected thoughts and actions. Kamo always tried to convince himself that their misunderstandings mainly happened due to their different cultural heritages. No matter how hard she hid it, he could feel her free, rebellious spirit. It bumped into his conservative nature: as the heir to the Kamo family, it even scared him. Because it looked so wrongly inviting.
"Nishimiya, listen, I didn't mean it. I don't want to offend you.” He tried hard to pick the right words. "Yes, traditions and clans are very important for me but I understand that there's a world behind them."
Kamo paused struggling to let his thoughts out. He didn't remember the last time he was so honest.
"You don't even know how much I wish to be a part of that world too…”
If only he wasn't born in the Kamo clan. He could be just a happy child with his mother by his side.
"And you can be! You aren't like them, Kamo-kun!" Momo's sharp blue eyes suddenly got so close to his face, their fire could scorch him for sure.
"I believe when you'll become the head of your clan... you'll be able to create a better world! Where girls like Mai-chan won't suffer! Where talented people like Utahime-sensei won't be judged by their looks!"
Unconsciously she grabbed his hand trying to put even more weight to her words.
"You're a kind person, so please, show me more of Kamo-kun whom I always knew, not Kamo the next head of the clan!"
"Nishimiya...”
He was finally able to catch his breath.
"You're a little bit too close.”
Red blush burned her face. Oh no, she got carried away! Why did she even catch his hand?!
"Sorry, forget it." Momo lost her grip and turned around to walk away. "I probably got too tired for today, so don't pay attention to this nonsense. You have to rest too, Kamo-kun.”
Her shoulders were trembling a little. Momo felt terribly helpless. A bitter lump in her throat didn't make her feel any better. She better grab her broom and disappear in the sky as soon as possible. There she was always at home with all her thoughts and broken hopes.
"Nishimiya, wait!"
A warm hand fell on her shoulder. Momo flinched trying to get the blurriness of her gaze away. Showing her weakness was never cute in her opinion.
"What?" Her grumpy face wasn't probably the best choice either, but now she wasn't able to put something better.
"You rushed so fast, I couldn't tell you… Thank you."
Now it was her turn to be confused.
"Did you hit your hea... Ah, sorry, I mean did your injury start to hurt again?"
"Very funny, Nishimiya.”
He huffed, but the small smile curling on his lips didn't escape Momo's gaze.
"Anyway, I'm serious about it. Thank you for putting your trust in me!" he bowed.
"How official." Momo laughed. What a dork, honestly.
"And please keep watching over me! Without you and the others, I won't be able to create this beautiful world you dream of."
"You're hopeless alone anyway." Momo mumbled, hiding her face for some reason. "But I take what I can."
She reached out her hand.
"It's a promise, okay?"
Kamo shook her hand. His serious concentrated expression made her laugh even more.
"What? Was it untraditional enough for me?" He tilted his head in curiosity.
"You have so much to learn!" Momo smiled.
"Well, I always loved to study. So I'm in your hands. Would you be so nice to teach me English too?"
"Nah!" She stuck out her tongue teasing him. "Too much pain!"
"Too bad, I was thinking about introducing you to my mother already."
"W-what? What do you mean?! Hey, Kamo-kun! You can't get away with it like this, Kamo-kun!"

"Ah, what a beautiful youth! You have to learn from them, Utahime."
"I have no clue what you’re talking about."
She automatically dropped his hand out from her waist.
"You like to hurry things up."
"That's a slander. I'm the most patient man in the world!" Gojo sulked, "Anyway, Noritoshi and I are sort of clan colleagues, so let me give him some love tips.”
"No way! You better stay away from my students!"
Another drama rocked the sunset sail. Walking together, Kamo and Momo only smiled: Utahime-sensei was on a roll today. Interesting, what did Gojo find to trigger her this time?
