“Hey Mouse!! Are you busy?” The flash of orange and the excited scream had little Mouse jump and dive into her cocoon of blankets on the couch. Lou Jitsu movie was a bit more tense than the others she had seen and was fully invested in the story. Mikey the darling had chose to come nearly barreling into the living room right when Lou was hunting down an evil villain. “Ahh! Mikey?” Mouse squeaked as she poked her head out from underneath the pile of fabric. “You know the blanket mountain means scares! You’re the one who taught me that.” The actor on the screen froze as Mouse paused the movie and sat up a bit straighter, trying to hold a scowl that failed upon seeing the box turtle’s smile. That smile meant Mikey had thought of something he thought was the next best thing. “No I’m not busy, what’s-“ “Do you want to play a game I just made up?!” The twinkle in his eye was almost burning with how bright they shone, they seemed to grow and envelop Mouse before she realized he was just getting closer to her. The blush grew on her cheeks as she leaned back a bit. “Sooo….whats the game called?” she asked as she pulled the blanket carefully away from her headpiece to rest on her shoulders.
“It’s called Snoot. I can’t tell you anymore until we find the guys.” With a slight tug, Mikey had mouse following him as he went on his search for his brothers. The light purple of Mouse’s eyes zeroed in on the hold Mikey had of her hand and her blush grew. Part was slight worry about the “game” Mikey had thought up. His games were either incredibly fun for everyone or they involved someone rage-quitting before the first round started.
Raph and Leo were by the skate ramp in the common area, the large snapping turtle was balanced on his skateboard with a basketball in hand. It looked like he and leo were practicing for their next skate-ball game. “Hey Raph!!” At the mention of his name the red turtle turned his head to the sound, his board however, had other plans.
Like taking its turn on the ramp. The barest movement had Raph barreling down the steep incline with his arms pinwheeling beside him as he kept his balance on one leg. At the bottom of the ramp, the ball hit the board enough to send the snapper flying to the other ramp. With a large crash Raphael was on his back looking more than dazed. “Uhhhh…..”
Mouse was racing to Raph’s side while Mikey and Leo were moving his large form to sit up from his tumble. “Raph, Raph… you okay hermano?”
“Yeah, my face takes damage like a boss remember?” His last few words smothered as Mouse grabbed smooshed his cheeks together to move his head how she wished. “Lemme see, don’t move.” She commanded, checking his head for any injuries. It wasn’t until she moved his mask to check underneath that she noticed how bright his eyes were. Or how they were so close to each other. And was that a blush on his nose? Cute…wait a-
“I’m- im okay Mouse, really…i-“ “Oh! Oh right, well you look okay…I’ll um…” She slowly dropped his face and backed away. “Yeah, so uh- Mikey, what did you want?” Leo dusted off his hands and stood. Offering his hand to help Mouse stand up from her crouch. “Yeah, what’s the big haps little bro?” Mikey’s smile dropped as he forgot his reason that Raph fell in the first place. “I came up with a new game for us to play! Where’s Donnie?”
The genius turtle in question was in his sancturary, his lab working on a blueprint for S.H.E.L.L.D.O.N.’s newest upgrade, he felt rather than heard the fall Raph made. With his usual dramatic sigh he lifted his goggles to his head, mumbling something about the dumb-dumbs falling near the Wi-Fi router again. Pushing the door to his room open he stepped out to survey the scene. His eyes widened seeing his Mouse holding Leo’s hand. Leaping off the level that housed his room and hovering down to land on the other side of his girlfriend, he laces his fingers through hers. “What happened here?” His smile grew and softened as she turned to look up at him. “Oh the usual, Mikey screamed and Raph fell.”
“Hey! I screamed for a good reason. And now that everyone is here I can explain the game!” The orange turtle bounced on his toes and clapped his hands to gain everyone’s attention. “Okay, so the game is called Snoots. You guys know the staring game, its like that. But you have to stay nose to nose. First one to back away loses. Its easy! Who wants to go first?” Not seeing that his eager energy is shared and that his smile isn’t mimicked on his friend and brother’s faces, he raised his arms. “What’s wrong, don’t you guys wanna play?”
Donnie’s brow raised high on his head, “I’m not sure we understand the rules Angelo. We’re just supposed to sit and stare at each other? While touching noses?”
“Yeah, our snoots! What’s not to understand, i thought you were a genius~” Leo teased as he backed up to wink to the cybernetic turtles as he leaned against his baby brother. “Leo…” Raph gave a warning growl as he stood. “ Whaaaat? I’m just messin.” Bright green shoulders rising and falling before he nudged Mikey. “How’s the game played again Mike.”
“It’s basically the updated version of the staring game. But you can blink, you put your noses together and try not to back off right away. You can make faces to try to get the other to laugh or blush. First one to pull away loses.” His eagerness returned as he explained the rules again. Another clap of his hands and the box turtle was bounding around the group, ready to start the game. “Sounds like fun big man, let’s do it!” Raph cheered and followed his brothers to the center of the ramps, helping move things out of the way so they could all sit in a circle.
Mouse never let go of Donnie’s hand and sat on his left side, she smiled as Mikey sat across from her on Don’s other side and Raph next to the smaller turtle. Leo dropped onto her other side with his casual smirk painted across his face. “So who goes first hermanos y hermanas? Since you had the idea you wanna go first Mikey?”
“Yeah, I’ll go! And I choose…….Raph!” Mikey turned in his spot to face his biggest brother, wiggling slightly as waited for Raph to do the same. Within seconds the pair were nose to nose. Both were smiling as Raph asked “You said we could make faces and stuff right? Can we use our hands too?” An orange brow ridge raised as Mikey thought about the question with out trying to move. “I think that’d be okay, why-?” the question was cut off as large green fingers danced up the bare side between plastron and shell, causing the box turtle to squeal and scoot away. The red banded winner pumped his fist into the air and hollered out his victory. “Boom, won that game!”
Mouse giggled at the exchange of the two brother as she rested her weight on Donnie’s shoulder. The softshell turned slightly to kiss the top of her head, giving her hand another squeeze as he chuckled. “Very sneaky Raph, didn’t think you had that in you.” “It was nothin really, ninja skill of misdirection.” He boasted as he waved his hand in front of his face.
The next couple rounds of the game went pretty smooth, Raph tried the same trick on Leo to no such luck. The slider saw the move coming from a mile away and countered with his own strategy of scratching Raph under his chin. The effect was immediate as the large turtle fell with a content purr and a dopey smile. It took a few second before he roused himself from the stupor while everyone joked about how he was nothing but a big cat.
With Mikey and Donni’s turn it seemed like Don would be the winner. Even the soft shell himself was coming up with different ideas of how to win the easiest game his brother had come up with. What he didn’t notice was as he was thinking of different scenarios he was slowly backing away getting lost in his thoughts. Mikey cheered as Don slipped backwards. “Game over Dee, you lose!” The cheering brought him back looking as surprised as when a badly thought out Leo or Raph plan went. “ wh-wait how…” A blush darkened the genius’ nose and cheeks as he looked around him. “That shouldn’t be possible, I had so many plans for…ahh forget it.” He sat back down with a small harrumph and crossed his arms, looking for all the world as if a child put in timeout.
Mouse rubbed his shoulder and leaned forward to give him a soft smile that he soon returned. “Its okay Don, not like it’s the Lair Games. Im sure you’ll have better luck next round.” She offered quietly. “Speaking of next rounds…” Leo stood and turned bend and fully face Mouse, his smirk growing into full smile as he brought out his hand “For my round, I’ll need you to stand milady.”
Both Mouse and Donnie looked up at the blue turtle confused before she took his hand and stood. “Okay….why?” The room shifted to the point that the ceiling was on its side and the brothers were sideways? She felt a hand at her back, and when she looked up her view was filled with nothing but Leonardo.
“Alright, now our round starts.” He whispered as he pressed his nose to hers. Mouse squeaked when she realized the position he had put them in. A basic dip like at the end of a slow dance had their hands together and their faces just as close. Mouse heard a low growl behind her and could see in here mind the glare that would be growing on Donnie’s face. She squeaked as Leo shifted a bit, their lips just ever so slightly brushing against each other had her entire face flush bright red.
“You’re turning pretty red there Mousey, do you need some space? You can always back up?” Mouse wanted to shake her head, but she knew the movement would bring their lips even closer together and as Leo just showed, talking would do the same. She grunted a no as she felt her blush burn hotter. “Oh so you want to be this close to me?~” Leo hummed and his smirk if possible grew wider.
The growling grew in volume, Leo seemed to be talking loud enough for everyone to hear and Donnie was not having it. “Okay times up Leo wins!”
Laughing as Mouse was pulled away, Leo straightened up and dropped back into his spot, shaking his head as he shrugged. “It’s just a game Don, relax.” He rocked back, resting his hands on the ground behind him as he watched his brother hold Mouse. “You know I wouldn’t do anything.”
“Do I Nardo? Do I?” Accusing stares from Donnie had Leo laughing harder. Mouse could only watch with her cheek pressed against Donnie’s plastron at the light burning in the eyes behind the purple mask. “Don? He wouldn’t, you know that.” The voice seemed to ease his mind as the gaze looking up at him warmed his body from the inside out. She always seemed to have that effect on him. “I was….you are correct turtle dove. Forgive me.”
With a sigh he regretfully released her from his arms, already missing the warmth he had when he held her. “I believe it is our turn, shall we begin?”
Mouse felt herself nod more than heard herself agree as once again she was helped to stand. “Ready when you are…” At the end of her sentence she was lifted into the air. Tightening her grip on Don’s shoulders she looked up at him in surprise. He had activated his tech shell to have them hover above the group. Mouse turned her head to see how high they had gone and with a squeak regretted looking, They weren’t too high up but her feet could brush Raph’s head whie standing.
She quickly turned to look back at Donnie and gasped at his gaze. From this close up Donnie could see the light purple in her eyes and each individual spot across her nose. Everything he loved about her was right there in his arms and it gave him the warmest smile as he tapped his nose to hers. “Let the games begin.”
