Chapter Text

Entry 1: Wooloo

Galar dex #034

Encounter Location: Postwick (not a wild encounter)

Wooloo is a delightfully soft, round, normal-type pokémon. 

“‘Delightfully soft’ doesn’t sound very unbiased…”

“Shush up, Hop. ‘S not your dex, is it?”

Wooloo stands just below hip-height, and is much lighter than it looks! It weighs only about as much as a very lightly packed bag; most of its body is its wool, and its wool is very light. Wooloo is very easy to pick up and squeeze, as it so happens— an activity Wooloo is quite amenable to!

Both in and out of battle, Wooloo seems to favor any movement that allows it to peacefully roll about. Its fur provides ample protection from physical attacks, but all that fluff does make it more susceptible to fire-type moves. 

“Setting Wooloo on fire wasn’t very sporting of you and that Scorbunny, Glo.” Wooloo let out an indignant bleat, and Hop gave it a kind pat to its head. 

“Hmph,” Gloria responded. Wasn’t her fault Scorbunny’s ember was already so powerful. 

Wooloo makes a fine friend, though its fur requires a higher amount of upkeep than some beginner trainers may find feasible. Still, this pokémon’s gentle demeanor and robust defense ensures it will be an asset to any trainer in battle. 

“Are you done, yet?” Hop asks impatiently. 

Gloria hums, and grins brightly. “On to Grookey!”

A/N: Hi everyone! So, this is just kind of an idea I've had pin-balling around in my head for a while, and I've written a bunch of chapters so far and figured I'd just start posting them. I've always like the headcanon that pokedex entries are so wild because it's just a bunch of 10 year olds writing whatever the heck they want. So, this story will be Gloria writing her own pokedex entries of all the pokemon in Galar. And there will be Bederia. And tags will be updated as more characters show up.

Entry 2: Grookey

Galar dex #001

Encounter Location: Postwick (not a wild encounter)

Grookey is a very cute grass-type pokémon with an upbeat personality.

“‘Very cute’ doesn’t sound very unbiased…”

“Oh come off it Hop!”

When it’s not in battle, Grookey can frequently be seen banging its little stick against every available surface. When it finds an object that it thinks sounds nice when banged, it becomes very covetous of that object, much to the dismay of Rotom…

“Er, yeah, sorry about that, mate. Rotom.”

Gloria felt the Rotom phone in her pocket vibrate a bit. She couldn’t tell if it was in indignation or acceptance of the apology. 

“Stop reading over my shoulder,” she muttered, and hunched a bit more over the dex. 

Grookey stands at roughly knee-height, and weighs about half a loaded backpack. When not in use, it keeps its little stick safely tucked in the fur at the top of its head. Grookey is a bright green, with soft brown ears and a very wiggly tail. 

Gloria took a moment, reading over the dex entries for Wooloo and Grookey until she felt satisfied with them. All in all, she didn’t think they were that bad for her very first entries!  

“Are we done yet?” Hop asked, impatiently tossing and catching Grookey’s pokéball. 

“Just finished,” Gloria agreed, giving Grookey a pat. “We’ll need to reconvene once they evolve, but they should be very pleased to be the first entries into my dex.” 

“I’m off then!” Hop barely wasted the time recalling Grookey before he’d shot off down the road, determined to beat Gloria to Professor Magnolia’s house. 

Gloria just smiled, and called out her own starter. At least she could document Scorbunny in peace.

Entry 3: Scorbunny

Galar dex #004

Encounter Location: Postwick (not a wild encounter)

Scorbunny is a very energetic fire-type pokémon. When standing still, ears pointed, it stands at about the same height as Grookey (Galar dex #001), and is just a tad bit lighter— though standing still is rare for this pokémon. It can more often be found bouncing about on its strong legs, kicking up sparks and little curling bits of flame as it goes.

Scorbunny enjoys snacking on twigs, though this researcher recommends limiting the amount of snacks given to this pokémon. Although it burns a lot of energy with its constant movement, a balanced diet of pokeblocks is necessary for maintaining the health of this pokémon. Scorbunny is very susceptible to an upset tummy when consuming an excess amount of snacks, and will complain terribly if its belly is not rubbed to soothe it. 

In battle, Scorbunny is very perceptive, and light on its feet. It will respond quickly to it’s trainer’s commands, both verbal and nonverbal. It seems to favor an act-first think-later battle style, which seems to mesh well with this researcher’s inclinations. 

Scorbunny likes to jump around a bit before battle, and when it does so the pads on its feet and nose warm up considerably. Be careful— this heat is enough to scorch the grass, and would probably be enough to burn a careless trainer (not speaking from experience, of course…). 

At night, Scorbunny prefers to rest outside its pokéball. It is the opinion of this researcher that this does not have to do with an aversion to pokéballs; at all other times, Scorbunny has shown no other antagonism towards them. On the contrary, it seems that Scorbunny simply enjoys snuggles. This researcher is certainly not complaining.

Entry 4: Blipbug

Galar dex #010

Encounter Location: Route 1

Blipbug is an interesting-looking bug-type pokémon. It has rather large eyes, which peer curiously out at the world around it. Not particularly inclined towards solitude, Blipbug seems to travel in small groups. These Blipbug are very attuned to their surroundings, and even the slightest movement will alert them to nearby researchers. 

They don’t seem concerned about lurking researchers, however. They move about, being sure to keep an eye in my direction, but they don’t scurry away, or outright attack me. 

Blipbug seems roughly the same height as Scorbunny, and weight information cannot be determined currently. 

There was a flash at Gloria’s side, and Scorbunny came charging from its pokéball. It wasted no time in chasing off the nearby Blipbug, and came panting back to Gloria’s side when they were no longer in sight. 

Gloria frowned at it. 

“Scor...?” It cooed, looking up at its trainer with a question in its eyes. 

Gloria groaned in annoyance, but lifted her hand to scratch between Scorbunny’s ears nonetheless. 

“You’re a right nuisance, you are. How am I supposed to document Blipbug behavior if you chase them off all the time?” 

Scorbunny just stared up at her, bounding lightly on its feet. 

Gloria snickered. “Oh, fine. Let’s find something to battle, if this is how you’re going to be.”

Scorbunny cheered.

Entry 5: Sobble

Galar dex #007

Encounter Location: Route 2 (not a wild encounter)

Sobble is a very timid water-type pokémon, prone to distressed outbursts and the impulse to hide. It stands at the same height as the previous entries, Grookey (Galar dex #001) and Scorbunny (Galar dex #004), and it is the lightest of the trio.

“Exact specifications would be useful, dear.” Magnolia’s voice is soft and thoughtful as she stands over Gloria’s shoulder, watching her write. 

“Erm,” Gloria mumbles. “I don’t really have anything to measure with, ma’am.” 

The Sobble sitting before them sniffles anxiously, and Gloria is quick to reassure it. 

“No, no!” She says, falling to her knees in front of the pokémon and holding up a placating hand. “It’s all right, really! You don’t have to sit and be measured if you don’t want to, I promise!” 

But Gloria feels the sting of tears in her eyes, and Sobble promptly turns invisible with the water from its own tears. Gloria looks back at Leon imploringly. 

Leon, for his part, seemed to be balancing on a knife’s edge between laughter and tears. He and Professor Magnolia shared a Significant Look, and Leon recalled Sobble back into its pokéball with a chuckle.

“I think it may take a bit longer for that Sobble to feel comfortable enough for a check-up,” Professor Magnolia said with a smile in her eyes. 

Gloria sighed. It sure seemed that way.

A/N: Just as a side note, I have to mention that I love that Sobble evolves into Inteleon, a spy, and it's Galar dex number is 007.

Entry 6: Rookidee

Galar dex #021

Encounter Location: Route 2

Don’t let the diminutive size of Rookidee fool you, this pokémon is filled with hatred and equipped with a razor-sharp beak and wicked talons, and it will not hesitate to attack anything in its sight.

You may think you’re being kind, sharing some berries with it when it stumbles across your path. You may think it’s okay to edge a little closer, give it a little pat on the top of its cute little head— but beware. This pokémon has stared down death itself, and didn’t even blink first. It will not hesitate to claw your poor hand to shreds, and fly off in a huff.

At this point, this researcher does not have additional information to share. But this researcher cautions any curious bird keepers; if you see a lone Rookidee, you probably can’t handle it, and you need to back. away. slowly.
