Kara went missing 3 days ago, after a sleeper cell of Cadmus was activated. They managed to attack the blonde superhero after she returned home after an exhausting day of trying to apprehend an alien on the run.
When Kara didn't show up at the DEO the next morning and didn't answer any of their calls they got worried. Once they discovered her apartment being in a complete mess, Lena started trying to locate her Kryptonian heat signature but wasn't able to find her.
After working day and night without any sleep the brunette finally found a lead which brought them deep into the desert.
The underground facility was buried deep into the sand which made it tricky to locate it.
The team consisted of J'onn, Alex and Lena, the former insisting on joining the rescue mission. Alex eventually agreed, after realizing there was no chance to change her mind. They made their way there and once they arrived J'onn was already fighting against a few soldiers on watch.
Alex and Lena made their way inside and went through every room of the compound. Alex had to fight a few soldiers on their way and tried to get information about Kara out of them but none of them actually knew anything.
The last room they walked in was a lab. In the middle was a tank filled with green shimmering water, and in said tank floating, was Supergirl herself. She was unconscious, and her veins were glowing bright green. Kryptonite.
There were no scientists or soldiers around, they probably left in a hurry with the arrival of the rescue team.
While Alex ran over to the tank and started to try breaking the glass, Lena went over to the computer which had to regulate the tank. With just a few clicks she managed to drain the tank of its poisonous liquid.
In the meantime Alex managed to break the glass and got Kara out and laid her down on the floor.
“Kara! Wake up!” Alex plead scared. Lena knelt down next to them checking Kara's pulse which was beating slow and steady.
After a few seconds Kara woke up, sitting up and spitting water. Her skin slowly returned to her natural color without any green. But she was still weak.
“Oh Kara” Alex and Lena said relieved hugging her.
The hug between Kara and Lena lasting way longer than the one between the Danvers sisters. Alex stood up knowingly, leaving them some privacy. She asked J'onn for a status update and finding out that the building was cleared, and they were ready to leave.
“Can you stand?” Lena asked Kara carefully. Supergirl nodded and slowly got up with Lena supporting her because she was still not strong enough to stand or walk on her own.
The three slowly walked out, Alex still keeping out an eye for potential attackers.
The second they stepped into the bright sunlight of the desert, Kara immediately reacted to the yellow sunlight and started healing, but she still wasn't strong enough to fly yet, so they all got into Alex car. Alex behind the wheel and Kara and Lena in the back. The redhead saw how Lena sat right next to Kara, holding her hand with a worried face.
“Are you sure you're okay? I mean you've been exposed to Kryptonite for a rather long time, probably.”, the CEO asked.
“Yes, I'll be fine. I just need to rest for a while. Thank you.”, Kara answered, looking deep into Lena's green eyes.
Lena just nodded, a small smile forming on her lips.
“Okay. You're safe here. Safe with me.”
Alex drove and looked through the rearview mirror from time to time to check on the two women.
Shortly before they got to the outskirts of National City she saw how Kara's head laid on Lena's shoulder while the raven-haired women's head rested on Kara's head. Both of them in deep sleep after the eventful day.
Alex just smirked and whispered “Best friends, huh. Sure, Jan. That's just gay.”
In the same moment Kara moved her head, so her face was buried in the nape of Lena's neck and a smile formed on her face.
