Work Text:

They were ready early. That never happened to them. There was always something that led them to end up rushing out of the door and barely getting anywhere on time, including work. But today was different. When TK came back downstairs, ready to go, Carlos was sitting on the couch waiting for him.

“Are we both ready?” TK asked.

“Looks like it. I’m impressed, we still have 20 minutes before we need to leave.”

“A record for us. I can’t wait to tell everyone, they’ll be so proud of us.”

“In the meantime, want to come sit with me and watch a bit of TV?”

TK was happy to put himself in his boyfriends’ arms. He felt at home there. Safe and comfortable. Maybe a little too comfortable. He felt himself dozing off and he tried to fight it off for a minute, but before he knew it, he was waking up to a dark living room.

He yawned and took a second to get himself situated, trying to remember what happened. When he did, and finally checked his phone to see the time, he sat up quickly and turned toward Carlos. His boyfriend looked very peaceful there asleep on the couch, drooling just a little in his hair. It pained TK to have to wake him.

“Carlos! Carlos, wake up, we’re late for dinner,” TK said as he shook him a little.

“Uh?” Carlos blinked a few times and looked around. When he noticed the sun had set, and saw all the missed calls on his phone, he was suddenly just as wide awake as TK. “Oh, no! Do you think Grace will be more mad or worried?”

“I think she’ll understand, if we call and apologise right away.”

Before they could even start to do anything, there was a knock on the door. A quick, unnerved knock, followed by Judd’s voice erupting through.

“Carlos, TK, are you okay? The camaro’s here, but you didn’t show up to dinner. What’s going on, boys?”

Carlos sprang up and opened up the door to find Judd and Grace standing on the other side, eyebrows creased and eyes wide. TK was behind him in seconds and their relief was evident from the way their shoulders relaxed and how they released a breath they’d been holding.

“We’re so so sorry, we didn’t mean to worry you. We got ready early and sat down for just a minute,” Carlos explained, hoping his tone showed how genuine his apology was. TK knew his boyfriend felt awful about the whole thing. “We fell asleep.”

“You two falling asleep I can get behind, you both look exhausted. But ready early? That one’s a little harder.”

“Come on, Judd, they feel bad enough as it is. They’re probably starving too.”

Grace walked in without waiting for an invitation. TK noticed food containers in her arms; he’d been too focused on the rest of the situation to pay much attention before. She headed straight to the kitchen where she not only deposited the food on the counter, but started getting plates out to serve them.

“No, Grace, you don’t need to feed us,” Carlos protested, “we stood you up, you shouldn’t be going through all this trouble.”

“That ain’t for you guys. We were set for a nice dinner with a couple of friends, and we refuse to be let down. So you two are gonna sit and eat and have a good time with us, alright?”

“Whatever you say, Judd,” TK shook his head, amused, sneaked a quick kiss on Carlos’ cheek and did exactly as he’d been told.

Carlos was smiling from ear to ear as he walked around TK, depositing a quick kiss on top of his head before settling down on his own chair. They enjoyed a nice dinner together despite how the evening had started.

TK always loved the time he got to spend not only with his boyfriend, but also with Judd, who felt like a brother to him, and Grace, who was exactly everything anyone needed in their life. She was a force of nature, constantly there to bring them back to reality and off their bullshit. They could never thank her enough for all she did for them.

When the evening had to end, sadly it had gotten late, Carlos promised Judd and Grace that they'd make it up to them for their accidental nap that had forced them to come all this way. No matter how much Judd insisted it was unnecessary, it wouldn't stop Carlos from doing it anyway. It was one of the many things TK loved about him, and he would be right by his side, helping in any way he could.
