Work Text:
“Good night Cassidy!”
“Good night Mom!” I yell down the hall. But I’m not ready for bed yet. Instead I’m sitting at my window, checking the clock every few moments. 9:55. Not yet. I imagine the announcement playing in my head telling everyone to get inside. I get up to turn off the lights and open my window shades to check the street. Sometimes you could catch one of the magical girls before they transformed, but today no one is out there. No surprise there, none of the magical girls have routes that start near my house.
9:56. my eyes were starting to get a bit tired but the excitement in my chest kept me awake.
9:57. I can feel myself starting to drift and get up to splash a bit of water on my face. I wish my room was closer to the bathroom, I can’t miss this!
9:59. I wish my mom would let me drink coffee or something. She says it would keep me up but I can’t go to sleep until
10:00! I push up against the glass, mouthing the words to the announcement. Before me, the dreary street transforms, a sheen of green shifting over it and covering it with fractal patterns in blues and purples. Smiling, I lean back and fall into my bed, the colors of the barrier scattering shadows on my ceiling. It was worth it, to see the barrier shift
Feeling the heaviness of the day, and I sigh and crawl under the covers. Closing my eyes, I make my wish for the millionth time. Maybe tonight, I’ll get to be like HP, and then I’ll get to see the street change down there.
