Work Text:
Vedika walked into the break room and immediately turned towards the coffee machine. She quickly opened the package for a tea bag and put it into a cup. Looking down at the size, she shrugged and grabbed a second tea and cup. She welcomed the heat in her hand as she filled each with water. Turning to find a seat, she spied a familiar tuft of silver hair at one of the far tables. Sure enough, it was Zoe from the training club, her head in her arms, wearing the same coat Vedika was wearing.
She sat down, placing one cup on the table to tap Zoe’s shoulder. The girl shot up in surprise. “Oh, Vedika! Um, hi.”
Vedika didn’t have to read minds to see her nerves. “You doing okay?”
Zoe nodded. “Just tired. Working here is a lot more work than my patrols normally are.” She yawned, and Vedika fought the urge to do the same.
Sipping some tea, Vedika smiled. “I guess I never considered. What are you doing here?”
Zoe leaned back. “Well, my cousins and uncle and aunt came here after their house got breached, and the people here helped out, so I wanted to help out too. But it’s really hard to do all this. What about you?”
“Well, my powers don’t really let me help out there, so I wanted to do what I could here.”
“You do this every night?”
Vedika nodded. Zoe beamed at her. “Wow, Vedika, that’s so cool. I don’t think I could do this every night…” She put her head in her arms again.
Vedika grabbed her jacket and draped it over Zoe. “Well don’t sleep too long, we got people to help!” Zoe turned to spot the tea Vedika left her and smiled.
